I went solo, and Rick and the other passengers were welcoming and warm.
Yummy lunches were prepared in nature settings with vegetarian not being a problem.

Wonderful experience We had a fabulous tour with Lee Berryman back at the beginning of April. Lee knew where we would be able to see koalas, kangaroos and other wildlife - up close but respectful. Watching the sea lions on the beach was amazing and Lee was so informative - we learned a great deal about this beautiful island. He spoiled us with the coffee on the beach and with a fantastic lunch in the forest. Thank you Lee - a highlight of our 5 week trip to Australia.

We went on a one day private Island Life tour last week, and had a wonderful day out.

Shauna, our lovely guide, was always full of interesting tidbits of life on Kangaroo Island, which was great to learn about while on the drives around. We went to look for wildlife in multiple locations, and saw a whole bunch of them, including a lot of koalas, which our family loved. We also loved visiting Seal Bay and the beautiful beaches in the north.

Lunch was also really great, freshly prepared by Shauna in the midst of beautiful greenery.

Definitely an experience not to miss out on.

Exception Day tour with a Fantastic Private Guide I traveled for 5 weeks to NZ and AUS. The day I spent with Yulia, a guide with Exceptional Kangaroo Island tours, for some bird photography, was the BEST day of the 5 week trip! Yulia was adventurous and very tuned in to what I wanted to see - as much wildlife and birds as possible in one day on Kangaroo Island. She didn't disappoint. She reached out to her fellow guides and got information that helped us accomplish seeing more birds than I could have imagined. We traveled the island for the day, and she even prepared a wonderful, delicious lunch for me! What a treat to spend a day with my camera and someone like Yulia. She is so passionate about the island and the wildlife and helping her guests have a great experience. I hope to return and spend more time with her! Thank you Yulia!

Awesome private tour with expert and fun guide My husband and I had three wonderful full day private tours with Martin. He’s such a good guide who was not only knowledgeable but read us well and tailored our days to more closely align with our interests. We loved the pop up coffee and cake mid morning pit stops (good coffee!) and most exotically the picnic lunches complete with white table cloth all in the bush! So fun! Kangaroo Island was unique and one of the highlights of our month-long Aussie adventure. We will stay in touch with Martin for sure and reach out when we are able to return! Thank you!

The second day was our kangaroo Island adventure tour FRANCK was our wonderful guide and driver. We had another fantastic day of touring the island and seeing the wonderful wildlife, lunch again was enjoyed very much.

We have just enjoyed two days touring Kangaroo Island with Martin from Exceptional Kangaroo Island Tours.
Day one had a wildlife focus. We certainly saw the local wildlife, Sea Lions, Koalas, Wallabies, Roos and a multitude of bird life.
Day two took us to Flinders Chase visiting sights on the way.
Remarkable Rocks and Admiral's Arch are spectacular. The Fur Seal population at Admiral's Arch was wonderful.
On both days Martin presented a delicious lunch, King George Whiting the first day and marinated chicken on day two.
We also had morning or afternoon tea both days.
Martin was a great guide, knowledgeable, friendly and adaptable.
On the second day we asked if we might visit the honey shop that sells the honey ice cream. Not a problem.
Thoroughly recommend Exceptional Kangaroo Island Tours and you might be lucky to have Martin as your guide.

The 2 days spent with Mark were the best days of our entire 3 week trip. He is knowledgeable about the animals, plants and geographical sites. We saw wallabies, koalas, kangaroos, goanna lizards, many birds, seals and amazing scenery. Mark was good natured and very funny as well. I definitely recommend taking this tour if you have a chance!

Absolute wonderful Experience We actually did several tours with Exceptional Kangaroo Island. They are fantastic - every detail is well thought out. They are informative, personable, respectful of the animals and the environment and fun. Yulia was our guide and we loved her!

Dont miss this wonderful tour! This was an absolutely wonderful expérience. From gorgeous vistas and beaches to fascinating rock formations, wildlife, and history, we got to see so much, and very comfortable. Our guide Yulia was passionate and so knowledgable, sharing her infections love of this beautiful island.

