Unfortunately the visit was both underwhelming and disappointing. First impression was, nice historic building but it could do with a refresh, surely the Mint would have plenty of $$$ to keep the place looking "Minty". Upon entry there are several cramp adjoining rooms which were effectively jewellery stores offering products that, whilst beautifully crafted, were way beyond the means of the average visitor to buy. Why not sell this stuff elsewhere to free up space for something more interesting, like expanding the museum? Other rooms were set aside for people to buy gold etc. Again, this could also be done elsewhere.  Another room offered items that were closer to the average persons budget (including the obligatory made "overseas" trinkets and other junk) but the range of items offered was truly very disappointing, I was hoping to buy some special gifts here for young relatives but didn't bother. To access the museum you have to pay up and do the tour. The tour is pretty lame and overpriced and was pitched at those aged under 12. The museum was semi-interesting but I believe the Mint could do a lot lot more to showcase their history. If space is a problem, shift the jewellery stores and other services off site and reorganise the place. On our travels around WA we saw much better museums, many were even free entry!

Nice to look around, but the behind the scenes tour is a must.



It is an informative tour with plenty of exhibits and a live gold pour.

					I visited the Perth Mint intending to buy a gold coin, but I was surprised by the pricing. The coin was priced at more than twice the value of its gold content based on the current global spot price. Gold prices are transparent and updated in real time, so customers can easily compare the market value. In my opinion, such a large premium is difficult to justify and discourages potential buyers. I hope the pricing policy will be reconsidered, as people are well informed and can readily check the current price of gold before making a purchase.

					Excellent, engaging tour for all ages.The tour was fantastic and very well put together. The live gold pour held everyone’s attention, and stepping on the scales to see our weight in gold was a fun interactive touch. The historic buildings are beautifully maintained. It is a bit pricey for a larger family, but the quality of the tour makes it worthwhile.

					I really loved the Perth Mint Tour — it was both informative and enjoyable. I learned a lot about the history of the Perth Mint itself and the fascinating story of gold in Western Australia.



Highlights included seeing an incredible amount of gold on display, viewing the biggest gold coin in the world, and watching the process of how a gold bar is made and cast. Even more exciting was the chance to experience first-hand handling and lifting a gold bar — feeling how heavy it truly is in your hand was a memorable experience.



The tour also offered opportunities to buy very nice collectible coins, trade gold, purchase gold coins or bullion, and even customize a gold coin — making the experience unique and interactive.



The tour guides were remarkable, outstanding, and knowledgeable, and they also added humor throughout the tour, which made everything more entertaining and lively. The security staff, on the other hand, were very serious — blank faces with no expressions at all. Honestly, it almost felt like they were auditioning for a “most serious guard” competition, which gave us a little laugh.



Overall, I really enjoyed the tour. It was a memorable experience that combined history, craftsmanship, humor, and the sheer wonder of gold in a way that few attractions can match.

I have difficulty hearing and the sound from both presenters was reverberating and even though I was close and it was loud I could not understand a word t hey wete saying. My family also indicated the same and they gave no hearing problems. When outside the presenter was able to be heard but inside it was extremely poor. You need to sit in the stalls with a crowd and you will see what I m mean about the sound reverberating. A much better sound quality sound is required. Also the two presenters had accents and it was very hard to understand what they were saying with the poor quality sound system.

					I love my venture into Perth Mint. Highly recommend the tour. Only cost $26, and you learn lots about our Gold rush days and you get to watch a Gold pour. Sadly they don't let you take that home. Knowledgeable and friendly staff.

					Booked the tour in advance and went for a 9.30am tour on a Monday. There were about 10 people in the same tour. The tour took us through the history of the gold rush in Western Australia, as well as how the Perth Mint came about. It was interesting to see how gold and silver are mined, as well as the huge 1000kg gold coins. Like many others, I find that the highlight of the trip was the demonstration of how solid gold of about 4KG was custard and solidified immediately within 10 minutes in front of all of us. You can also customize your own aluminum, bronze, silver, gold coins. If you do not opt to go on the tour, you can still visit the gift shops in the mint, which will allow you to browse. Bullions, diamonds etc. But I'd I suggest you join the tour as it only takes about an hour and costs AUD23 per person.

					Perth mint opened in 1899 and is Australia’s oldest operating mint now. It is home to the largest gold coin in the world (cast from 1 tonne of pure gold). Unfortunately we couldn’t see the live gold pour as the melting house was out of action at the time. Today the Perth mint makes collector coins, medallions, bullion, jewellery, souvenirs etc. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Perth.

					An absolutely unforgettable experience at The Perth Mint, what a tour of the facility. What seems impressive from the outside becomes extraordinary once you step in and discover the history, craftsmanship, and sheer scale of what’s inside.



