Day 1: Yulara/Ayers Rock to Uluru

Your adventure kicks off after lunch when your guide will pick you up from Ayres Rock Airport or Ayres Rock Resort Yulara. Heading straight into Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park, we dive deep into the heart of the land’s rich culture at the Aboriginal Cultural Centre, where you’ll uncover powerful stories, ancient traditions, and the true significance of this sacred place. After soaking up this cultural magic, prepare to be wowed by a guided walk around the base of Uluru—one of the world’s most iconic natural wonders. As you stroll, your guide will reveal the secrets behind ancient rock art, sacred waterholes like Mutitjulu, and the legendary Aboriginal tales of Kuniya the python and Liru the venomous snake.

The journey continues to Kantju Gorge, home to Central Australia’s tallest waterfall (when the rains have been kind) and mysterious sacred caves that once served as a natural pantry for the local Aboriginal people. As the day winds down, settle in for a delicious dinner while soaking up one of the planet’s most jaw-dropping sunsets over Uluru. It’s a picture-perfect moment you’ll want to treasure forever!

Day 2: Uluru to Kata Tjuta to Kings Canyon

Sunrise seekers, get ready to rise and shine! Your early wake-up call leads to an absolutely unforgettable moment as we kick off the day before dawn to catch the spectacular sunrise at Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Watch in awe as the first golden rays light up the mighty Uluru, painting the landscape with magic.

Next, we venture to Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) — a stunning collection of dome-shaped rock formations that feel straight out of another world. Lace up your boots for either the thrilling Valley of the Winds or the scenic Walpa Gorge walk, both packed with jaw-dropping views and moments that’ll leave you breathless.

After soaking in all the wonder, we’ll head back to camp for a well-deserved bite for lunch, before journeying on to the Kings Canyon region. Along the way, a fun surprise stop at Mount Connor, aka “False Uluru,” where you can snap some photos and stretch your legs. Arrive just in time to witness yet another mind-blowing outback sunset. Cap off the day with a cozy traditional campfire dinner, serving up an authentic taste of the Australian outback under the starry sky — pure magic!

Day 3: Kings Canyon to West MacDonnell Ranges

Rise and rally – it’s time to conquer the mighty Kings Canyon! We’re diving deep into the ancient, sacred lands of the Ulpanyali and Lilla people, where every cliff and crevice holds a story. So grab your water bottle, lace up those hiking boots, and get ready – Kings Canyon is calling.

With its soaring sandstone walls, dramatic ridges, and epic lookouts, this is the ultimate outback playground for nature lovers and adventurers alike. If the conditions are right, we’ll take on the iconic Rim Walk – or the most seasonally suitable section – for a hike that’s as rewarding as it is unforgettable.

After soaking in those sky-high views, kick back and relax as we head north on a true off-the-grid route via the Mereenie Loop or Ernest Giles Road – rugged, remote, and oh-so-scenic.

By evening, we’ll roll into our private bush camp near Mount Sonder, tucked within the majestic West MacDonnell Ranges. Get cosy for another night under the stars – with skies this clear, it’s like the universe puts on a private light show just for us.

Day 3 Highlights:

  • Kings Canyon Watarrka National Park
  • Mereenie Loop Drive (or Ernest Giles Road, depending on conditions)
  • Spectacular stargazing in the West MacDonnells

Day 4: Tjoritja West MacDonnell Ranges to Alice Springs

Wake up surrounded by the towering red cliffs of Ormiston Gorge and fuel up with breakfast in this jaw-dropping natural cathedral. Take a moment to soak in the sheer power of the ancient forces that carved this incredible landscape, and keep your eyes peeled for native wildlife waking up with the sun. Next, it’s time to cool off with a splash in the refreshing Ellery Creek Big Hole (Udepata). Nestled between dramatic cliffs and sandy banks, this permanent waterhole is the perfect outback oasis to recharge and relax.

Onward to Standley Chasm (Angkerle Atwatye) – a breathtaking gorge only three meters wide but soaring 80 meters high, where sunlight transforms the rocks into a fiery spectacle. It’s a dramatic playground you won’t forget. Our final stop is the iconic Simpsons Gap, another natural wonder in the Tjoritja West MacDonnell Ranges. This spot features a permanent waterhole that attracts a vibrant mix of wildlife and holds deep cultural meaning as the crossroads of several Aboriginal dreaming trails.

