Southwinds is a stunning classic sailing yacht designed and built in Sydney. This 3 hour experience can be hands on, an entry to see if you like sailing larger yachts, or a laid back sail in the beautiful Sydney Harbour.
Do as much or as little as you would like. No experience is necessary.
If you are onboard for the leisurely cruise, you might want to BYO drinks and snacks to enjoy while you are out.
Pickup and drop off at Manly Sailing via powerboat/short tender ride.
Important Information
Scheduling: Please arrive in sufficient time to park the car and to be ready for the start of the scheduled session time (plan to arrive ~10 mins early)
Waiver: Each participant will be required to complete a waiver before participating in a course/experience. This can be done online or at the office.
Location: Meet on the wharf at Manly Sailing, East Esplanade, Manly 2095 (ground floor of Manly Yacht Club)
Parking: Parking can be tricky. Use public transport if possible, council car parks or the car park at Little Manly Point (4 hour time limit)
Food/water: Please bring water with you. Snacks and drinks (with moderation also permitted).
Footwear: Soled shoes to provide protection for feet from sharp objects. Hard soled shoes not permitted and you will be asked to remove them.
Hat: A secure hat that can be tied on is recommended.
Clothing: Loose fitting casual clothes/active wear which will allow you to move around the boat easily. A long sleeve T-Shirt or top for sun protection.
Warm Top: such as an old polar fleece, or a light wind jacket is advised to add that extra layer if it’s chilly.
PFD (Personal Floatation Device) – we have life jackets for all participants. Young children must wear, adults can choose to wear if desired.
Sun cream: Participants should bring and use sun cream, preferably Zinc or at least factor 30+.
Secure gear bag: is required to store all clothes and gear. We will do our best to make sure students gear is secure but we do not have lock up facilities so please don’t bring valuables.
Dry clothes: Participants may get wet during the session so a set of dry clothes for afterwards is advised.

We had a 2.5-hour sailing lesson with Lucas and it was such a great experience! We sailed almost all the way to Sydney Harbour - the views were amazing. Lucas is really friendly and fun to spend time with. I’d definitely recommend giving it a try. I’m now thinking about taking more lessons to get a license :)

What a lovely experience it was on the 2hr guided tour, with Will as our tour guide. The trip was extremely enjoyable, and we learnt so much about Manly’s history and were able to visit 3 hidden treasures. The entire booking process was seamless and staff were incredibly friendly and accomodating as we had to reschedule our session a few times. Will definitely be recommending to friends and family.

Fabulous day on Southwinds with Manly Sailing Had a fantastic sail around the harbour glorious weather the return portion, back to Manly, had decent wind with was my favourite part of the day, crossing The Heads.Highly recommend this sailing venture Finn, Nicky & Toby manage professionalism and fun at the same time. Such a great experience kayaking from Manly to Quarantine beach. Our guide Izzy was lovely and chatty, and kept the whole thing very relaxed.
I booked the 1.5 hour tour and as I was in a single kayak, trying to keep up with the doubles, I think this was long enough for me! Thoroughly enjoyed the experience though and it was great to see the views of the coast and the boats from the sea.
The rest on Quarantine beach where you could grab a drink at the cafe was a nice touch and there was just enough time for a quick dip in the sea.
Would definitely recommend!

Great experience for my daughter. She's been back twice for the 3 day sailing experience because she loves it so much. The instructors were really helpful and a lot of fun. Learning to sail in that area of Manly is very safe too, as it's a sheltered bay. But once she developed her skills and confidence, there were opportunities to venture further out into the harbour. Thank you to Manly sailing and especially the instructors who made the experience so unforgettable!

Fantastic Private Sailing on the Southwinds We chartered the Southwinds for our family of four adults for a two hour sail in Sydney Harbor. This ended up being an absolute highlight of our trip to Australia! Thank you, Finn!The private charter was arranged through the Capella Hotel in Sydney, who did a wonderful job of arranging the trip and coordinating the details. While they offered several variations for the sailing, we opted for the two hour trip that included champagne and charcuterie. Finn, the skipper, had a helper (Bella), who saw to our every need during the trip—-music, snacks, taking a turn at the helm; they were wonderful and extremely friendly.
The boat itself was very nice—-so well maintained and luxurious. The views from the water were extraordinary. And we were very happy with the time we had; we departed from the Darling Harbor side of the Sydney bridge, broke out the sails halfway up the harbor, then sailed nearly to Shark Beach and turned around for the trip back. Can’t say enough about this very positive and fun experience!

My family and I booked an all day sail with an instructor and had an amazing time. We learned a lot and felt comfortable in gusty conditions on a blustery day. Lucas was super patient and relaxed and knew how to keep our 11 year old involved handling the main sheet. Would love to come back on day.

Jumped on a for a Twilight Friday Sail and had a great time laid - back and well organised this is a great venue and crew to sail with. We had first time sailors and some more experienced crew so everyone got hands on and the weather treated us well indeed.
Good : The boats are well cared for and in good nick.
Better: the owners are close at hand and take a personal interest so clients and staff know they are supported.
Best : The approach to social sailing and the adaptability to sailors needs physical mental and psychological is better than all nearby clubs. Many sailing set the benchmark.