The perfect start to visiting Kangaroo Island Our airplane arrived three hours late but our wonderful guide Yulia didn't miss a beat. She collected us from the airport and off we went! Within a few hours we'd had a delicious picnic in a forest setting, seen koalas, kangaroos, wallabies and an echidna, and learned so much about this beautiful place.

Interpretive Tour Guide was great Guide Lee Berryman was informative, charming and top notch in all categories. Just mention "shark attack". About that time he'll roll up his shorts and I'll let you him tell you his story.

An excellent, authentic 2-day tour of fascinating Kangaroo Island by true blooded native, Lee. Kangaroo Island has both an interesting history as well as incredible scenery and wildlife. Lee provided strong historical context and highly experienced background information on the plentiful seal, kangaroo, wallaby, bird life and fauna across the island. Kangaroo Island’s fire recovery from 6 years ago is truly incredible. We enjoyed the entire KI experience, and thanks for a truly authentic experience during our stay on this beautiful island.

It was my first time visiting the Island. David was an exceptional and extremely informative tour guide. We spent two full days on tour, covering most of the must see destinations. Morning tea and lunch were provided (high standard too) each day. If I had to pick a highlight, it was the Remarkable rocks and Admirals arch.

Great experience with two one-day tours Our family of Four did two one-day tours (Focus on Flinders Chase and Island Wildlife) and greatly enjoyed both days with our exceptional guide, Martin. Our kids aged 8 and 10 especially enjoyed the Wildlife tour. We really recommend those two tours.

Great day and amazing tour on Kangaroo Island. Our guide Franck was exceptional. He is extremely knowledgeable about everything from the animals to the history of the island. He is great company, interesting and fun to spend the day with. This really was the highlight of our trip. One of the great parts of the day was the superb lunch he prepared for us in the most out of the way place on the island. We would definitely recommend Exceptional Kangaroo Island and definitely request Franck.

Two out of three - ain't bad, but ain't great, and very expensive. I did all three single day small group tours offered by this company. Two of them, Focus on Flinders Chase, and Island Life, were both very enjoyable and educational, with plenty of iconic wildlife and unique scenery, and well explained. Should have stopped there . The third tour, Fine Flavours, wasn't as described or agreed, and I regret booking it. I would have appreciated a follow-up email from the owner welcoming my feedback.

Mar has been wonderful from start to finish. I can’t speak highly enough of her.
She kindly offered to do the tours in Spanish as we both speak the language, but I preferred to do it in English. She was not only very knowledgeable but also very fun to talk to.
I was very impressed by her ability to improvise and find alternatives to our second tour (Flinders Chase) which had to be amended on the spot due to the unexpected closure of the National Park caused by horrific weather. It ended up being great as we spotted two echidnas on the road on our new improvised route.

My daughter and I enjoyed our tour around the island with our guide, Shauna. There was only 5 of us on the tour and we went to Seal Bay, the north and south of the island. There were plenty of wild life including koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, and sheeps!! Shauna knew everyone and everything about the island. The bbq lunch was exceptional. Love the whole experience!

Exploring and Learning at its most enjoyable An absolutely first rate experience. Our guide, over 2 days, "Shona" seemed to know everything and everyone. She didn't just recite facts but shared her love of the island with us.

The full Kangaroo island package. We had a semi-private three day tour with Rick, an Exceptional Kangaroo guide. We saw all of the highlights, with extraordinary personal, local info from, Rick, an island native and experienced guide. Rick was the perfect combination of a competent, knowledgeable guide with a calm, pleasant, modest personality.

Very happy with the 3 day / 2 night package from Exceptional Husband and I did a 3 day/2 night vacation package from Exceptional Kangaroo. The first day was a pick in Adelaide, a McLaren Vale tour, and a drop off at the Kangaroo Island Ferry in Cape Jervis. The next 2 days were the Flinders Chase and Island Life tours from Exceptional. Communication prior was great and no hiccups with all the pieces. Shawna and Dave (our tour guides) were excellent. And good at preparing fabulous lunches. Just be warned that KI is 10% larger than the state of Rhode Island (set a guide for Americans ;-) . So there is a lot of travelling to get around. It's good to have experienced tour guides!

