Perth Canyon Blue Whale Research Safari

Operated By:
ONLY BLUE WHALE TOUR IN AUSTRALIA ~ THE OPPORTUNITY TO JOIN OUR RESEARCH TEAM & WITNESS THE LARGEST MAMMAL TO EVER LIVE FEEDING IN THE PERTH CANYON.
Please Note: This is a research tour it is not guaranteed, we have a 95% sighting rate but should your tour fail to sight Blue Whales you have the option of a 50% discount on the next available Blue Whale Tour.
The Perth Canyon is a marine hotspot 30 nautical miles off the coast of Perth, Western Australia where the elusive Blue Whales go to feed each year on krill that gather in the Perth Canyon which is larger than the Grand Canyon…just under water! Thought to be the original Swan River mouth, the area is abundant with sea life that gathers for the feeding feast and is unrivalled as the epicentre for biodiversity on the Western Australian coastline.
‘Biomass bonanza which stands unrivalled on the Western Australian coastline as the marine production epicentre’. – Professor Pattiarachi University of Western Australia.
The Blue Whales are endangered and current numbers are estimated at only 12-20,000 WORLD WIDE, and less than 2,000 in Australia, which makes sightings extraordinarily important for research, coupled with the thrill of sighting a Dinosaur of the Deep, this experience will be a generational talking point and memory for a lifetime. You now have the opportunity to join our team as we research, photograph and collect data that will hopefully develop a clearer identity of this unique eco wilderness, it’s magnificent biodiversity and it’s closely held secrets.
This expedition is an all day experience as we discover and research the the elusive Blue Whales and everything that this eco marine frontier has to reveal including other cetacean and birdlife.
The Perth waters are very much an unknown as being the most isolated coastline in the world we are still discovering the many different species & migratory birdlife in this pristine environment.
The eco habitat from the nutrient rich up welling Leeuwin Undercurrent enables Perth Canyon to create a feeding biomass bonanza for the eco system from the smallest to the largest of ocean wonders and you can join the team as we locate and track the world’s largest mammal.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to witness something that very few humans have seen or discovered.
Included in the expedition is a delicious morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea with all drinks along with our legendary VIP service.

It felt magical watching these gentle giants in their natural habitat, diving gracefully and then surfacing with such power and elegance. The whole trip was filled with excitement, joy, and a sense of awe that words can hardly describe.
If you’re visiting Perth, this is an absolute must-do. It’s not just a tour, it’s a memory that will stay with you forever.
Highly recommend this company
Cheers Terri
A selection of whale tours, including humpbacks, orcas and blue whales, friendly service from the staff who make you feel at home and part of their "pod", and a beautiful, comfortable ride upon their two storey yacht!
100/10 ⭐️
Be very aware of seasickness, I have never been seasick myself but I felt for those that were seasick throughout the trip. The staff are great but there is only so much they can do.
Highly recommend this trip.
There were so many viewing areas on the boat, the food was great and freely available the whole trip , and the staff were unfailingly friendly and considerate.
This is a world class, quite unique wildlife watching experience.
Above all, it is curated by a local family who have extensive experience with, and great respect and affection for these amazing wild marine mammals. We felt so privileged to spend time with the orcas of Bremer Bay, thanks to the Whale Watch WA family for making it possible in such a wonderful way.
Thank you to the skipper & his family for a wonderful trip that is highly recommended.
Ours was postponed due to bad weather forecast and Whale Watch contacted me via email, sent me SMS days without my reply. We were really lucky to join one 2 days later which was also our last day in Perth! What a spectacular end of our Perth trip from Singapore!
The boat is comfy, the crew is friendly and caring always look out for anyone who feels sick. We took seasick pills incl our children, the sea breeze at outdoor seating helps. My 6yo girl felt sick though and slept through thereafter to mk herself better. She'd have to watch those photos videos later on.
Interior sofa seating helps calm out nerves.
When we finally located the whales, they shared knowledgeable info about humpback whales. Really lucky the whales came real close to us.
Captain also drove near to the whales and stayed on to allow us to watch more despite time clicking close to 2hour mark.
We didn't know it comes with professional photos shared to us for free downloads post tour!
Saw pods of little humpback whales
Commentary was meaningful and whales were respected with good distance throughout the journey.
Amazing tour with friendly and knowledgeable crew. Being family run it has an intimate feel and didn’t feel like we were intruding or chasing the whales. A bucket list item ticked off and couldn’t fault a single thing. One piece of advice - even if you don’t get sea sick take anti sickness night before & morning off. Quite a few people’s days ruined by sea sickness. If you are well prepared a day out with these guys will be a day to remember! Thanks guys!
The team on board were great too! Checking in to ensure everyone caught sight of the whales and ensure those who were prone to seasickness were ok ???? nausea bags are available. Watching the whales from indoor was decent too as the clean window panes provided a clear view.
There are also colour pencils/markers and sea creature postcards for little ones to color and have fun.
Highly recommend this tour! :)
This was such an enormous happy day of my life. Saw beautifull whales and learned a lot.
Crew showed and told with Great passion about the whales lives and territoria.
Thank you crew for being part of my australian journey / holliday. Soon I'll be heading back to the netherlands again but I'll be back someday with my fam!!! That's a promiss ????????