The live molten gold pour was thrilling to watch, seeing the world’s largest minted coin in person was jaw-dropping, and the display of massive gold nuggets was equally incredible. Witnessing such rare natural treasures up close gives you a whole new appreciation for the scale and beauty of gold.



The guides were knowledgeable, engaging, and fun. From gold rush history to modern minting excellence, everything was presented brilliantly.



Fun part - weighing / measuring your worth in gold 😁

A must-visit in Perth — unique, iconic, and far more memorable than expected. Highly recommended.

Live gold pour is very cool. Not much to see here if you do not get the tour as you are limited to the front retail area were they just sell coins and jewelry. Tour gets you behind the scenes into the foundry and some excellent displays including the 1 tonne gold coin and chance to handle a gold bar.

					Love this place! Joined one of their 1-hour tour and had a great time. It was very interesting to see how minting coins and the technology behind production of gold and silver have changed so much. It’s a different level compare to our everyday coin.

She steered me in the right direction of the tour that just started.

David, our tour guide was very knowledgeable and informative. He didn't rush the group and gave us enough time to take photos.

Much of the time is spent freely perusing the exhibition, which is far more enjoyable than being shepherded around the small space as a group. Our guide, Maddie, did a terrific job of introducing the tour, providing the history and psyching up the group for the gold pour. Guests seemed to particularly enjoy the  "weight in gold" exhibit and the opportunity to press your own souvenir coin. I also liked the Argyle pink diamond centre, even if my bank account did not.



My only criticism of the venue is that it is somewhat lacking in facilities. There are two toilets at the gate, rather than in the building (with disabled facilities available elsewhere) and there is no café. This part of Perth seemingly has a dearth of cafés open on a Sunday, so the chance to buy a drink and sit somewhere would be a welcome addition. 



All in all, the Perth Mint tour is a unique and informative way to pass an hour or two - just make sure you bring your own refreshments as needed.

					The mint tour was very enjoyable. The presentation about the history of gold was interesting, but the highlight was the demonstration of gold melting and casting.



We were especially pleased with the opportunity to strike our own coin. You can also have a custom coin made with your own design, or purchase gold and silver bars, coins, and jewelry. A real wow moment is the largest coin in the world, which they have on display.



I recommend booking the tour in advance, as it is very likely to be fully booked on the day you plan to visit.

					Three cheers for Madeline, who led our guided tour. Love her style of presentation, very funny and animated. Can tell she is a very professional and competent narrator. The Mint was a great place to visit, great to see the gold ones and coins. As many have mentioned, the gold melting and pour was a fantastic highlight of the guided tour. 					We really loved the tour. There is not much too see if you don’t pay to join the guided tour, which is about 22 dollars or so, but it’s money well spent, and you will get the chance to see the 1 tonne $,1000,000 gold coin! My parents enjoyed the show (the tour guide will melt the gold in front of you) as well :)

					The tour was fantastic, seeing Sophie pouring molten gold to form an ingot was something I'll remember for a long time.

among the other highlights was the giant 1 tonne $,1000,000 gold coin, with a current value of $214,000 000, and the chance to lift   a 2.4 kilo gold bar

					A very informative and interesting place to visit. We did the mint tour, shout out to our guides Nicole and Dakota, they were very knowledgeable, professional and engaging. We loved the interactive activities but the highlight was definitely the 1 tonne coin. Worth a visit.

					Great tour with informative talk by our guide George. The gold pouring part is definitely the highlight. Being able to take home your own minted coin is a nice touch too. Very popular so don’t just turn up - book online if you want to choose when you get on a tour. Plenty of very expensive options to give as presents for that special person!!!

We needed a tour to fill in a free morning and we decided on the Perth Mint. It was a great decision. The building itself is beautiful. We were a little bit early, so we had a wander through the jewellery shops. Gorgeous to look at, but not on my shopping list for that day. We also had a look through the gift shop, which was much more at our price level. The tour started outside with some interesting historical information about the goldrush in Western Australia and the beginnings of the Perth mint. The best part of the tour was the demonstration of the gold pour. Riveting! After the gold pour we had a look through the small museum where we were able to press our commemorative token and even find out how much our weight was in gold. This is a well timed, centrally located, short tour.

I booked in advance via the Mint website. The group was large. Our tour guide – and I am sorry I don’t have his name – was a nice young man who gave us a lot of information and also did the gold smelting part. I definitely recommend this tour. The only downside were the other people in the group   impatient to get to the weighing, and pushing and shoving to get to their seats. And it’s unfortunate that there’s nothing on the Mint website about the sculptures in the front yard, and especially the lovely floor mosaic. I would like to refresh my memory about it, but there is nothing.

I booked ahead on Viator. Just like Sovereign Hill, it has a gold pour and those scales that measure your weight in gold. I’m increasing in value. You can mint your own coin and if one is not enough you can buy extras for $2 each. You can also dress up in heat protective clothing, there’s a little dress up station just outside the building.
