Well informed local tour guide Fantastic afternoon, a look around Darwin, Carles Darwin NP, then onto Fogg Dam. The Dam and the flat plain on the other side of the retaining wall areteeming with a wide variety of bird life and animals. The crocodiles were a little bit elusive. Go on this tour! This was a wonderful way to spend time with a guide who cares about Darwin and his guests. All of this experience was delivered as promised - plus cold water and snacks. Our guide was professional and passionate in sharing Darwin's exquisite birdlife, agricultural, community and military history, First Nations languages and past and present stewardship of this part of Australia. We saw a crocodile in its habitat safely and our guide maintained 'croc awareness' while explored outdoors to see wildlife. The tour time was comfortable as a day trip from Darwin's CBD. As a solo traveller on this trip, the guide's warmth, knowledge and enthusiasm meant our small group were chatting and laughing together not long into the trip. An affordable and fun lunch at an iconic pub was included in the tour, as were binoculars and some guidance about how they work.The photos taken by our guide were beautiful and these were shared with us after the tour. Birds Galore! We spent the better part of a day with Geoff and about 70 species of birds. Took a private tour in the morning and the Humpty Doo tour in the evening. Geoff is an amazing birder- he would mention a prior sighting and magically that same bird would appear again! He’s knowledgeable and patient with newbies like me, and a lot of fun to be with. Get off your butt and see the top!! Wow! If you REALLY want to see the TOP . Geoff’s your man!! From the minute Geoff picked us up from the airport it was a very professional, educational and fun experience. We elected to do the personalised guided tour in his immaculately presented 4WD. Yes, every day Geoff had his vehicle, with vacuumed floors and windows sparkling, so we never missed a sighting. Our guide’s incredible knowledge of the bombing of Darwin and its war history, plus the devastation of cyclone Tracey and the rebuild of the city, was very impressive. Our visits to the museums and galleries reinforced this new found knowledge. When we hit the National Parks and waterways, Geoff’s in depth knowledge and photographic prowess of all that there is the discover and admire, came to the fore. He is passionate about ensuring that for every moment that you are with him, you are experiencing the best there is on offer. It was an absolute amazing week we even had a “surprise” collection of fantastic photographs forwarded to us at the conclusion of our trip to just top it off!!!read moreread less

5 star service We did not book a tour with Lookabout Tours on our last trip to Darwin however we happened to run into Geoff on our self drive to Fogg Dam and even though we were not using his services in a paid capacity Geoff still took time out of his day to point to us some of the animals and birds that he managed to find. He didn't do this on one occasion he actually did it 4 different times including stopping his car to tell us where we should be looking for a Crocodile he had earlier found. TOP Top End TOUR This tour is the perfect introduction to Darwin and the Top End. It takes you to Fogg Dam and surrounds for bird watching. Geoff knows where to look and spot the tiniest of birds you never knew were there. And captures them close-up with a camera you can only dream of. Bigger birds and crocodiles are not ignored, either. He has a unique talent to engage all his guests and is happy to share his encyclopaedic knowledge of the birds as well as Darwin with them. The pace is leisurely to make the most of each bird spotting opportunity that presents itself. The lunch at Humpty Doo was a great end to the morning tour. Make time for this tour while in Darwin This tour was the absolute highlight of our stay in Darwin! The tour guide, Geoff, was punctual and the transport was clean & comfortable. Geoff even had water and snacks for us as well as the binoculars and his super camera for close ups of the wildlife. As well as crocs in the wild, we also saw jabiru, 2 types of kingfisher, wild ducks, wrens water buffalo and wallabies. Geoff is highly knowledgeable and included a brief tour and history of Darwin in the trip. The Humpty Doo hotel is well worth the visit too - very much the outback pub with great food and friendly staff.I highly recommend this tour.

An outstanding excursion! We spent an outstanding afternoon and evening with Geoff from LookAbout. The excursion covered a variety of sites in and around Darwin. Geoff is obviously quite knowledgeable about the history of Darwin and relayed many interesting facts which are probably not widely known. We were particularly interested in wildlife, so we visited several locations where we were able to get some fantastic photos. He is also an outstanding photographer and was very aware of lighting, and what direction and angles would give us the best photos. We finished the evening with dinner at a local pub, which had outstanding food. I totally recommend this excursion, more individuals, couples, and families. Booking was easy. Unforgettable tour of Fogg Dam Our trip to the wetlands around Fogg Dam was truly enjoyable and memorable. Geoff, our guide/driver has such amazing knowledge of and passion for this stunning location. We never felt hurried and he went out of his way to show us so much, not wanting us to miss any wildlife opportunity.The sunset was very special as was the sleepy croc just by the side of the road.
Dinner at Humpty Doo pub another highlight.

