This cute guy, I think his name was Lasse, his presence was so important for the kids. The kids loved him. Such a nice guy! He even suggested to put on a little pinguin costume. How sweet! Next time we hope to see him in this little costume.

An evening with penguins A fantastic opportunity to see the penguins in their own habitat. Patience is needed but with the expert guidance of the tour guide this experience did not disappoint- dress warm or you may not enjoy the experience, it was cold otherwise a wonderful memorable evening.

We had such a great time on the Bicheno Penguin Tour, and Lasse really made the experience. He is incredibly knowledgeable and you can tell he’s genuinely passionate about the penguins and the local wildlife. He shared so many interesting facts throughout the tour without it ever feeling like a lecture—it was fun, engaging, and we learned a lot.

Seeing the little penguins return to shore was such a special experience, and having Lasse guide us made it even better. If you’re thinking of doing the tour, I highly recommend it. Hopefully you’ll get Lasse as your guide too!

I really enjoyed the penguin tour so much. Sienna, our guide, was really good and gave lots of good information. We saw lots of penguins and they were so cute. I recommend trying to get a later tour to see more of them as they more come out later.

My kids and I really enjoyed the 5:30pm penguin tour. All of the guides were really knowledgeable as well as being friendly and helpful. I felt as though the guides really went out of their way to find penguins for the tour to see and made sure everyone got a chance to see them. Would definitely recommend this experience!

Such a lovely experience! We went to a late-night sighting so i wasn’t expecting to see much, especially with the knowledge that we can’t use white light. However through the excellent knowledge of the staff, we not only seen a swarm of little penguins coming up from the ocean, but also learnt so much about them.
I’m especially grateful for the young blonde girl whom had her first training shift with our group, she did so well and was very kind!
If I ever come back down this way, i’ll be sure to stop in again.

What a great experience! Seeing how tiny they are but also their courage is amazing! I would suggest a few constructive feedback points:
1. I would have happily paid double to have a group half the size we were in. I think there were roughly 15 and even just the standing and phones and talking from that amount of people kind of reduces the intimate moment the tour is known for.
2. The viewing platform (particularly the seat up the back) could be modified to be higher. We were encouraged to sit down but even then we had a blocked view with everyone in front of us - which again encouraged us to stand.
3. I think it would be better to have a brief before we get on the bus to explain the little ‘rules’ and ‘tips’, particularly the no standing, camera flash and reduced talking - once we’re off the bus out there, we’re just too excited to remember what the guidelines are. Particularly because I think a lot of the clientele might not have English as their first language.
4. On the bus before we hop off the bus driver turns the light on whilst he speaks, I know this might seem helpful to grab attention but after having our eyes adjust to the dark it’s quite abrupt and maybe unnecessary?
5. I’d be super curious to see what a “no-phone” experience would look like. It may seem like customers always want to take pictures with our phones and cameras but my gosh I think by now we all realise we’re addicted and would welcome being forced to lock our phones away for just an hour to just experience these special moments. You might increase the price that could then cover some better quality photos/videos that could be taken on the night by a ‘professional’ or just a dedicated ‘media’ person. There were moments when I consciously put my phone away because I wanted to experience the moment but still had 6 other phone screens in front of me in view all trying to capture the exact same moment. Could run this as a pilot for a few weeks and see what the feedback is like!

A Must See I absolutely loved the penguin tour. Worth every cent. The tour guides were excellent. The penguins were adorable and it’s reassuring to know that the penguins are so well looked after in their own environment.

Wonderful way to see penguins in the wild without disturbing them! Really well organized tour that is super mindful of allowing the penguins to live their natural lives while being able to study what they do.
Just trust that you’ll get to see penguins, up close and repeatedly.

No penguins! Just had our reservation canceled because there are NO PENGUINS! Money was returned but we already have paid for our lodging and that is non refundable. We would have made very different arrangements if we had known just a few days earlier that there are NO PENGUINS. We are beyond disappointed. Wanted to post this so it doesn’t happen to others.

