An absolutely stunning location with unbelievably delicious food. Everything was utterly flawless from the exceptional service to the perfect flavours. Despite an aversion to mushrooms I was enthusiastically devouring a delectable mushroom parfait that’s how good the chefs are. Couldn’t recommend more highly

A bit of a roller coaster at St Hugo.

I took the time to fill the form to book online (you have to choose what you want in the menu and give your dietary requirement) but when we arrived, none of it mattered, we were just seated as if I didn’t book anything.

Also, it was cold inside despite the main door closed and the big fire next to us. In the main room, the wood on the ceiling, stone on the chimney, some kind of black marble for the counter, some kind of white marble on walls, a patch of dark grey carpet and bistrot-style table got us confused about where we are. The service was a bit slow. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely.

All the staff was very friendly, Maude took great care of us and the dishes were excellent. I would highly recommend the pork as it will challenge your palate, as well as the artichoke. Everything was perfectly cooked and executed.

Overall more positive than negative and we’ll keep good memories of St. Hugo.

I was lucky enough to spend my birthday at St Hugo last weekend and WOW. From start to finish this winery is next level. THE food THE atmosphere THE setting THE service THE tastings Heroes of the day were the Wagyu Brisket and the 2 bottles of St Hugo GSM for lunch 😊🍷. We even saw some beautiful horse rides meandering their way around the winery from our dining table - magic! Jodie had us busting up laughing throughout the entire tasting and as a true Barossa local she has a serious knowledge and passion for wine - we were treated to the most amazing flight of wine tastings we could possibly imagine. I wanted to do a winery lunch in the area, and this was the only one open on the day we would be available - and sooo happy it was.
It started out a bit off as we couldn’t find the correct entrance ( few different buildings) but once inside it was all good. You have to reserve as they have limited hours and seating.

We had a lovely vineyard and courtyard table with a nice view of the rest of the restaurant. It’s big and very wine centric looking with a fireplace on one end. I imagine in winter it’s magical.
We shared a tasty Caesar salad and soufflé, and the. I had the halloumi salad - the cheese done perfectly, and my hubby the duck - also done perfectly. Of course we had some St Hugo wine- Shiraz and Cab Sauv which went perfectly with our dishes. I hadn’t had their wines before and was so impressed with them.
We were too full for dessert but enjoyed our wine and chatting with our waitress about the wines. Really the perfect way to spend an afternoon in wine country.

What a wonderful experience my wife and I had celebrating her birthday here.

From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding. Elaine welcomed us so warmly, and her level of care and professionalism was truly admirable. The rest of the F&B team were also fantastic — they assisted us with our orders and even helped take a lovely photo of us in front of the fireplace :)

The food was excellent as well. We ordered the fish and the mushroom dish, and both were beautifully prepared and tasty. My wife mentioned her appreciation directly to one of the chefs, and we hope this feedback can be passed on to the whole team who were rostered on yesterday.

The St Hugo winery deserves full marks. The location and the views are gorgeous, the restaurant and wine sellers beautiful. Everyone was incredibly friendly and our waitress was knowledgeable and friendly. The food did not disappoint either.
After all beautiful salmon starter, we had a very tasty fish and a beautifully cooked duck. The sides were equally enjoyable. The Tiramisu for dessert was fantastic, light and fluffy and the cheesecake was one of the best we have ever had. Delicious.
This beautiful winery operates on a much smaller, but far more intimate scale. On top of that, they grow their own vegetables and fruit. Even the salmon was smoked in house.

I've visited St Hugo's twice and was lucky to be served by the same staff member, Jaime. We had a reservation the first time and enjoyed a fun and informative wine tasting. We tried the platter which was good, however this could be better. The cute hand-painted chocolates however were fantastic and Jaime made time to engage and look after our daughter. We walked away with lots of wine to enjoy later.