Absolutely excellent! This was a really excellent tour.Geoff was a great guide, with an extensive knowledge of the history, geography, and particularly the wildlife of the region, and he was also extremely helpful and friendly with his guests.
The late afternoon/evening timing provided many opportunities to see the local wildlife, particularly birds.
We were a most congenial group of six, and I'm sure every one of us enjoyed the tour, Geoff's commentary and observations along the way, and a fun and satisfying dinner at the Humpty Doo pub on our way back to the city.
If I'm back in Darwin in the future, I'll definitely do the tour again.

Such a great choice again! We booked this knowing we would be arriving on a Viking Cruise ship. It was perfect for us. The pick up was easy. Geoff was very knowledgeable and informative. We learned very much about Darwin and the area. The wildlife we saw was amazing. You will not regret taking this tour. The Humpty Doo was perfect. The crock, barramundi and buffalo were delicious. Professional tour with good pictures for memory First of all, I was glad I booked this tour via Tripadvisor before I arrived in Darwin. When I visited the tourist information centre at Darwin city centre, they told me most of the local tours were canceled due to flooding.I received a clear WhatsApp message from Jane of the tour company about the pick up time and location one day prior to the tour. Geoff who was the driver and the tour guide was friendly and professional. I quite liked the idea of this tour having each passenger to sit adjacent to the window to have a better view throughout the tour. Geoff provided useful information and insight throughout the tour and there was no boring time. He talked with everyone to engage us. We sat down to have drinks and lunch together for chit chat. We only had 5 passengers including myself, like a semi-private tour. It was the first time I had received photos taken by the tour guide after the tour. The photos were professional and better than those I took. They leave me a good memory of Darwin surroundings. Overall, I enjoyed the tour very much and appreciated Jane and Geoff for their professional services making my time enjoyable in Darwin.

Excellent tour: Darwin History, Fogg Dam Reserve, Humpty Doo lunch break 5 stars (*****)! Pick-up from the Darwin cruise terminal was perfect. Geoff was friendly, engaging, and accommodating to the interests of our group. He shared information about Darwin's history which was fascinating. If you are interested in wildlife/wildlife photography, you will love Geoff and his photography skills. Geoff knew the locations with the best likelihood of seeing particular birds and animals, and assisted us in spotting some of them in their environments. (At Fogg Dam, he spotted a pair of Barking Owls in a tree and helped us locating them and getting photographs). He also took excellent photographs of the sights along each tour, and sent them to the participants. We had an enjoyable time chatting with Geoff over lunch at the Humpty Doo Hotel. His love for the Darwin area and desire to share his extensive knowledge of it made this a a very enjoyable experience. We highly recommend this tour for birders, history buffs, and anyone interested in a beautiful adventure in Darwin.

Fabulous afternoon/sunset tour with an expert wildlife spotter. Geoff’s tour was wonderful. He is knowledgeable about Darwin’s history and equally so with wildlife. Exceptional at spotting and identifying birds. He takes shots with his amazing telephoto lens and shared them with us next morning. Geoff is so friendly and attentive and spends the 5 hour trip engaging with all and taking an interest too. I thoroughly recommend this small group tour to any bird lovers. Sunset Tour to end our Holiday We chose this small group tour for our last night in Darwin and it was great. Northern Territory nature at its best. We booked this trip with LookAbout Tours because we used to go Fogg Damn forty odd years ago to bird watch and see the fabulous sunsets. We regarded it as a good way to see some Northern Territory nature and as a nostalgic trip down memory lane. We were not disappointed! Geoff was a superb guide and appreciated that we were there to reminisce as well as see some birds. The side trip to Leaning Tree Lagoon was a bonus as we saw a large variety of birds, including Jabiru Stork, Royal Spoonbill and a close up of Red Tailed Cockatoo. Fogg Damn itself was different to how we remembered it with a sealed road and viewing platforms but there were very few visitors so we virtually had the place to ourselves. The sunset was lovely and provided fantastic photographs.After the sun had set we went to Humpty Doo pub nearby where we enjoyed good beer, Barramundi and the biggest steak in the NT, There was only four guests with Geoff and we really enjoyed having a chat together after the tour.
The following day, Geoff sent us copies of his photos which was a bonus.
We would definitely recommend this trip as a great way to see Northern Territory nature in a small, friendly group.