Excellent day on Kangaroo Island We had a delightful day. Lee provided many options to enjoys the fascinating sights of Kangaroo Island. We happened upon an echidna while driving and a koala was in a tree just at our lunch stop ( which was marvelous by the way). Others that shared the tour with us will be remembered as special friends.

Great Way to See a Beautiful Island We did the two day tour. Day one was a tour of the Island focusing on wildlife, beaches and Seal Bay. Day two was primarily a tour of Flinder's Chase National Park.

Day one was a dream come true. Our guide Mar was out of this world. She was friendly, knowledgeable, flexible and helpful. We started with a stop at Seal Bay and her explanation of the history of sea lions and seals was really informative. We spent the rest of the day between beautiful beaches,a secluded spot for lunch and up close encounters with koala's sleeping in trees, kangaroos in multiple locations and wallabies. We also stopped at a very nice distillery. The day couldn't have been better and Mar was so accommodating that it felt more like exploring a beautiful place with an old friend that being on a tour.

Our second day was with Shauna looking at areas impacted by a fire that devastated the Island and then exploring Flinder's Chase. Shauna was very knowledgeable and, as a long term resident seemed to know the story of every farmhouse we passed.
The park is beautiful and has lots to see. My only complaint is that this tour involves an enormous amount of driving since our hotel was closer to the opposite end of the Island.

Just a wonderful day We were blessed in having Mark as our allocated guide for the day. He was simply the most knowledgeable, engaging , professional guide. There were just the two of us on the tour so he could ‘personalise’ the tour for us.

Ascertaining that we were interested in birdlife allowed him to develop the day beyond the more obvious photogenic subjects (koalas etc) . We struck gold as Mark showed us a wide range of birdlife we’d have otherwise missed. The highlight was a pair of the threatened red tailed black cockatoos.

Nothing was too much trouble for Mark, we’d go on a tour with him anywhere safe in the knowledge we’d come away more informed than when we started.

Top tour, top fella, this day was one of the real highlights of our long tour of SA. If you’ve any interest in wildlife, history, nature and ecology this tour is for you.

Exceptional Private Photo Tour We did a 2-day Private Photography Tour with their hired vehicle and interpretive guide for just the 2 of us. Dave was amazing. We asked to focus on the island wildlife and the iconic landscapes. Without Dave, we would never have captured the photos and videos. We simply would not have known where to find the wildlife at various times of the day. We saw kangaroos including a joey in mama's pouch. We saw a joey wallaby nursing. We saw various bird species in a beautiful lagoon, adolescent fur lions playing on the rocks in Cape du Couedic, and the Seal Bay Conservatory where the Australian sea lion pups were running around on shore. And the koalas were adorable and very photogenic. The photo ops were amazing! Additionally, we strolled through the Remarkable Rocks and walked right up to Admiral's Arch. Lunches were prepared for us each day by Dave in the bush and on a cliff overlooking the ocean. While driving to different locations, Dave shared his knowledge of the wildlife, the history of the island and the culture. We can't say enough good things about our experience and about Dave, who was very instrumental in helping us capture some amazing photos but was also patient in giving us as much time as we needed. Even if you are an accomplished photographer, this tour is for you because the guide provides the opportunities to capture those once-in-a-lifetime shots. We highly recommend this tour!!!

Any amazing two days! We had an amazing two days on the island enjoying the wildlife everywhere. Everyone was welcoming and willing to share their time and experiences. Great Tour on Kangaroo Island Really enjoyed our 2 days on Kangaroo Island. Debated about visiting after the fires but it was well worth the time. Our guide was born and raised on KI and knew just where to find interesting wildlife. Very interesting to see how the island has recovered.

Absolutely fantastic day! Arnie went out of his way to make this our best tour in Australia. He knew all of the spots to see the best of Kangaroo Island. We even had tea with Kangaroos and lunch in the bush. We highly recommend this company and Arnie in particular!!