Although my family and I went on the Bicheno Penguin Tour during a windy and rainy day, we had an unforgettably cool experience! The tour was well structured and our tour guide, Zarlie (apologies if I’ve misspelled the name), was very warm and insightful, with a great sense of humour. We learned so many interesting facts about the penguins! All the staff were super friendly and we had a lovely adventure, braving the cold to see the resilient and cute penguins. Would definitely recommend!

Zali was an excellent tour guide. Very informative. We saw two penguins approach the 2nd run.. and one penguin in the 3rd run. We saw several couples of baby penguins waiting for their parents to return with food. We also got to see the Aurora which was very special. Highly recommend this tour if you’re in town. It was als special being able to walk around the rookery to see the little homes of the various penguins.

We went during the Christmas period and had Zaliah as a tour guide, the tour and explanation from the guide was great and the facility at the beach is great. It really was great to see the protection and isolation they are trying to provide to the penguins with the low light levels and the man made burrows.
Well worth the visit.
A hint when you get to the viewing platform, try and get a front seat because if you sit in the back row like we did, you may get rude people stand up infront of you and block the view.

The bus drivers were also very friendly and welcoming, which set a great tone from the start. Overall, every team member we encountered was lovely, kind, and professional. We truly felt well looked after and would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Bicheno.

Bicheno Penguin Tours offers a very unique and educational opportunity to view up close the Blue Penguin species that lives along the Tasmanian coastline. The two hour trip, education and observation of the penguins returning from the sea to their nests was worth the drive to Bicheno from Hobart! Our energetic and knowledgeable tour guide, Matilda, was delightful and helped us get the most out of time there. Don’t miss this opportunity to look into part of Tasmania’s rich environmental heritage.

Perfect timing to see lots of penguins. We thought we might maybe see half a dozen penguins but we saw so many. We even saw a chick being fed. Ella, our guide was really friendly and informative and the warden who told us where there was action helped direct us all. Bus driver was great too.

A unique experience for my husband and I and would definitely recommend. Our guide was so friendly and informative. Despite her advice on how we needed to behave around the penguins, eg no flash when taking photos, no movement when they near us, etc there was still visitors who ignored the advice and needed to be reminded, on more than one occasion. At one stage, I reminded someone, as politely as possible, to adhere to her instructions. Amazing experience, thank you for the opportunity to view these beautiful creatures.

This tour is a must do! Everything organised easily, from booking, to transport to the rookery, to knowledgeable tour guide. The timing was perfect to see lots of penguins come in and feed their young. Value for money for sure! Thankyou.

Picturesque Penguin Parade! A great experience! I read that sometimes it’s difficult to hear the guide, and so we were first on the bus. Dane (or Dean?) was our guide and he was great. He spoke in a clear voice -there was about 15 people in our group. Andy was our bus driver. They were both great. It’s about a 15 minute drive to the beach. There are man made as well as penguin made burrows which had some chicks inside. We probably saw about 30 total penguins including the chicks from about 3 to 6 feet away. There are red lights and flashlights that the guides use because the penguins don’t mind a red light.

Excellent experience. We were lucky enough to see so many penguins in many different areas across the rookery. They were adorable and it was amazing to watch them in their natural habitat. The tour was also very informative and our tour guide, Conor, was extremely knowledgeable and really cared about the penguins. Would definitely recommend.

Absolutely must do when touristing Tasmania! The whole experience was extremely worth it.

We did the second session of the night, and in my opinion that was the best one, getting the best of seeing the penguins and getting to stay there the longest.

The guides are extremely knowledgeable, Connor knew heaps of great little facts and you could tell how much he cared for the little penguins.

Best place to see penguins in Australia! We did the tour on Monday and it did not disappoint! You are greeted by the tour guide when you get off the bus! And then guided through to see some of the penguins! Our tour guide was fantastic he answered all the questions, He really made the tour as great as it was! You are in small groups so everyone will get a chance to see the penguins! We got to see some of the nests, as well as them walk up from the ocean! I can’t recommend the tour enough ! Along with this staff are passionate about to protecting and making sure it’s a safe environment for the penguins.