Amazing nature tour at the sunset! What a wonderful evening tour with the LookAbout Tours! The sunset view of the Fogg Dam Wetlands is just breathtaking. Not many nature tours here go out in the evening time and I am so glad to have got on this tour and got to see the nature at its most beautiful time with animals being most active (wallabies, many birds, a mother croc, buffalos, wide pigs, etc). Our wonderful guide Geoff went extra miles to provide us an unforgettable experience; he prepared binoculars for each of us, captured our fav animals in action with his telescope and shared with us, his broad knowledge about the nature, wildlife and local history and his amazing story telling made the tour so worth it. We also had a wonderful dinner together at the end of the tour at the famed Humpty Doo Hotel; the food is delicious and we chatted like a group of friends as if had known each other for a long time I am just so happy to have found this tour company, and I am already looking forward to joining Geoff's future nature trips.read moreread less

Such A Great Night! This tour is one of a kind! Geoff our guide has so much energy, enthusiasm, and knowledge. Expect an awesome evening out. Right from pickup Geoff chatted like an old friend. First there was a tour of spots of interest in the city and surrounds, then the drive to Humpty Doo for photos with the Boxing Croc. Then onto Fogg Dam with all it's fauna especially the birdlife. Geoff made sure we saw everything! Even providing us with high quality binoculars. Many photos were taken - by us and Geoff. And we were lucky to see a Jabiru in it's nest! Sunset did not disappoint. Dinner at Humpty Doo Pub was so much fun with great food. We learnt so much about the area and NT as a whole from this tour. And I think Geoff could still have told us more.read moreread less

Wonderful insight into the natural world at the Top End. Fabulous tour showcasing NT nature, history and culture, full of variety and tailored to the interests of the group. The dam is beautiful with many wetland and other birds, wallabies (oh yes, and crocs, too). Geoff has a keen eye and encyclopaedic knowledge. Amazing Tour!! Geoff was a phenomenal guide during our trip to Fogg Dam and Humpty Doo Hotel. He tailored the trip to our interests, and had the answers to all our questions. His enthusiasm for wildlife, and stories about the local area made the tour engaging for the whole time.Perfect tour for animal lovers of any age. We will definitely use Geoff for future tours when we return to Darwin!

Friendly and Informative The guide was well informed and very pleasant, and the birds at the dam were great! So was sunset. A good dinner at Humpty Doo although we waited for ages for it to be served. Not the tour’s fault though!!read moreread less

Top End - Top Tour! The tour was interesting, picturesque. Geoff is enthusiastic, knowledgeable, energetic. Our afternoon trip to Darwin's East Point, then Fogg Dam wetlands was full of historical information and anecdotes as well as bird and scenic photography opportunities. Wonderful Sunset Tour of the Wetlands A must do tour. Geoff made us feel so welcome and very knowledgeable with lots of great stories. FANTASTIC TOUR We took the Fogg dam / Humpty Doo hotel tour in late September. What can I say , it was very enjoyable. Geoff our tour guide was terrific. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about his job . He also sent us some great photos . Amazing 5 hour intro to Darwin My first morning in Darwin was Sunday and chose this tour. After meeting the owner guide Geoff I knew I was in for a great time. I was very lucky this would be a one on one tour. As I had a few mobility issues Geoff adapted the hold tour to suit. Geoff was passionate able his knowledge and welcomed questions about places visited, Darwin WW2 and Cyclone Tracey history, flora, birds and wildlife. The tour took in Eastpoint Reserve with views across the harbour to West Point and some WW2 buildings; Nightcliff jetty and markets. At the market Geoff pointed out a great little coffee house - was nice coffee, suggested a good food stall - had yummy lemongrass prawn kebab and a great fruit/vege stall - nice mango amongst purchase (mini bus had a portable fridge to store). Onwards out of town to Howard Springs Reserve and Charles Darwin National Park for a different view of the city. Geoff is a keen photographer and took some photos of me with my camera and also did a few for me. Thankyou so much to Geoff and would highly recommend Lookabout Tours. Fabulous afternoon and sunset What an unforgettable tour! It was my first tour in Darwin and it turned out to be the best of all. Geoff was fantastic with lots of humour and knowledge about the area.I was extremely lucky in having the tour all to myself and Geoff was very generous with taking photos for me.
The landscape, birds and animals was simply wonderful and the sunset over Fogg Dam was sensational.
The meal at the hotel was delicious and a huge serving, make sure you're hungry!