With your heart full and your camera packed with memories, we head back to Alice Springs, dropping you off at your accommodation. Take a moment to relive the incredible four-day adventure, swap stories with your new mates, and start dreaming about your next outback journey!

CHILD POLICY:

Children aged between 8 to 17 years old must be accompanied by an adult or legal guardian at all times. Not suitable for infants or children 7 years and under. Not suitable for infants or children 7 years and under, due to safety requirements and the level of fitness required to complete the walks.

WEATHER:

The weather in the Red Centre can fluctuate and be extreme. It is not unheard of for temperatures to reach over 50+ degrees Celsius in the dry season and in the evening the temperature drops dramatically.  Please ensure you have checked the average temperatures for the time of year you are travelling and have packed adequate clothing. In the event of rain or inclement weather, your experience will still go ahead, unless contacted by the provider.

TRAVEL CONSIDERATIONS:

FLIGHTS ARRIVING – AYERS ROCK AIRPORT (airport code AYQ)

We will do our best to meet all Ayers Rock flights. However, there may be delays if the group is exploring a key itinerary location. It’s essential that both the agent and guest verify that their flight times align with our tour schedule before booking. Lunch is not provided on Day 1, guests are encouraged to eat before joining the tour group. 

Guests arriving at Ayers Rock Airport [AYQ] on earlier flights can take the complimentary shuttle to Yulara Resort or Ayers Rock Campground and relax at the public swimming pool. Please be waiting at the pickup point on Yulara Drive at least 10 minutes before departure.

UNEXPECTED DISRUPTIONS

To avoid potential travel disruptions, we strongly recommend against customers booking departure flights on the final day of the tour. While we strive to adhere to our itinerary, unexpected delays can occur. Please note that the tour operator is not responsible for any costs incurred due to such delays. For added peace of mind, we recommend purchasing travel insurance

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • Mandatory Details: Passenger details are required at the time of booking, including: Each passenger’s first name and surname / Each passenger’s date of birth / Arrival and departure point and flight number details (e.g., AYQ / QF728 12:35 on 01/04/23) / Lead passenger’s contact phone number (international or Australian)
  • Dietary Requirements: While we endeavour to cater to most dietary needs, passengers must advise dietary requirements to their booking agent at the time of booking. As we are venturing to remote areas, we are very limited in what we can source once the tour departs, so prior notice is required.
  • Medical Conditions: Please notify the tour operator of any known medical conditions when booking. This tour is physically demanding and requires a moderate level of fitness and mobility. Personal travel insurance is highly recommended for all passengers.
  • Fitness Level: A minimum moderate to advanced level of fitness is required to complete the walks. The length of walks will be between 2 km to 4 km each day, often over steep rocky sections and in direct sunlight and high humidity. An approximate 9-11 km walk is included in this tour. Embarking on walks will be at the guide’s discretion to ensure the safety of guests. Therefore, a medium/high level of fitness is required, and a doctor’s certificate is required for participants over 75 years old, submitted at least 30 days prior to travel.
  • Age Restrictions: Children aged 8 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult or legal guardian at all times. The tour is not suitable for infants or children aged 7 and under due to safety requirements and the physical demands of the walks.
  • Mobility Considerations: This tour is not suitable for mobility-impaired travellers, including those using wheelchairs, walkers, prams, or strollers.
  • Baggage Limitations: Due to limited storage space on our vehicle, we have specific baggage allowances depending on your tour route: 
  • For Round-Trip Tours: Each traveller is permitted 1 x 15 kg travel bag and 1 x 5 kg day bag. (ie. starting and finishing at the same location) Larger suitcases should be stored at your hotel while on tour to ensure comfort and ease during travel.
  • For One-Way Tours: Each traveller may bring 1 x 23 kg travel bag and 1 x 5 kg day bag.
  • Itinerary Variations: Itineraries may vary to adapt to seasonal changes, and occasionally sites in the parks may close for cultural reasons or restricted swimming hole access. As safety is our top priority, we plan accordingly to ensure our guests have the most enjoyable and best experience possible while on tour.
  • Guest Participation: Guests are asked to participate in the preparation of meals, clean-up, unpacking, and loading of the vehicle, so everyone can relax together after a long day of touring. It’s also a great way to get to know and connect with your fellow travellers.
