As someone who has participated in wine tastings both in Australia and Argentina for many years, I was genuinely looking forward to our visit to Tulloch during a family holiday in the Hunter Valley.

Unfortunately, our experience fell far below expectations and became one of the most disappointing winery visits I have ever had.

Earlier that day, we visited another winery that welcomed our family beautifully. They provided a private tasting space, cheese platters, activities for the children, and staff who made us feel relaxed, comfortable, and genuinely welcome. It was a wonderful example of hospitality.

At Tulloch, however, the atmosphere was entirely different.

We arrived with a group of adults and children, and like many parents will understand, one of our toddlers was having a difficult moment. By the time we reached the tasting room, he had already settled, and we were ready to enjoy the experience. Instead of being welcomed and guided through the tasting, we were met with an approach that felt cold, confusing, and surprisingly unaccommodating.

The tasting format was never clearly explained. Rather than introducing the wines or guiding us through the experience, we were presented with a long list of names and asked questions that seemed to assume we already understood the system. Wine tasting should be about discovery, conversation, and enjoyment. Instead, we felt uncomfortable, confused, and as though we were being tested rather than hosted.

What disappointed me most was not the wines themselves, but the lack of warmth. Hospitality is what transforms a tasting into a memorable experience. Throughout our visit, we never felt welcomed, relaxed, or encouraged to enjoy ourselves. The interaction felt awkward and at times almost judgmental.

I completely understand that not every winery is designed to be family-focused, and that is perfectly acceptable. However, every guest deserves to feel welcomed and guided, regardless of whether they arrive as a couple, a group of friends, or a family with children.

Sadly, we left feeling relieved to be leaving rather than wishing we could stay longer. For a region renowned for its hospitality, that was particularly disappointing.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience has stayed with me long after the holiday ended, and unfortunately not for the right reasons.

I highly recommend the Tulloch Wines Hunter Heroes Wine Tasting with Local Cheese and Charcuterie Board experience. The wines were beautiful and the cheese and local produce were delicious.

This winery was one where the staff alone sold this place. Every staff member was helpful and happy. Their motivation and good cheer was contagious and our young girl that helped us 'Faith' was sensational. We had a party of 6 booked and surprised them with another 2 persons in our group and they were more than accommodating.
The wines were delicious and some of the special editions were WOW. Of course, we did not leave empty handed.

We had a lovely afternoon tasting wines in the Tulloch Winery. Dave took the time to explain the wines, adding own experiences and stories and keeping our 6 year old daughter entertained with colouring pages.
The wines are excellent, something there for every taste and every budget.
Pity they do not deliver to Europe… but they are working on it!

Best family friendly vineyard! We loved our ‘Hunter heroes wine tasting’ with Maddy! We added the tasting for our 5 + 7 year olds and it was definitely a highlight of our trip! Myself and my family had such an amazing time here, this is my 2nd time coming here mainly as they are one of the few that offer the kids tasting boards. I stayed in the hunter and this beautiful winery was the only one we visited as we knew the staff are great, the wine is divine and the atmosphere very welcoming and beautiful. A special mention of Dave who was very knowledgeable about wine and the winery and had made the experience so memorable for us all. We even stayed around on the outside area as it was a beautiful day and there were some activities the kids could enjoy while we played with them and lounged around. I'll definitely be back as this winery is a great experience. Thankyou guys.

Perfection Poured, Every Time I’ve been a member at Tulloch for around 15 years now, and I can honestly say I’ve never had a bad drop. Sure, there’ve been a few wines that weren’t my personal pick — but only because there were others I loved even more.

On our drive back from Brisbane to Sydney, my wife and I booked a 1pm tasting and ended up leaving a couple of hours later, happily lingering over an incredible lineup of wines (including some real treasures from the museum collection) paired with delicious local cheeses and chutneys.

Despite it being smack in the middle of school holidays — and the day after what must’ve been a huge public holiday crowd — Dave Salmon couldn’t have been more welcoming. He guided us through Tulloch’s magnificent collection with enthusiasm, knowledge, and genuine passion, introducing us to a few gems we hadn’t tried before (or at least not in quite some time).