Our second visit was with friends and was spur of the moment. We tried for a tasting however they were fully booked. Jaime was working and remembered us from the first time. She was very apologetic about not being able to do a tasting for us, but was happy to serve us drinks. This time we sat outside and enjoyed the warm weather. The grounds are beautiful and the walled courtyard covered in lush green vines makes for an amazing spot to enjoy a chilled wine with friends. Again, Jaime made time to make the children feel welcome.

We are yet to try the restaurant so can't comment on that...yet, however would highly recommend reserving your spot for any tastings to avoid disappointment.

I was visiting from the USA & one of my family members was nice enough to take me out to the Barossa Valley. St Hugo surely did not disappoint!

We opted for the Legends of the Vine Icon Tasting which was a private tasting in a beautiful tasting room. Holly was our wine guide and she was absolutely fantastic. She was so upbeat, welcoming and very knowledgeable on all of the wines. Not once did we feel rushed; she truly made us feel welcomed. In addition, Holly made the tasting fun and extremely memorable. I actually learned a lot about the wines from the Barossa & Coonawarra regions, thanks to her!

As for the wines, we had 6 various wines ranging from a Grenache, GSM and various Cabs and Shiraz. In addition, many of the wines offered were older vintages, which were special to taste. The flagship wines were the 2013 Grant Burge Meshach
& 2015 St Hugo Vetus Purim Cabernet. Both big, bold wines that would benefit from additional cellaring. Both fantastic! My personal favorite was the 2007 St Hugo Cabernet from Coonawarra. The subtle hints of Eucalyptus, menthol type notes are something so unique to the Coonawarra region of Australia. Overall, a fantastic tasting of 6 wines that showcased St Hugo very well!

After our tasting, we headed upstairs for lunch in the “Glasshouse,” a beautiful dining setting. Floor to ceiling windows looked out towards the vineyard which was absolutely stunning. We opted for the Epicurean Cellar Tasting Menu which was paired with 4 excellent wines. Overall, food was great and the service from the team was outstanding! It was a really enjoyable meal in a very relaxing and beautiful atmosphere.

If you’re thinking of visiting the Barossa Valley, St Hugo is a must visit. From the high quality wines to the outstanding service, the experience at St Hugo is one that I will remember for a very long time.

Where to start..... We got married at St Hugo last weekend. Saturday the 1st and OMG Brittany and the team were absolutly amazing. They went above and beyond to make our day special and perfect. The chef even agreed to serve up garlic bread 😊

We did the Garden to Table experience. Initially we were greeted and taken for a stroll around the property and kitchen garden by our hostess Sonia. Informative, interesting and made even more pleasant by a glass of French bubbles. The property itself is stunning with views in every direction. The restaurant has a phenomenal feature fireplace and makes use of the views.
We were then seated at a counter top overlooking the kitchen where we were introduced to the chefs, Simon and offsiders Liam and Ricky. All were exceptionally friendly and happy to discuss ingredients and techniques. One of the smoothest running kitchens I have seen. Even when they became extraordinarily busy there was no shouting or banging. Corrections made to junior staff with politeness and no malice. All the team members worked smoothly.
The food was exceptional and of a high level of refinement. Each dish was designed around a few key ingredients and these were elevated to display their qualities. The bonus of sitting by the kitchen meant we were lucky enough to have a few tastes of dishes intended elsewhere. The matching wines from the estate were all of a high standard including the Grenache. An interesting change to have it as a single variety rather than a GSM. The finishing desserts matched the quality of the rest of the meal and I'm stealing the idea of a sour cream icecream! Before we knew it 3 1/2 hours had passed and we left pleasantly full but not overstuffed. An experience I can't wait to repeat and one we will be bringing all our visitors to.

We did the Garden Experience yesterday and it was seriously fantastic. The food was amazing, the Chef talked us through each dish and the wine pairings were perfect. I couldn't believe how generous the whole team were with their knowledge. Would absolutely recommend!

We did Discovery and Signatures tastings. The staff were kind and very polite. The whole experience was executed in a relaxed manner, we were not rushed or pressured.

