Tucked away in the heart of Tasmania, the historic Dysart House in Kempton has been home to Old Kempton Distillery since 2015. Within these grand sandstone walls, we craft a range of small-batch spirits—single malt whisky, gin, and liqueurs—each one made with 100% Tasmanian ingredients and a whole lot of passion.
Your experience begins with a warm welcome and a guided stroll through the halls of Dysart House, where stories of its past come to life. You’ll learn about its colourful history and get an introduction to the traditional art of distillation. From there, we’ll take you behind the scenes into our working distillery and bond store, where rows of maturing whisky barrels line the walls—each with its own tale to tell. And if you’re lucky, you might just catch a whisper of one of the house’s legendary ghost stories…
After your tour, unwind in our elegant Cask Lounge, nestled within the old coaching inn that now serves as our cellar door. Here, you’ll be treated to a guided tasting of four handcrafted Old Kempton spirits, followed by our premium antipasto platter, showcasing some of the best produce Tasmania has to offer. To complement your meal, you can select a bottle of fine Tasmanian wine to share—because great food and great spirits deserve great company.
Before you go, take a moment to explore our Cellar Door, filled with our signature spirits, locally made produce, and keepsakes to remember your visit. Round out your afternoon with a freshly brewed coffee or tea, the perfect way to toast to an unforgettable day.
And for our designated drivers—we haven’t forgotten you! Take-home tasting packs are available so you can enjoy the full Old Kempton experience later, at your leisure.
This is more than a tour. It’s a taste of Tasmania’s spirit—both in the bottle and in the story
Thanks for booking your tour with Old Kempton Distillery—we can’t wait to share the experience with you!
Just a quick reminder to wear comfy clothing and sturdy shoes for the tour. If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call. Otherwise, we’ll see you soon!
While you’re here, don’t miss the chance to fill your own Old Kempton black steel flask with a limited-edition muscat release—available only at the distillery and only while stocks last. You’ll fill a 200ml flask, create your own personalized label, and walk away with a one-of-a-kind souvenir you can enjoy again and again.

While he was on the tour, my mother and I looked forward to having a coffee and chat in one of the lovely rooms. It was disappointing to wait 45 minutes to receive a tepid coffee in a freezing room. The experience might have been helped with a crackling real fire on a cold winter's day.

The whisky is very well made and is a quality drop. There is quite a variety. Thoroughly recommend a visit

So being his birthday again today, I took him here again.
Was NOT HAPPY with the platter this time. It was not as good as previous, and not worth the money. There was no bread served (like the last time) just some dry crackers. I asked for some bread and was presented with 5 very tiny pieces of bread with melted butter.
Meats were sliced salmon, pastrami, gerkins (none of which I eat), some roast beef, tasteless button mushrooms, grapes, 2 types of cheese, dried tomatoes, fresh baby tomatoes, slices of pickled onion.
NO serviettes were available, and to top it all off, my partners beer wasnt cold.
Won't be supporting them again.

Staff were amazing.
The food divine and the drinks superb.
Plus live music, sunshine and laughter.

Thank you to everyone at Old Kempton Distillery. A place everyone should visit.

Highly reccomend this tour. And the Whisky is first class.

The setting is alone is very impressive, the tasting and tour was first class!!

We visited the the distillery and tried few whiskey and gins.
Everyone very friendly and passionate.
Must go not far from Hobart.

Thankyou OKD

John, the guide, was very knowledgeable. There is so much history in such a small heritage building. The tour and tasting definitely worth the money. The serving of the lunch/cheese platter was very generous as well as the whiskey tasting.
A definitely must to try place and you should not leave emtpy handed. We love their Solera cask batch #5. So much flavour and complexity.
My wife, 4yo, baby and I attended on the 12/07/2023. Our tour guide was Hannah. She was absolutely amazing and again I want to thank her here again for giving us such a great experience. We felt so welcomed and accommodated through out the whole tour. She is also very knowledgeable!
It was such a good experience that we will do it again in the future. Hannah is a valuable asset for Old Kempton Distillery.

We had a beautiful cheese board each along with a sampling of the Gin ,Whisky and Apple liquor.
Well worth a visit.

The determination to maintain a high quality and the advancement that has already taken place are admirable.
The on-site restaurant is a terrific place for a lunch, and the tour is interesting and educational.

We ordered the antipasto platter for two for lunch. It was truely amazing, with both lots of variety and food.
The young lady in the tasting room was also extremely friendly and helpful.
While the historic and beautiful property is the perfect location for the distillery, it is the staff that really made this a memorable experience.

The lunch platter was exceptional!

Lovely grounds & beautifully maintained.
Men working in the distilling building were friendly & had a lot information also.
More than happy to show us the full process including the bottling & labelling which is all done by hand.
Lunch & tasting was fabulous.
Lovely fresh & tasty platters per person with the tasting paddle.
Delicious!
Very friendly guide Craig, who is a credit to the business, well spoken, helpful & knows everything we wanted to know about.
Lovely lady in the shop helpful with all our questions also.
Highly recommend a visit !
What a beautiful building & surrounds.

Every person who is a part of Old Kempton Distillery is a wealth of knowledge and is more than happy to answer questions and impart wisdom about the industry. If you are looking for some personal or professional development around distilling, or are in and around Hobart, I highly recommend a visit to this distillery that is set on heritage grounds that are an amazing sight.
Thank you to everyone at Old Kempton Distillery.

The cellar door is a lovely old building displaying all the charm of yesteryear which enhances the style and charm of their well crafted whisky and gin.
I recently completed the distilling course here and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who wants to start up a distilling business or just interested in the craft.
The course was very informative and the staff were very friendly and helpful
The course is backed up with an ongoing Q&A support
Thanks OKD for the education and inspiration
