Tour Details and Availability
- Daily departures: Tours run every day at 11:30 am.
- Advance bookings: Tickets must be purchased at least 24 hours prior and can be booked up to 12 months in advance.
- Group sizes: Intimate experiences designed for a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 14 guests.
Booking and Cancellation Policy
- Reservations: Bookings are essential and subject to availability.
- Age requirements: As alcohol is served, all tasting participants must be over the age of 18 years.
- Cancellations: There are no refunds for cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice. A 50% refund is offered for cancellations made with a minimum of 24 hours’ notice.
- Dietary needs: Please advise of any dietary requirements at the time of booking.
- Children: Due to the service of alcohol and the intimate nature of the tasting, children must be supervised by an adult inside the Penfolds Cellar Door or Magill Estate Kitchen at all times while other adults attend the tour.

A beautiful winery that's surprisingly close to the city. Even if you're just driving past, the vineyards and scenery are stunning. The estate is elegant, peaceful, and definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. I'd love to come back next time to enjoy a wine tasting and spend more time exploring.

It was a last-minute decision to visit Penfolds Cellar Door on a Monday morning after driving past unexpectedly and turning around to go back for a wine tasting… and what a great decision that was! After being welcomed in by friendly staff, we were met with Zack our cellar door host, who guided us through a wine tasting and went above and beyond to enhance our Penfolds experience! Zack’s knowledge of the history of Penfolds, to grape varieties, then to sensory notes of flavours and then everything else in between was outstanding. He pointed out specific flavours in the wine that otherwise might’ve been overlooked. The flavours of Penfolds wine is premium, very reputable. Zack made all the complexities of wine very easy to understand and that in itself was so valuable. We tried the “daily tasting” this visit, but because we had an amazing experience this time round, we will be coming back for the ultimate tasting next time we visit the Adelaide region! After visiting many wineries through Tasmania, Victoria & SA, Penfolds and their service was easily a top percentage experience. So a very special thanks to Zack who gave my partner and I a very personal and positive tasting - we left with great wine to take home 🙌🏼

I liked that they had various tasting menus at different price points; opportunity to go really fancy if you wanted. I enjoyed the white flight which surprisingly included a Penfolds Champagne (very enjoyable).
Great location just outside of Adelaide city - close enough to catch an affordable Uber/Didi to and from. The view from the Cellar Door is pretty overlooking the vineyard.
The Restaurant seemed very popular- saving that for next time.

Quite an experience Our tour includes a behind-the-scene peek into the cellars and the very original Grange Cottage with lots of unknown stories and fun fact. It's very informative and enjoyable. Our guide Rebecca from Taiwan is very sweet and considerate. Very patient with our 'stupid' questions too. The tour ends with a fine dining lunch at the restaurant which has wine pairing. After years of drinking wine without truly understanding it, I finally had my "aha!" moments during this tour. Went to the Penfolds cellar door for a tasting and left a bit disappointed. The range of wines available to taste was pretty limited, which was not what I expected. I actually ended up going to the restaurant and spending more there just to try the wines I was interested in.
Service was a bit hard to read, hm....not rude, just not particularly welcoming either. It didn't really feel like a memorable experience😑.
Honestly, I would probably recommend the restaurant over the cellar door.

Penfolds Maghill Estate – It’s a Must Do! We came on a tour and the tour was exceptional, the staff at Penfolds did everything to ensure our visit was amazing and memorable. We ordered the additional Grange and Bin 707, and the Grange was as good as you’d expect. However, we did try the Maghill Estate 2023 Shiraz and that blew our mind! So much so, we bought a bottle and it was amazing!It was an intimate wine tasting with just of us and it was rather, tranquil.
If you like Australian red wine, you have to do a pilgrimage to Penfolds, you will not regret it.

Don’t Miss the Iconic Penfolds Maagill Estate tour and wine tasting and lunch Beautiful and historic property shown and explained to us by wine and Penfolds history expert Rick. Learned about how Mary Penfold was well ahead of her time and created the Australian wine industry. The tour of the property was followed by a generous and informative tasting of Penfolds’ top end wines including its exclusive Grange (delicious). The tour concluded with a delicious three course lunch in The Kitchen. Orlando was our waiter and guide and each dish was more delicious than the next. Very grateful to fabulous ‘Rebecca’ for an amazing Heritage Tour of Penfolds today🌟. We learned so much about the Penfolds history, and what goes into winemaking. Rebecca was knowledgeable and entertaining and you could ask questions.

