Meeting and briefing will occur at the Public beach on Wray street in Batemans Bay. The magnificent Clyde River Estuary system is home to some of the most successful oyster farmers on the South Coast of NSW, on this tour you will paddle and taste the romance of the finest oysters from the purest Australian waters.

Following your kayak briefing and equipment issue you will take a short paddle to wray street oyster shed where you will learn about the local cultivation techniques, the science behind farming, oyster varieties and life as an oyster farmer from Jade, Greg and Enola from the Oyster Shed on Wray Street. Be treated, eating the freshest oysters you can, taken from the river that morning.

Following the tasting and talk, kayak through working oyster farms, between live racks brimming with product, past packing sheds all within easy floating distance of your starting location at the Wray Street Oyster Shed, all part of the Batemans Marine Park and Clyde River National Park.

To ensure you are adequately prepared for your adventure please read this info and pass it on to your group. We will confirm weather and departure details 24 hours prior by phone or text.

Drinking water 
Hat 
Sunscreen 
Sunglasses 
Arrive in clothes you don’t mind getting wet, for example: Active wear / outdoor wear, swimmers, shorts, light thermal top or rash top
A change of clothes and a towel for after the tour (to be left in your vehicle)
Footwear is optional but a great idea in cooler months (if you do wear shoes make sure you don’t mind getting them wet) 

We will provide you with:
Your life jacket (PFD)
Your paddle and sturdy sit-on-top kayak
A paddle lesson
Snacks/morning tea along the way
A wind/waterproof jacket if the weather is cool

Keep in mind you will likely get wet on this tour. It is advised you leave your phone and other valuables behind to avoid getting them damaged. Our guides will look after your car keys for the duration of the tour. 

Our guides will be taking photos of your experience for you to keep, however if you would like to bring your phone or camera in order to take your own photos, there is an opportunity to purchase a high quality waterproof phone case or dry bag following your briefing. We also have hats, buffs, gloves and sunglass savers available for purchase at the meeting point. 

The Meeting Point

You will be met by a Region X Trip leader at the Public Beach on Wray Street, this is close to the Batemans Bay Bridge on the North Shore. Please arrive in time for your tour briefing. Look out for our trailer and guides waiting for you. The location is also provided on the map below. Please note there are no bathroom or change room facilities available at the meeting point. Please arrive ready for your adventure 10 minutes prior to the start time.

Your adventure will commence with a briefing by your tour leader followed by equipment issue, a kayak lesson and your floating experience will follow. The tour includes an informative talk from the farmers, as well as oyster tasting, oyster shucking demonstrations, and visit to the working farms.