Exceptional! What an amazing wine and food experience at St Hugo cellar door. Surrounded by beautiful vineyards our small group was taken on a tour of the grounds with a bottomless glass of French champagne before being taken into the restaurant for the most divine five course degustation meal accompanied by St Hugo‘s most superb wines.
Our table backed immediately onto the kitchen so we could watch head chef Simon Hicks and his team create delicious plates for us to devour.
Simon was extremely generous with his time and meaningful chats about his professional life, the restaurant game, wine, and everything in between!

Four of us arrived on a Wednesday and decided to do the wine tasting. Jodie made us feel very welcome so we settled in to taste the range. Jodie’s explanation of not only the wines but the history of St Hugo and Grant Burge was impressive. Off for a lunch break, Jodie handed over to Paul who continued with incredible detail in his description of each wine and shared stories that kept us entertained. The impromptu tour of the facility was great and we left thoroughly satisfied with the best cellar door wine experience we’ve had. Can highly recommend.

Our favourite winery - and all the way from Brisbane to see it and we have purchased some beautiful wines and popped ourselves on the mailing list - next time we will have a feed here we hear it is pretty good- staff exceptionally helpful!

We spend a most enjoyable time with Jodie & Paul. They were both so knowledgeable, friendly & informative about the history of the family, region & winery. We appreciated the tour of the premises & would highly recommend their wine tasting and a visit to this beautiful environment.

An excellent experience followed by a superb lunch. Booked to Riedel master class and will always remember the tips given by our excellent host Ferdanand as I am no where near a wine expert. The comparison of the glasses with the same wine was something I wondered about and had read somewhat about.
The lunch afterwards was excellent we could only do two of the three courses though desert was very tempting and we got to finish one of the excellent wines we tried in the class.
We had the mushroom pate and excellent onion soup for entree, mains were the baramundi and chicken breast with a side of roast potatoes,

An experience not to be missed!!! St Hugo’s “Garden to Table Experience & Lunch” is for those who seek more than a meal. It started with a walk through the Kitchen Garden where chef Simon Hicks talked to us about the produce and the vines. Once inside, we were seated within arm’s reach of the kitchen and watched Simon and his team in action. We were able to engage with the chef throughout the meal, gaining insight into techniques, ingredients, inspiration and with lots of laughs along the way. With a profound dedication to seasonal and locally-sourced ingredients, he emphasises uncomplicated dishes. The sommelier guided us through an impeccable selection of wines, each enhancing and elevating the dish it accompanied. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this wasn’t going to be just a lunch; it was a curated experience that blended food, wine, and storytelling.

First time in the Barossa Valley. St. Hugo's was our very first stop on Anzac Day. Angela was an amazing host with our tasting session. She had to juggle a few tables but did so with elegance and ease. Loved the Riesling. Loved the whole estate. Was magic. Five stars. We cannot wait to return ☺️

Every mouth full of the St Hugo range of Riesling, Shiraz and Tawny was lovely. All 6 wine tastings were a 10/10. The Trio of Chefs on board are an excellent team and offer the diner a great experience from garden to plate. My tastebuds definetly found the best of The Barossa all in one place. Thank you for showing us a Wonderful time, we can't wait to return and be reacquainted ! 5⭐️

Not so good experience I’ve never felt more unwelcome at a restaurant. The service was not just bad—it was clearly biased. From the moment we arrived, the staff barely acknowledged us, while other customers were greeted with smiles and friendly attitudes. We were basically ignored unless we pushed for attention. They were refilling water for every other table but didn’t even bother to give us some.

Let’s call it what it is: it felt like racism. There’s no other way to explain how differently we were treated compared to others around us. It’s 2025, this kind of behaviour is disgusting and unacceptable.

I don’t care how good the food might be. If you can’t treat people with basic respect, especially people of color, then your business doesn’t deserve support. I won’t be back, and I hope others think twice before going.