We had a brilliant evening learning about these gorgeous creatures. Our guide, Dean (I think) was knowledgeable and made the facts interesting. We were given time to watch the penguins come up the beach as well as to see those who had already reached their nests. Thank you for such a fun evening. Thanks also to the bus driver who had the bus toasty warm on our return.

Amazing penguin encounter! Our family attended the penguin tour tonight. The tour was excellent! Our three daughters (age 4, 6 and 9) loved it and my husband and myself enjoyed it just as much!
Out tour guide, Connor was brilliant - very accommodating for children - perfect mix of knowledge and humour made it an enjoyable evening. Great to know they are helping increase local population numbers by providing protected area for breeding, safe from predators. I would highly recommend this experience!

When the sun slipped behind the horizon, the beach turned into a secret stage.
Under a sky dusted with stars, tiny blue penguins emerged from the waves — shaking off the sea, calling softly to each other, and waddling home in little groups.
The sound of the ocean and their gentle footsteps felt like a lullaby only the coast could sing.

We visited in early August and had a great evening. Zarli our guide was full of info and clearly loved the little penguins. A great set up where you get to see the penguins coming up onto land and see them in their homes! The penguins are really well respected (the red light means you can see them but doesn’t scare the penguins or hurt their eyes) and obviously feel safe which is great. Would highly recommend!

Amazing tour My partner and I recently had a trip to Tasmania and stopped in Bicheno for a night and booked in a tour to see the penguins. This night was definitely the highlight of the tour - we loved Bicheno and the tour. Our guide was informative and knowledgeable. We saw a few penguins come in out of the water, but only had 2 penguins come up Highway 2 (the others were still cleaning themselves before coming up to their habitats for the night) but it was an amazing experience to watch these 2 penguins walk past us. We would have been happy just seeing the swim in out of the water, and understand we were waiting for wild animals so there was a chance of not seeing any, so seeing some was great. We did see a few already in their habitats, and along the walkways, which we loved. We will certainly be back to do this tour again next time we visit Tasmania.

After boarding the bus we drove to a secret site. As we wandered around waiting for the penguins to arrive we were told many facts.

We sat on stools and watched the penguins get out of the water, climb the rocks, shake the water off, preen themselves then waddle up the track past us and into the bushy area where their safe havens were

An authentic fairy penguin tour. An authentic, intimate tour with very knowledgeable and caring hosts. Far superior to the Phillip Island mass tourism experience.

Good experience. Easy pick up from central Bicheno. Bus takes you out to penguin area. Well organised and very informative. Plenty of penguins to see, in a respectful manner. We had to sit quietly while the penguins made their way up from the ocean to their nesting boxes. Only downside was there were three busloads of people on the night of our tour. Wondering if the penguins would be a bit more forthcoming with a few less people.

I had an unforgettable experience with Bicheno Penguin Tours! November is the perfect time to visit, as it's when the penguins come ashore to nest. We saw heaps of penguins, including adorable baby chicks, and even witnessed a bit of penguin drama – some of them were clearly having a heated argument!

As an added bonus, we also spotted a wombat during the tour, which was an amazing surprise. The guides were knowledgeable and made the experience even more enjoyable with their insights into the penguins’ behavior and habitat. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area – it’s truly a must-do for wildlife enthusiasts!

For the best chance to see the penguins, I’d recommend visiting between September and January, when they’re most active onshore.

What an excellent tour! We saw many penguins across about an hour at the beach (not including the short bus trip there and back). Our guide was able to answer all the questions we had. Would highly recommend for kids and adults. Be sure to bring warm clothes!

Unique ecotourism not to be missed! The guide was amazing and up close to wild fairy penguins in their natural habitat. We had the best time!! It is the perfect length and October is in the breeding season so there were ample penguins to see. Bicheno is lovely but I came for the penguins and this tour exceeded all my expectations!
