Explore the
tranquility and beauty of the Murray River on a self-guided Paddle ’n’ Picnic
tour. Meander down the Murray River at your own pace, which features long
pools, fast-moving channels and a couple of small rapids (levels dependent) along
it’s forest-lined riverbanks. No need to worry about any logistics as
Dwellingup Adventures do all the organising for you. Meet at the Tours Desk,
located in the Dwellingup Trails and Visitors Centre with the lovely Waypoints
Café. From here you will get fitted out with your safety equipment and head to
the start of the canoe experience, following the guide in your own vehicle.
Leave your vehicle at the finish point and let Dwellingup Adventures transport
you the 6kms upstream to the start (river levels dependent, see below notes), pointing
out the river features along the way. Take your time paddling downstream
stopping along the way for a picnic (supplied), flora and fauna spotting and a
relaxing swim (depending on season) before paddling to the finish point at
Dwaarlindjirraap, where you rendezvous with Dwellingup Adventures and your car.

River conditions
The Murray River is reliant on natural rainfall patterns.
Dwellingup Adventures will advise you if the water levels are unsuitable. We
have a safety cut off point for high water. Typically, from November to April
the river gets very low in sections that requires us to modify the tour route.
While the river is essentially a series of long deep pools there are shallow
sections with exposed logs that require you to pull the canoe over or through in lower levels.
Safety
The section from Island Pool to Dwaarlindjirraap is generally
suitable for novices and beginners. Two roads run parallel to the river, River
Road on river right (looking downstream) and Murray Valley Road, river left
(looking downstream). River Road will lead you back to your vehicle should you
need to walk out. At the finish point you will see Baden Powell Water Spout.
This is a severe drop that forms a grade 4 rapid in high water and rocky
exposed and dangerous formations in low water. The area is clearly marked and
easily avoided.
DO NOT PROCEED
OVER or DOWNSTREAM OF BADEN POWELL WATER SPOUT.
If you are not at Dwaarlindjirraap at the designated pick-up
time Dwellingup Adventures staff will travel along River Road to check your
location. If you require an emergency phone, there are two land lines in the
park. Entry Ranger Station: if occupied rangers have a phone. Nanga Bush Camp:
a phone box close to the manager’s residence is available for emergency and
local calls only at no cost. Both locations are on your map. Emergency services
will typically try to get to you. If you can please secure all gear and canoes
up from the river and note location. Dwellingup Adventures may be able to
assist emergency staff, call 95381127.

There is also a top range of accessories that if I didn't have 800 km to ride I'd have been itching to purchase.
5 stars for friendly helpfulness and 5 stars for whats on offer
The equipment is excellent and they have everything you need. There is even a delicious cafe on site for a coffee and some food.
So many fun mountain bike trials for all experience levels. I will be back without a doubt. 10/10
False advertising and poor customer service.
My dad went to Dwellingup to explore the murray river and got a kayak from these guys. He was told where to launch and that there would be 2km of river before he would need to turn around or hit any barriers.
He launched the kayak as advised and got a mere 300m before encountering not one but multiple rock barriers due to extreme low water.
When he returned the kayak and complained about the wrong information (he would not have spent 50$ on 10 minutes kayaking!)
he was told it was "not a good season for kayaking"
No apology, no compensation, no prior warning.
Absolutely appalling. Lack of knowledge? Definitely Lack of care and piss poor customer service. False advertising to make a quick buck. Even worse when I sent an email to complain and make management aware of what happened (as I liked to believe this was a sincere mistake and not their business policy), no reply whatsoever.
Very appalling.
FAST WATER RAFTS
Suited to longer distance paddles and rapids.
If we had known previous to our arrival of the paddling limitations we wouldn't have required the 2-day hire as it only takes a few hours in winter to do the whole 'allowed zone'.
I recommend putting the "allowed zone" map you provide at pickup on your website somewhere so others aren't caught out by this.
FYI for anyone planning to hire these for rapids.
Other than that, the team were friendly and even supplied a raft foot pump because we hired for 2 days. Good thing as well, because the raft had multiple pinhole leaks. These didn't affect our paddling on day 1. The raft had deflated a little over night but the pump sorted it out.
The store is located next to a bike wash station and showers/laundry as well as a lovely cafe. A perfect place to stop if you’re passing through.
Impeccable service. Highly recommend all services, food and coffee ❤️
We all had a fantastic time. Highly recommend as a school holiday or weekend activity for the whole family! Can't wait to go back once the weather cools down and hit the bike trails!
1st time was on the hiring of a dual suspension mountain bike. We just started the uphill at Dwellingup mountain bike tracks to find no air in the middle shock, therefore had to ride back down and try and find someone with a shock pump. Could of been very dangerous if the bike had of bottomed out going over any jumps.
Dwellingup adventures response was “well you should of riden it around the car park first before you took it mountain biking
2nd experience was relating to their pack and paddle where we were left stranded at island pool waiting to be dropped of some kayaks which never appeared. We had confirmed on the Thursday that we were going ahead with this and did not need to come in before hand and would meet them on the Sunday at island pool. We did the self guided hike on the Saturday as planned and were waiting on the sunday for 2 hours at island pool with no one showing up. In the end we had to hike the 16km back.
We were very disappointed with the service afterwards with no consideration for any sort of refund when they didn’t provide any services whatsoever after we spent $170, we basically just did an overnight hike on the Bib track
Peter quietly talked me through some fix or hire options - all good.
I also got offered a lift to dwellingup a little later in the day.
That all worked out and I have a serviceable fix of my own bike to head south with.
Phenomenal service.
Highly recommended.
They provide an amazing DIY Service Area to work on your bike inside their shop with tools, degreaser, WD40 and a small compressor to inflate or check your tyres. And they sell most things you need for MTB and trail rides.
They’re a really helpful bunch and they also run the amazing Wayfarers Cafe next door. I spent quite a bit of time in their over coffee and some good toasted sandwiches while waiting for my new rack to arrive.
Thanks Alicia, and thanks team, you’ve made this Queenslander very grateful for the warm West Aussie hospitality!
Wonderful accommodations in a lovely two story house right in the heart of Dwellingup. Thank you I will be back!
Having followed Peter our guide to the Lane pool reserve in our car we then parked up & traveled on his bus the 6 km up stream where the kayak adventure begins.
You get 4hrs to paddle the 6km back down stream where he will then meet you to take the kayaks & you return in your car.
The river was fairly low for us as we were in December .
But there are still a fair few obstacles along the way & points where you need to lift the kayaks out and carry them, but nothing too challenging if you are averagely fit.
Wear enclosed footwear, put your phone/car keys in something waterproof & don’t expect not to get wet!!!
But great fun , I would definitely recommend this little adventure