We enjoyed the tour with Exceptional Kangaroo Island Small Group Tours and Franck Vigouroux as our dedicated guide. It was a great day and aside from the Island wild life interaction I was able to introduce myself to the delicious fish "WHITING" that is also my namesake / last name. The " al fresco " lunch prepared by Chef Franck was a big hit and being able to visit the Island Gin Distillery was an awesome way to finish off the day's activities. Highly recommend a day with Franck if the option exists.

Excellent exceptionally good tour This was a truly brilliant tour. We saw a huge amount of wildlife during the day: koalas, wallabies, sea lions and kangaroos. Craig was very knowledgeable about
Kangaroo island in terms of history, way of life and how life has evolved there. He was able to find the wildlife with his local knowledge, and we learnt a huge amount about the different animals. He also explained about the really frightening times that people on the island had during the terrible fire of 2019/2020, but showed us how the trees and plants are regenerating. The recovery of nature on the island was just fantastic to see. He told us about rewilding work on Kangaroo Island and other conservation work. Craig also cooked a top quality lunch on a BBQ with a covered table. The food was excellent and we were amazed how he produced such an excellent meal. We learnt so much from Craig that day, the memories will last for a very long time. We were also really grateful to Exceptional Kangaroo
Island in showing us great flexibility as we had to postpone our visit and this tour for a whole year due to serious illness. We were so pleased they honoured our booking from 2023. Thanks so very much

Exceptional tours are indeed exceptional We spent two fantastic days with Mark, our guide from Exceptional Kangaroo Tours, on our 3-day visit to Kangaroo Island this past March. He picked us up promptly, drove us to wonderful sights around the island, including Flinders National Park and Seal Bay, made us two fantastic lunches and took us swimming at Stokes Bay, a gorgeous beach with a very unique "entrance." His careful searching for wildlife got us right in front of koalas, wallabies, kangaroos, seals and so on. He was very knowledgeable about the island, history, wildlife, the landscape and so on, and enhanced our time on the island immeasurably. Highly recommended tour!

Exhilarating Day! My husband and I spent a full day with Franck, and it was an absolutely exhilarating experience. Our goal was to see koalas, kangaroos and wallabees in the wild, and Franck helped us find many (20 koalas! Plus so much more). In addition, Franck made us a lovely picnic lunch. He was great company and was very knowledgeable. We highly recommend him.

We used Exceptional Kangaroo Island for Island Life and Fine Flavors tours in March 2024. We had Franck V. for these tours. I cannot begin to tell you have absolutely wonderful Franck is - knowledgeable, funny, patient, kind, and if that wasn’t enough, a fantastic chef! His love of the island is palpable. We visited the Australian Sea Lions, which are critically endangered, and he talked about them as if he was one of the conservationists. He spoke of their hard lives, educated us on how plastics are the number one threat, made sure we didn’t get near them on the walkway so we didn’t accidentally get sand in their eyes. We learned how to spot Koalas in the trees, tasted local honey and spirits, learned the history of the island and his role in fighting the fires that devastated the island in 2020. And then, he cooked us a lunch that was beyond. King George whiting with lemon and white wine, a simple salad, fruits, all under a canopy where we talked with the others on the tour in a relaxed atmosphere. Franck creates that atmosphere so you can absorb all that Kangaroo Island has to offer.

As the lucky winner of a day trip for 4 people with owner Craig Wickham, we spent a fantastic day with Craig learning things about Kangaroo Island we did not know, and visited places we have never been. His generous donation to the Art Museum of KI is a tribute to him and his business. We were spoilt with a delicious lunch and having a diverse group with us that have lived on KI for 17 years and some that had never been here, he was able to tailor the day to make it interesting and exciting for all.