Second time on whale spotting adventure and what a show!! Can't explain it in words....
I just fell I love with those big giants of nature....I thought kangaroos and koalas where amazing but please when you visit australia this is a absolute #mustdo.
Learn all about them. Be part of the POD!! Whale spotting west australia is in the top 10...top 10 best atractions in the world. It's an absolute nr1 for me. And I only saw just one small part of it 'the humpbacks' Go check their website and make sure you visit one of the tours available. Thank you crew / skipper again for this wonderfull day of pure happyness and joy
We saw numerous whales. Pods of whales. Sleeping whales. Playing whales and all up so close. The boat is so comfortable and roomy. The crew are amazing. So informative. So friendly and very knowledgeable about all things whales!
Would highly recommend this trip to anyone.
We were lucky enough to see multiple whales, almost the entire time we were out in the water.
The captain was very informative and loves talking about these amazing animals!
My friend and I went on tour on Monday, 25th October 2023 and we were fortunate enough to see this beautiful humpback calf breach and an adolescent male humpback playing with a pod of dolphins.
Thank you, Whale Watch WA, for an absolutely magical day! ????????
The team were extremely professional but friendly & knowledgeable. The right amount of people so everyone got the opportunity to have their experience.
We were so fortunate to take some amazing videos of a whale who was just as keen to see us as we were to see them. Such a majestic & magical creature ????
Both days were completely different and we were fortunate to have brilliant weather conditions.
Day 1 we were lucky to see about 200 Pilot whales and their dolphin companions on the way out to the canyon ..SPECTACULAR !!
The remainder of the day we spent following about 8 individual Orca foraging for food. Whist we didn't have that many close encounters as they were extremely focused on their search for a meal, it was wonderful to see them in their natural environment and the constant commentary provided was incredibly informative and added to the value of the experience.
Day 2 was AMAZING !!!!
Having fed the night or early morning before, the Orca were in a VERY Playful mood and entertained us for HOURS !!!
We watched as they played with one another, breaching, tail slapping, doing laps of the boat, singing, sharing food, gently playing with a large and magnificent Sunfish, before allowing it to safely swim away. It was a feast for our senses and so humbling to watch these Gentle Giants of the Ocean enjoy themselves.
There were pods of Orca visible in every direction and when they approached the boat they happily put on a show for us.
The Crew were FANTASTIC and go out of their way to ensure everyone is well looked after. There was food available throughout the day and a celebratory glass of beer or bubbles on the journey home.
The depth of knowledge and understanding of the crew about each individual Orca, and the different pods is shared with everyone during the tour. It is SO obvious how much this family and crew Respect, Admire and Love the Orcas and their jobs. T
This is a Bucket List Experience. Just Do it !!
We had our original trip cancelled due to adverse weather, But were soon accommodated on another boat for the same day. Communication was clear and prompt. On board there were plenty of crew, who all knew their role.
They had several spotters looking for whales, with in depth knowledge about them.
We found several pods of whales and got as close as they would let us.
A big bonus is that there is a professional photographer on board. He took clear photos, which you could download for FREE !!
Our 6 year old grandson loved it and so did the adults.
Can not speak too highly of the crew, they help elderly people to get the most out of the trip,
If you are considering a whale watching tour, you will not be disappointed.
The whole experience was incredible and paying extra to be in the captain’s lounge was well worth it.
We will definitely be coming back to WA to do more tours with this family.
They went above and beyond to make sure we were all comfortable and provided the most exceptional service. Would highly recommend! Thank you for an amazing tour today.
We booked a trip for January 2023, but 6 months out (in July 2022) have had a family emergency which means we will be in hospital the next year with a 3 year old and are not able to make it.
Even though the trip is 6 months away, they refused to give any refund at all.
It's rare that I leave a negative review but every other tour operator and accommodation provider was incredibly kind and understanding of our experience and this just feels like a money grab with no human consideration from management.