Tulloch perfectly blends tradition and innovation — an eclectic mix of classic varietals and fresh, modern styles, all served up in a beautiful, contemporary cellar door that still holds true to its heritage. If you appreciate great wine, whatever your budget, do yourself a favour: drop in to Tulloch and savour the experience.

amazing service, great location, recommend highly! We visited as a group of 4 families with 9 kids ranging 1-6yo. We rang ahead (luckily) and at short notice they were able to offer wine tasting for 4 adults and 6 children at 10am .. which was unreal. Maddy was an absolute pro, held the kids attention and took them on an unchaotic and exciting tasting adventure of drinks and snacks and goodies. She has a wonderfully engaging personality with a clear delivery and friendly laugh.
Then the adults took a turn enjoying lovely wines while the kids were happily occupied on the lawn which Maddy suggested we enjoy in the sun with some jenga, bowls and laughs.
The service and venue were top notch, we were glad we rang ahead of course and felt welcomed from the moment we arrived. The boys happily ordered a case of wines for home as the wine, the main event, was excellent.
Highly recommend, and book ahead if possible.

It was our first time visiting for wine tasting, and we were warmly welcomed by the staff, who took great care of us with detailed explanations and engaging interactions. A special thanks to Kylie for her thoughtful attention to our puppy. We also really loved the design of the tasting menu. Overall, it was such a delightful experience, and we will definitely be back next time.

Very informative session The wine tasting was very informative but I find that charging a tasting fee which isn’t refundable when you purchase some wine is a bit pricey. The lady conducting the tasting knew her stuff and gave us a very balanced brief on each & every wine.

Sensational Last weekend we drop in without a wine tasting reservation and we were kindly looked after even through they were busy. I was really impressed with the service and wine selection. We left with only a few bottles but less than a week after our visit I purchased by first 12 bottle online after opening a bottle. I can’t wait to open the other bottles because I’m sure I’ll be ordering more!!!

Kylie alone was 10/10 My husband and I visited for our first wedding anniversary for wine tasting and a lovely charcuterie board. Firstly, I need to mention that we took our 10 month old daughter along and everyone was so incredible at accommodating this for us.
When we were seated we were greeted by Kylie who is SUCH an asset to this company. She was utterly fantastic. Dave was also working and answered many questions we had about the wines. We actually cannot fault both of these staff members. Kylie in particular was amazing. She’s a real credit to Tulloch Wines. Maddy and Tullochs - sensational for wine tasting! We had a wonderful wine tasting today with Maddy, she is so friendly and professional and really knows her wines. From how long a wine has spent in French oak to bottling and how a wine feels on the palate. The cheese board was delicious and she even gave us details for the local producers of everything. I cannot recommend highly enough. Make sure you ask for Maddy 🤩

We had a fantastic tasting experience at Tulloch! Kylie was incredible—she kept our kids (ages 4, 6, and 8) happily entertained, allowing my husband to fully enjoy the tasting. The kids' tasting option is such a brilliant idea! Kylie also seemed to be a mind reader—she somehow knew exactly which wines weren’t for us, and recommended only the ones we loved. It honestly felt like she knew our taste better than we did!
Highly recommend a visit—we'll definitely be coming back. We ended up purchasing more than five wines we truly enjoyed! Big call given normally we are tied to only red from the Barossa but Kylie knew what reds we should try that we enjoy. We want to take you home Kylie!!!

We had a fantastic wine tasting experience at Tulloch. We felt very welcome and were well attended to by the staff. It was great to compare the different vintages of their Shiraz and they have so many great wines it was hard to pick which ones to take home!

Tulloch - definitely one of the best Always a pleasure to visit especially if you like big bold reds. They certainly don’t disappoint. The staff are so warm and welcoming. The wines are superb. Didn’t know charcuterie board was available with tastings though. We will do that next visit. We had a most enjoyable time and managed to take quite a few with us. Superb experience at Tulloch Wines! The staff were very friendly and accommodated all guests, including children and vegetarians. They also replenished our crackers a few times and topped up beverages for our children, free of charge. It was lovely to learn so much about all the different types of wines they produce. I purchased a bottle of the late-picked verdelho and I can’t wait to crack it open. Thank you again to the staff! We can’t wait to be back again.

He was so knowledgeable and friendly, and he picked excellent wines to suit everyone's taste. We all left very happy and everyone bought quite a few bottles. Thanks Bobby for a beautiful experience. We were also treated to some suprise extras and the knowledge passed on was wonderful. I would highly recommend this experience as it was a really one on one tasting. Third time to the HV but first time to Tulloch, we will be back.

We absolutely loved our tasting experience. They were very generous and gave us more than the allotted 6 wines and we paid a few extra dollars to taste some aged museum collection wines and they were amazing - i recommend doing this to get a sense of how the wines will age. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. They allowed our dog to join us on the verandah. Definitely one of the highlights from the Hunter Valley.