Must book this I booked the 3 hour luxury yacht experience as a gift for my Dads 70th birthday. Manly sailing was very accomodating and made arrangements for myself and father to attend today. It was an excellent experience and highly recommend if you are visiting Sydney to book with Manly Sailing either as a solo or group adventure .
The Yacht was presented in immaculate condition and very well looked after. Southwinds was beautiful to look at and very fun to sail.
Finn included everyone in sailing the Yacht and we got hands on experience. He did a great job at coaching everyone and made it fun. Other crew members onboard also friendly and welcoming.
Overall It was a fun, enjoyable and relaxing experience sailing out in the ocean, we even spotted a whale. We were lucky to have great weather, perfect seas and wind as we sailed through the heads and out to sea.

Sydney Harbour Cruise in Style We had a lovely 4 hour winter cruise around Sydney harbour on classic sailing yacht Southwinds with 3 families, incl some teenagers. It was the perfect way to get up close with some of the famous landmarks, and explore the various bays around the harbour at a leisurely pace.We were picked up from the wharf in front of our accommodation which was an ideal start. A tender shuttled us to Southwinds.
The skipper and his crew made us feel very welcome. We had chosen to 'self-cater' and our wines and nibbles were served in style, making for lovely sundowner drinks.
It was a calm day with hardly any wind, but that did not bother us. It made for a very comfortable cruise with great photo opportunities and we even had some playful dolphins on the bow.
Very memorable experience for our family. We hope to be back in board in the future.

What a superb experience. Having sailed in various boats and yachts over the last 60 years and having last sailed my windrush catamaran a decade ago, it was fantastic to take my wife sailing. Izzie our captain/instructor was the perfect, knowledgeable sailor extraordinaire and with an international crew from around the world, was a lot of fun.

Our group or 9 went on the kayak tour recently and we loved it! We went on the 3.5 hour tour of the harbour with stops at 3 different beaches.
Lewis, our guide, was very knowledgeable and helped create an awesome experience for us. He had answers to all our questions and shared many interesting facts with us. He made our tour way better and made sure all of us had an awesome time!
The beaches were awesome and it was fun to go to more exclusive areas in the harbour.
Make sure to wear sunscreen!!

went for the two hour kayak tour, was so lovely, had the American from Chicago(?) guy taking us out, unfortunately can’t remember his name but was very impressed with his knowledge of the area and attentiveness.
it was a birthday trip for me, so it really meant a lot, as someone who had done a lot of water sports this was a walk in the park, but my partner who was a bit scared of open water was rest assured very well - a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend!

Just do it A very good operation and overall good value. Whether a novice or seasoned sailor this is what you should do if you’re in the Manly area. No better way than to get straight out on the harbour and best to launch from Manly. You can fully participate or watch and good for a family or friends

I have done a few things now with Manly Sailing and I highly recommend. I did the passage from Manly to Port Stephens (for the Port Stephens regatta) over 2 days in April this year on Solace with Xavier, it was a great opportunity to spend some time offshore, getting used to the boat while enjoying great scenery (and dolphins encounters). This got me hooked to sailing and I continued with the IYT Competent Crew course over 2 weekends, where I learnt so much. Thanks to Xavier and James for their great teaching and for the positive energy throughout the course. And thanks to Nicola for all the advice on the different pathways and for providing me with my first sailing experience in the harbour on Aqualuna, it was such a great introduction!

Manly Sailing School, Port Stephens Delivery. Port Stephens boat delivery was my first offshore experience with Manly Sailing. It was a great weekend for all who embarked on the trip which overnighted in Newcastle with plenty of hands on experience at the Helm or handling the sails. Xavier and the team are very willing to share there knowledge and make us all better sailors. I started sailing with Manly sailing last year and really have enjoyed getting into cruiser sailing with them. I don't think there is a more exciting way to explore the Sydney Harbor than through a 3-hour sailing experience. Our instructor and guide Daniel did an excellent job answering questions about sailing, instructing our group in basic sailing principles, and making sure to take action to keep us safe. Daniel made sure to check that the group on the sail boat was comfortable and that we all had the opportunity to man the tiller and to assist with other duties.
We also had another instructor, Nicola, join us on the boat who was also extremely knowledgeable about sailing and shared her local knowledge of the region around Manly Harbor.

We went sailing in Sydney Harbour today, and it was definitely an experience to remember. Erin was our instructor, and she made the experience fun and relaxing. She let us be as involved as we wanted. I trimmed the sails while my husband skippered the boat! It is a great experience for visiting sailors of all levels, including first-timers, who want to do a bit of sailing without renting an entire boat. I highly recommend this experience to anyone!

I was so excited and my partner went for his first sailing lesson ever. Finn did the best to comfort us and we were able to tack and gybe with tricky wind at the end. Thank you so much!!!!