Incredible experience Amazing. The chef Simon, walked us through the kitchen garden (sipping champagne) and showed us some of the plants they use (who knew what a Jerusalem artichoke plant or a caper bush looked like!). We then got a prime seat watching the kitchen staff prepare the lunch sitting for about 40 people (so calm, so organised) and got our very special lunch served with some pretty incredible wines. The vegetarian option they prepared for me were so thoughtful and didn’t feel like poor cousins. (Best eggplant I have ever had). It was the highlight of the trip to The Barossa and I really recommend anyone interested in food (and wine) do it if they can. Huge thanks to Simon ( such a clever and lovely guy) and his kitchen team plus Sonia who explained the wine matches for an unforgettable afternoon.

Best day in the Barossa! Wow, Wow, wowsers!!!! We loved this experience. Simon Hicks the head chef, spent time explaining their garden , planting for the restaurant, and history of the winery.
His banter and sense of humour kept us entertained for hours. The staff very very professional and amazingly attentive. We watched the chefs at work ( Adrian, Josh and Charlotte) who all showed their skill under the watchful eyes of Simon. Our day at St Hugo sampling the food and wine were the absolute highlight of our visit to the Barossa.

AVOID being treated with contempt AVOID! Save your time and money - avoid this establishment. We arrived with a lunch booking, specifically planning to enjoy their wine tasting, only to encounter a maze of rigid policies and inflated prices. Despite having a lunch reservation, we were told wine tasting required a separate booking or an absurd 2.5-hour wait. Their explanation? None - they couldn't justify why tastings weren't possible at lunch tables, unlike some wineries in the area that even include complimentary tastings WITH lunch. The menu revealed equally disappointing pricing: $54 for a measly 250g steak, and their signature vintage was arbitrarily restricted to $20 pours while standard options were $13. A winery needs to show its expertise on even its cheapest vintages and not require an upsell. When we sought clarification from manager Connor about these policies, his dismissive attitude made it clear customer satisfaction isn't a priority - he offered zero solutions and treated our reasonable concerns as our problem. After Connor claimed they were "too busy" for tastings, we discovered the cellar door had only one group present - he'd blatantly lied to our faces. Their "premium" pricing doesn't match their subpar service. While my friend proceeded with lunch, I refused to waste money on such an overpriced, inflexible venue that treats customers with contempt. Do yourself a favour and visit any of the numerous other welcoming wineries in the region that actually value their guests.

Spare no expense here: it is an investment for the soul.

TLDR: If I could rate this more than a 5/5, I would - this is hospitality at its absolute finest. Service, food, and wine - all class. Spend the afternoon here and bathe in tranquil, good vibes and a near-spiritual sensory experience.

Food: Not a fault in any dish. Culinary perfection from entrees to dessert. Paired with the wines that Fed picked out for us, you may as well be consuming manna from the heavens. One elevates the other.

We had the misfortune of having a vegan in our retinue, and the chef tailored a 4-course meal perfectly to his exacting needs.

Service: Fed made the experience the absolute highlight of our trip. Jovial, knowledgeable, accommodating: the best that hospitality has to offer. The rest of the staff were also a class act.

Atmosphere: Tranquil space surrounded by greenery. You’ll dine in absolute comfort with the surrounds of SA’s best.

Excellent advice and delicious tasting Masa gave us a brilliant tasting in the Wine Cave downstairs. We tasted a variety of whites and reds and his knowledge was invaluable enabling relevant comparisons with geographical referrals which made it all the more interesting.

Such a fabulous lunch! Our first stop in the Barossa and what a winner. Really great staff- friendly and knowledgeable. The food was perfect and we had a great wine and looked out through the incredible fireplace.

World best This was an outstanding experience. From the moment we arrived at this beautiful winery with its ironstone buildings and architectural modern additions, we were cared for with grace and humor. A glass of champagne in front of a roaring fire was only the start. Chef, Simon Hicks, and his team were passionate about fresh, seasonal food with the emphasis on taste. The trip to the kitchen garden gave us insight into the philosophy that Simon is bringing to his food offerings, with the menu changing monthly to reflect the best seasonal produce. The experience of watching the chefs prepare our menu was theatre. The banter, knowledge and warmth made us feel special. Both the food and the matching wines were outstanding. We had some great vintages. The experience exceeded our expectations many times over. We loved it so much we have already booked the same experience for January, to showcase the Barossa to some American visitors. Well done to all at St Hugo. We travel the world and have never had better. We are very fortunate to have the Barossa and venues of this caliber.