Popped in to make the yearly purchase but stayed for an amazing tasting. We were glad we came early and were thankful for being squeezed in since we didn’t have a booking. Our tasting was individually personalised and we truely appreciated the expertise, professionalism, and genuine hospitality and banter from Leo. We only wish we could hang out with him for the day! Tulloch wines are always delicious and have a range to suit all tastes and exceedingly affordable. The atmosphere is enjoyable, spacious, with interactive decorations and areas for many groups. They are very accommodating to children and doggos. We always love visiting and we’ll return every time we’re in Pokolbin!

Tulloch is an amazing cellar door , we attended our first time and loved every wine. Staff are wonderful and friendly , the open fire in winter is a real treat also. We became members after our first visit and go back often for members tastings. Recently attended our first members lunch at hunters quarters and it do not disappoint , amazing community. We visited Tulloch Vineyard & cellar door for testing first time . Just want to try something different each time when we are here for our Sydney weekend away. I must say we were impressed by Leo . He was knowledgeable and very friendly. His background is French so he could explain well with different wine regions with his backgrounds . We bough the Verdelho & Sangiovese wines to try. We loved the testing experience, it was in details. The property was pretty and welcoming. We sat next to the fire & it was so nice and warm . I would definitely recommend this vineyard to anyone who visits the Hunter.

The Mystery Wine Tasting experience at Tulloch Wines in the Hunter Valley was just fabulous. Our hosts were knowledgeable and friendly, the wines on tasting were delectable and the cheese and meat platter served was fresh and flavourful. The cellar door is also very pet friendly. Booked in a last minute wine and chocolate tasting here and so glad I did! From the minute we walked in the staff were so friendly and welcoming. A lovely blonde lady looked after us and explained to us the different wine & chocolate pairings and she was so knowledgeable. Her favourite was the raspberry and in the end it was mine too (along with white chic macadamia) Will recommend this winery to anyone who visits Hunter Valley.

Amazing and beautiful experience. We bought a wine tasting package (Mediterranean Summer Wine Tasting Experience with Seacuterie Board). I absolutely loved the Mediterranean platter, and the wine was immaculate. The mussels, sardines, olives and crackers and to die for.

Mark has such great knowledge. He was always available for questions and checked in with us frequently. He truly guided our experience and made us feel comfortable.
I definitely recommend anyone who goes to hunter valley to try this experience.

Lovely spot, great staff and kid friendly This was the only winery in the area I found that offered a kids tasting board, so the kids were happy while adults tried some wines. It included different juices etc and snacks. Adult tasting options were great and we enjoyed the cheese and meats board and the seacuterie. Staff were so helpful.

Wine tasting with Maddy The highlight was the service provided by Maddy, she was extremely friendly and welcoming, she had great energy and her knowledge of wine was really strong. Her communication level wasn’t overbearing, she kept it at the right levels. Overall we felt welcomed and had a great time.

How nice to do a wine tasting and find wines you love even better when the person presenting, explaining and teach you is just a bloody lovely person, Rebecca your just the best. I’m sure when we get back to Queensland and the cartons arrive we will be drink cold wine in the hot sun and talk about your travels and your photos. This is a fantastic winery with brilliant staff that love what they do and that shows.

Such a beautiful venue rich in history. Great tasting wines and a rustic tasting room. If it's raining, this is the venue you want to be at. Sitting on the terrace with the rain is awesome. Be sure to check out the old restored truck downstairs. Plenty of parking onsite. Wheelchair access is more than ample.

Cellar door Incredible! If you are in the hunter I would suggest you cannot miss the friendly, perfect, personally tailored wine tasting experience at Tulloch. Mark our host was knowledgeable and was the first to tailor our tasting after enquiring what we like. Suffice it to say I joined the club oh and the setting is dog friendly, with comfortable seating in a stunning setting. Not to be missed! Well done Tulloch!

Something for the whole family! A great introduction to wine tasting! Since I was not too sure about the etiquette of wine tasting, I decided to opt for the Wine and Chocolate pairing set and it was amazing- everything from the presentation to the helpful information provided. I chose this winery since it offered options for my non-drinking husband and daughter. The kombucha options were different from the supermarket ones and I thoroughly enjoyed them as well. My daughter loved exploring the 'drinks and snacks/lollies' and got busy with the colouring activities that had been set up for her. I think it might have been better if the tasting experience were in a more authentic area than the restaurant like seating area but maybe that depends on the type of winery tour. Overall, highly recommended for families!