Exceptional tour and tasting - we opted for the “ultimate” Penfolds experience which was more expensive but completely worth it. We spent 2+ hours touring the property and learning about the Penfold family and wine production. Henry our tour guide was absolutely fantastic - professional and knowledgeable. We had a such a fantastic time at the Penfolds Magill Estate 🍷 We booked the Ultimate Experience which was exceptional and was made even more exclusive as it was just the 2 of us in the group. We were lucky enough to have Ivan as our wonderful guide where his passion, knowledge and courtesy allowed us a very special glimpse into the history of Penfolds wines. We did a tour here at penfolds last week and it was absolutely exceptional. Our guide, Henry, was knowledgeable, engaging, and made the entire experience feel personal and memorable. He shared fascinating insights into the history of Penfolds, the winemaking process, and the heritage of the Magill Estate in a way that was both informative and fun. He was such a genuine and caring character and was delighted to see us return the next day.

We did the Iconic Experience and it was worth every penny. Gigi was our tour guide and she was amazing, and very engaging.
The wine tasting was so good, and such a great variety. The 3 course meal couldn’t have been better. The staff were incredibly friendly and great to talk to. I would highly recommend this as a must do when visiting Adelaide.

We arrived at the Penfolds cellar door at 5:30pm, when they were already closing up, but Tamara’s warm welcome turned what could have been a missed opportunity into one of the highlights of our day. She graciously offered us a wine tasting while we waited for our dinner reservation at the restaurant, and her patience, deep wine knowledge, and genuine passion for sharing Penfolds’ story truly shone through.

This is a world-class vineyard with one of the longest history in Australia. When people talk about the best red wines in Australia, they always mention it's from South Australia. In South Australia, Penfolds is probably the most famous vineyard.
It's my first visit to Penfolds today. It's so beautiful that I have taken photos as much as possible to record everything that I saw. Will be back again for their Magill Estate Kitchen as they offer one of the best dining experience in town.

Great Wine Experience Great experience at Penfolds. We did the tour and added an additional tasting as we had plenty of time to relax there as we waited for a late night flight. Our tour guide was Ivan and he was very knowledgable and friendly. It was a pleasure to discuss the wine with him and learn more about the history of Penfolds and their winemaking processes. Inaugural visit to vineyard. Booked for 2 person schedule guided tour 2 days in advance. On the day of arriving, we were told the tour merely two of us, thus becomes a personal tour lead by a soft spoken gentlemen, Mr. Yu Chen.
Being a wine rookie, Yu Chen has been very helpful in navigating the tour, without much of jargon’s, from the art to the science of winemaking. At the end of tour session, get to taste multiple selection of white and red wine.
Again, thank you Mr. Yu Chen, we will have BIN 150 share with friend back home.

They offer exceptional services here - the Magill Heritage Experience is a good choice if you want to stay 1-2 hours trying several wines and learn a lot on Penfolds’ history. Though we booked late and there was a relatively larger group today, the crew really made us feel like home (for us are the girls speaking Chinese and they are really nice to us). Recommend, and it worths the price.

Good fun recommended visit but not the perfect package Our second visit after ?25 years. It’s a good tour but intense.Over 150 years +of history and lots and lots of wine.We found arrival poor, the 11am crowds quite large and the cellar door reception not well organized.
When we got going Ivan was very knowledgeable and our group quiet but fun.
Cellars walk good then a sit down taste of 6 decent wines ending with a drop of young Grange Shiraz 2020 which sells for $1000.
The bad bit was lunch, we were all split into tables for 2 in the Magill Cafe not the good restaurant and the menu and wines were set, no choice.
King fish starter was good, some tough beef and salad,poor sticky toffee pudding.(3Wines)
The room very busy ,noisy and the chair cold unpadded. It was good to get out and away.
At the end of December opening hours were weird due to closed periods in the Australian way of closures during high season!
I strongly recommend a short tour and eating only at the main restaurant.
But don’t miss a walk down to the historic Penfold family cottage which was not included in the walk about.
We came back to the city by public bus from near by stop it was more fun than a taxi.