My husband and I were absolutely blown away by Exceptional Kangaroo Island. Run by quick witted, highly educated and thoroughly friendly guides; we arrived hoping for pictures of koalas and kangaroos and left absolutely moved by the islands beauty and its inhabitants stout character. We learned about the delicate ecosystem, the various approaches locals have taken to find the right balance of tourism and conservation, the perilous fires of 2019-2020 and their impact on both residents and animals. The landscape is the most iconic Australian land you could imagine; gorgeous beaches, golden rolling hills, fragrant eucalyptus forests and picturesque bluffs. Our guide Tim Williams was absolutely excellent in every way- his tour was equally entertaining and informative and he was great at gauging the groups interests and making adjustments when needed. We could not have asked for a better guide nor more impactful experience. Thank y’all so much!!

Kangeroo Island is a fantastic Island; and with a guide it can be an experience for life. We had two beatiful days ! Kangaroo Island is a teriffic island. The birds and animals on the island are exotic, and you can see them in their natural environment. This is so much better experience compared to go to a Zoo. The excellent guide will also give you a lot of knowledge about the Island and the rare anamals who live here. On the trip you are served exelent food too. We are very satisfied with our experience, and we had two fantastic days here!

Absolutely FANTASTIC 2 day tour of the island. Mark, our guide so so knowledgeable, kind, a great cook and server, and overall great person! He took us to places that we never would have found on our own. Saw so many kangaroos, koalas, wallabies, and echidnas.
He was a patient and let us explore and spend as much time as needed at different locations. The morning tea and coffee along with Anzac biscuits and lamingtons were scrumptious. Lunches were yummy and beautifully presented in a unique setting. Thank you for this Exceptionally unique and informative experience.

Disappointing experience on the Flinder's Chase Tour My husband and I did 2 full days with Exceptional Kangaroo Island on our honeymoon, as suggested by our travel agent.

We did the Island Life Tour and the Flinders Chase tour. We had wanted to do them in that order but upon arrival, found that the company swapped our days to maximize how many people they could put on each tour van. That makes sense. However, on that first day (Flinders Chase tour), they packed every seat full in an older van that was way too squished and had poor visibility out the windows. We could hardly see out and my husband got really claustrophobic for the first couple hours until we were able to get out and switch him around with other passengers to fit better.

One of the other women on our tour complained about the experience to the guide who said they haven’t been able to get a new van since covid and they’re received this complaint from other groups before. The company knew it would be a very unpleasant experience, and yet proceeded with accepting as many reservations as they did.

Additionally, the Flinder’s Chase Tour specifically was a TON of time riding around in the van versus being out seeing and doing things. It’s tough because we wanted to visit the landmarks on the island and those take time to drive to, so we understand that a good amount of time in the van is necessary, but when we got there it was like we’d get out for a few minutes and wander around, then go back in the van. I can see how that would be desirable for the other folks on our tour who were all retirement age and older. But for us, who are in our 20's and enjoy being active and maximizing our time spent in each place we travel to, this tour was frustrating and disappointing, especially for how much we spent on it.

The 2nd day for the Island Life Tour was better. We had a newer van that was bigger with better visibility out the windows and less people packed in it. Much more comfortable. We spent more time outside looking at animals and learning about our surroundings.

If I were to do Kangaroo Island again, I would rent a car so that we can have much more flexibility and our ability to get around the island would not be so limited. We could have seen all of the landmarks but also be able to spend more time outside walking/hiking. I probably still would have done the Island Life Tour because it was great to have a guide to educate us. But for the landmarks that we saw on the Flinder’s Chase Tour, we could have googled information about what we were looking at and had the same/better experience.

I want to mention that after the first day, we were told the company owner could call us to rectify the situation, but we never received a call. That is the primary reason I feel compelled to leave this review.

Overall, I do still believe the Exceptional Kangaroo Island is the best touring option on the Island (as we heard that from a few local people), but encourage them to prioritize the customer experience (which should result in more profit over time) over maximizing short term profits. I understand that small companies are still hurting from covid, and specifically KI companies who are still recovering from the fires, and that I do not have visibility to their business strategy; these are my 2 cents.