Beauty inside and outside at this Vineyard.

We walked in to an amazing space that was very inviting with the crackling of the fire and the smell of the amazing food that we were yet to eat.

The decor is beautiful - from the stone walls to the comfortable lounge chairs in front of the fire, to the sizeable windows that allow natural light to fill the space.

Then came lunch and of course the wine. The service was terrific, a little slow to get started but once the girls started they were fantastic and made sure we were made to feel very welcome.

Although the menu seemed restricted with choices it also was hard to choose from the selection as everything sounded amazing and tasted the same. WOW - delicious and the wine also complimented our meal.

The claim to fame for this place though for me was - THE BEST EVER CHEESECAKE I have had from a restaurant.... Seriously HEAVENLY.

Best wine tasting I've done. The wine was quality and the tawny worth every cent you pay for it. Did 3 tastings today and it knocked the other two out of the park for quality. Maso was incredibly knowledgeable about the science and history behind the grape growing, wine making and Hugo Gramp. Shame we didn't have more time to stay and enjoy a bite to eat. I'm sure it would have been amazing too. Hot tip: we went on Monday before lunch and it was just us. We got silver service as a result. I bet it is packed on a weekend

The best 4 hours I have ever spent at a winery. The Riedel Master Class and Lunch. The Riedel Master Class and Signature experience was brilliant. Masa showed us how a single wine can taste so differently just by how it is allowed to enter your mouth. We all gained a whole new approach to how we could better enjoy drinking wine.
The private meeting room with the largest custom timber V shaped table I have ever seen, surrounded by floor to ceiling vintages of St.Hugo wines just elevates your expectations when you walk in the room. The journey you undertake for the next hour or so only disappoints when you have to leave.
We then had the privilege of having lunch in the beautiful St. Hugo dining room. The food is to die for and the staff are so friendly and attentive. You have to try the apple pie

We were impressed as soon as we walked n to the dining room. The food and beverage staff were very accomodating, friendly and took care of all our requests. We had a few allergies and they were so kind in helping us. Including the chef who says hi 👋 when you walk pass the open kitchen.
We had a wonderful experience there and highly recommend that you pay the dining room a visit. The food is very well prepared and the chef took very careful steps

The chef were jovial and made us feel very well taken care of with his delicious food.

Best Barossa Experience The St Hugo Riedel Masterclass & 3 course Dining Experience was the highlight of our Barossa Valley trip! We were all so impressed with the location and the wonderful friendly staff and exceptional service. Thank you to Dru for guiding us through an amazing journey on how the right glassware influences the taste and enjoyment of the St. Hugo wines! Also thank you to Megan and Ferdinand for a superb lunch. We highly recommend this experience! Everything was perfect from start to finish!

Sensational- one of our favourite wines. The Hugo Gramps experience was great. Drew was professional and very knowledgeable, was interesting to learn about the history behind St Hugo, Father and Son . Ambience and setting is just stunning ????????????????????????we have also been lucky enough to have eaten lunch here previously and enjoyed the degustation dinner - LOVE it ????????

Must do for a Barossa Visit Unfortunately due to staff constraints we were unable to do cooking class. However we were given plenty of notice and we’re accommodated differently.
We still had a wonderful walking tour of garden with chef and front of house manager. With informative history of buildings and winery. We had a wonderful tasting experience. Followed by a 4 coarse lunch (with special extras from chef). Complementary wine with food, topped off by a complementary bottle to take home.
Staff were lovely, service exceptional and food amazing. Highly recommended.

Definitely worth a visit Had a wonderful wine tasting experience in the downstairs tasting room. Enjoyed every wine I tried (which rarely happens for me). Then upstairs to the dining room for lunch. Was a beautiful space, open and light but still cozy on a cold winters day (massive fire place helped). Food was excellent. Staff were friendly and attentive (Lauren, Fed and co.). Will definitely be going back.