Today we enjoyed a great day tour of the Penfolds McGill Estate Cellar Door. We were certainly spoilt. On arrival all the staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. We arrived early so we had coffee and cake whilst we waited for tour and tasting. Our tour guide finally arrived and I must say it was the best that I have ever experienced.we arrived back to start our wine 🍷 tasting and the experience was sensational. The choice of wine was excellent and my wife and I had pre booked a loverly lunch at Penfolds. We had a very nice first class luncheon with some beautiful selections of food with some very nice wine to go with each dish. We were certainly looked after as it was our 35 wedding anniversary and we cannot speak highly enough of the staff all the way from our arrival to our code and cake then our tour and then lunch. To all the staff including our tour guide and restaurant staff and tasting staff a very big thank you. My wife and I would definitely recommend this venue for a visit and we are sure you will not be disappointed. My wife and I would love to sat thank for your hospitality and keep up the good work to all the team at Penfolds Magill Estate Cellar Door.

An amazing experience over the Kings Birthday weekend at the estate. We booked in advance and were a group of 3 in the tour out of approx 10 pax.
Our guide Mark was knowledgeable from geology, history, wine production and wine tasting on all things Penfolds. He was extremely accommodating and personable offering a lot of insights particularly when rounding off the tour with a tasting.
I highly recommend this tour as it offers abit of history & viewing of the stunning underground cellar in an intimate setting.
Definitely a must see if you’re in the Adelaide city area.

First time in Penfold cellar, it was an amazing experience, unique and phenomenal. We visited the places with transcend experience tour and definitely it's a lot of history here, if you have the opportunity to get a tour guide around the penfold cellars, don't lost it, it's gorgeous. Josh, our wine embassador was kind and full of information during this tour.

Informative and delicious A very informative tour was followed by a tasting of six of the highlights from the Penfolds range (ending in Grange), with a bonus tasting of the Magill Estate, and then a delicious lunch with 3 matching wines (generously poured). Great Wine, Food and Tour! Touring Penfold's Magill Estate was one of the highlights on our recent visit to Australia. We chose the Iconic tour and got to spend an amazing 4 hours on the property. We walked through the production area, the cellar and even the founder's original cottage on the property and got to learn a lot about the long and illustrious history of Penfold's . Then we had an in-depth tasting of six of their premier wines and finished with a lovely and delicious paired wine lunch. Exquisite! Food was beyond excellent. Each of the 7 little snacks was out of this world. Our seven meal tasting was interesting and delicious beyond belief. Service was friendly, polished and impeccable! Ambiance was perfect and the wine pairing… Ooh La La! Thankfully, all prices include the tax and the service. Such a sensible system. Canada should wake up and follow suit! You might have to rob a bank to eat here but 100% worth the jail time. I have lactose intolerances and allergies to cod and strawberries and they have happily accommodated my issues. What a foodie experience! Kudos to the whole team! Check out the menu.

An exceptional experience all round. Staff serving us our wine were professional, knowledgeable and friendly. The wines were superb, and the share platters we had from the kitchen were tasty, generous, reasonably priced, and came out in good time despite the fact that it was a very busy lunch time. The ambience of the tasting area enhanced the experience. A great way to spend a rainy Adelaide afternoon!

We had a Magill heritage experience a few days ago with Ivan. The experience was delightful. Ivan was very professional, always happy to give complementary explanations when he felt the public was interested. During the tasting, he took great care to give all necessary details in a way that a beginner would be as satisfied as a more seasoned client. Overall, we had a wonderful time and will definitely come back.

The food is so excellent. We order three main course, a porterhouse steak, 4+ Wagyu beef and a pork cutlery and kid meal. It is recommended to order the beef in medium rare and this can improve the tender of the meat. Also the portion of kid meal is so generous.

We joined a great 2hour tour called Ultimate Penfolds Experience Tour. The tour guide is a very knowledgable and passionate lady and she can speak Cantonese as well. We visited the house of the founder and the cottage. And finally we tasted a series of wines including Grange! We love the whole journey.

Amazing tour ! We did the tour along with the tasting afterwards, Josh looked after us throughout. Amazingly informative when it came to the history of penfolds, the wine making process past and present, and a thorough knowledge when it came to the different tasting notes.