Great look at the animals that make KI so special I was picked up when I arrived at Kangaroo Island airport and enjoyed a small group tour of the island. (I had wanted to do an overnight tour, but the second day was fully booked.) There were only five people on my tour and our guide was excellent.

Among the animals we saw on Kangaroo Island were several koalas and kangaroos, as well as several species of birds. It was nice to visit some remote spots that were off-the-beaten-path. A highlight of the day was the opportunity to walk on the same beach as the Australian sea lions. Lunch was lovely with grilled whiting and salad.

Exceptional Kangaroo Island also booked a shuttle bus to the ferry terminal after my tour. I caught the evening ferry to the mainland and then had a two hour bus ride to Adelaide. It was a long, but enjoyable day.

Outstanding visit We are an older couple from the US. We visited Kangaroo Island in September of 2023. We had a private tour for two days through Extraordinary Kangaroo Island with Mark Watson as our guide. The experience was outstanding across the board - pleasant accommodation, comfortable transport, interesting lunch stops and so on, but the highlight was Mark and his amazing knowledge and skill. It was hard to believe we could see so much in just two days. We are especially interested in wildlife, especially birds, and we saw at least 40 species of birds, about one on every page of the nice bird identification booklet he gave us. Many were common birds that were exciting to us foreigners, but many were also shy or rare species we would never have found on our own. Mark seems to know them all personally and knows where to find them. We also saw lots of other wildlife, some rare and some common. He even found an echidna along the side of the road and we were able to watch it feeding. Amazing that he can drive briskly along a dirt road and spot a small slow-moving camouflaged creature. He’s a very good driver, and very patient and friendly. He covered a lot of ground quickly, but without making us feel rushed. He’s great with wildlife, but also very knowledgeable about the history and geography of the island. We enjoyed every minute and felt it was an excellent value.

Two magical days We took two full day tours with Exceptional Kangaroos; one with Lee and one with Franck. Both were excellent and gave us a very clear overview of the Island. Lee shared his long-term experience as a native of KI, he has a fascinating background and provided great information. We saw the spectacular Remarkable Rocks, Admiral's Arch and koalas in the trees. Franck was equally informational, and, on his tour, we went to Seal Bay to get up close to the Sea Lions. It was magical and Franck taught us all about their habits. We also visited Stokes Bay where Franck led us through a tunnel of rocks, the only access to the beach. It was stunning. He took us through a field to a hidden spot where there was a covered picnic area and grilled some delicious fish, potatoes and halloumi. On both days, we had lovely lunches, white linens and wine.
I highly recommend the tours be aware that there is a lot of driving time, but it is well worth it.

Look no further - BOOK Exceptional KI! Cannot rave enough about the two one-day tours we booked, Island Life and Flinders Chase Focus. Both were truly exceptional and first-class.

We had different guides for each tour - Lee and Franck, respectively. They both provided thorough and fascinating information about KI, its history, the sights and wildlife. They both took us to spots off the beaten path, where we could see wildlife. The Remarkable Rocks (Flinders Chase) were truly - remarkable! The freshly prepared and delicious lunches were served on a white tablecloth, with cloth napkins and real dishes. And wine - as well as a selection of other beverages. In addition, they provided gluten free food for my husband (celiac), including at morning tea.

We were especially fortunate to be the only ones to have booked Flinders Chase Focus on that date, so it ended up being a private tour. And Franck was great at accommodating our last-minute request to enable us to leave a bit earlier to catch an earlier ferry.

Communication with the company prior to the tour was excellent and they provided many helpful suggestions, including transportation information, recommended tours based on our interests, and other logistics. The caliber of these tours made KI one of the highlights of a 5-week trip to Australia & NZ.

Wow! What a beautiful Island.... The 2 day tour showed us some awesome views and sites. What a beautiful Island. Although the weather was rainy and very windy, it gave us Mother Nature at its finest, WOW! - The Seals, Admirals Arch etc. What an experience. Morning Tea and Lunch was beautiful and delicious. Thanks Michael for the wonderful experience on our tour, you spoilt us rotten. We would definitely recommend this tour company.
