Our tour shares with you all of the must see sites of the Freycinet National Park and Tasmania’s stunning east Coast on this highly affordable day tour.
From the doorstep of your Hobart accommodation, hop on board and enjoy the ride! Be prepared for amazing scenery, great photo opportunities, some gentle walking and lots of fresh air. Also included, informative local knowledge, historic story-telling and for no extra cost plenty of laughs and great music! That last point is open to debate!
Wineglass Bay Discovery Tours, as the name suggests gives you the opportunity to discover more!
While our main attraction is Wineglass Bay. we have included in your tour some hidden extras. Visit Rosny Hill Lookout, a vantage point from which you will be treated to expansive views of the Derwent River, Hobart City and the ever present kunanyi, Mount Wellington. Take a moment to imagine what a sanctuary this harbour must have been for the early ocean explorers. With the early settlers in mind, your tour passes through the Coal River Valley, now home to some of Tasmania’s most popular wineries.
On this route Wineglass Bay Discovery Tours gives you the opportunity to visit the historic Georgian township of Richmond. We stop at Richmond Bridge, the oldest convict constructed bridge still in use in Australia. Set in picturesque surrounds, complete with friendly ducks, the Richmond Bridge is a testament to Tasmania’s convict heritage; a man-made structure of unique beauty and timeless strength.
From Richmond we head east to the Great Eastern Drive into the township of Buckland, home to the Church of John the Baptist, built by convicts in 1846 from local sandstone. Learn the story behind its spectacular stained glass windows. Onward through farmland, forest and riverside roads we reach the East coast at Orford. Here we stop at Raspins Beach where you can enjoy majestic views across Prosser Bay to Maria Island and listen to a tale or two of the early goings-on of this little island.
Back on the Great Eastern Drive you will enjoy spectacular coastal views and pass by more pristine beaches including Spiky Beach and the convict constructed Spiky Bridge. As the mountains of the Hazards come into view you will know we are nearing our destination. After a refreshment stop at Swansea, a great place to buy lunch, it’s on to the Freycinet Peninsula.
Freycinet National Park
Here you will spend over 4 hours exploring this unique National Park including our highlight, the 45 minute walk to the Wineglass Bay lookout. It is suggested you wear comfortable shoes and bring a drink bottle of water. The track is superbly constructed and the incline is steady but walk at your own pace for the journey is as beautiful as the destination.
Be surprised by the wildlife emerging from the undergrowth, absorb the majesty of the mountains above and wonder at the balancing boulders then take a well-deserved stop halfway to catch your breath and take in the views of Great Oyster Bay. With one final ascent you will discover the beauty of Wineglass Bay. Cameras and smiles ready! Here we will spend ample time to enjoy the view before walking back as a group. If you would like to walk down to Wineglass Bay Beach, this can be arranged with your guide in advance. Bear in mind this is a steeper track requiring a higher level of fitness.
Enjoy lunch either at one of the local beaches or at one of the popular winery on the east coast. You may even encounter some of the friendly native animals (but do not share your lunch with them)! If Seafood is your fancy a stop at the Marine Farm can be arranged. Wineglass Bay Discovery Tours will then take you to locations such as Friendly Beaches. This wild stretch of coastline is a favorite spot for surfers and fishermen alike. Enjoy more spectacular coastal views from Cape Tourville Lookout. You might even spot some marine wildlife.
Discover bull kelp forests and natural rock sculptures at Sleepy Bay and find peace and tranquility at the aptly named Honeymoon Bay, a great spot for a swim if you are keen.
Truly a spectacular day of exploring! And before you decide to stay forever immersed in this beautiful place…there is ice-cream and other tasty treats to enjoy at Kate’s Berry Farm! Your guide will then return you safely to your accommodation in Hobart. Airport drop offs on return can be arranged in advance at no extra cost.

We were also very lucky with the weather. The sky was clear and beautiful all day, and it didn’t rain at all. Although we visited many locations, there was still plenty of time to walk around, explore, and enjoy the scenery at each stop.
I highly recommend this tour. It was excellent value for money
What stood out the most was the way he treated every guest with equal care and respect, making all comfortable and feeling included.
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to wineglassbay, freycinet national park, Richmond in spite of a rainy day. He didn't let a bit of rain dampen our spirits.
Don't ask me the destinations, they are breathtaking!!!! Don't think to much, book this tour and I hope you get your experience like mine, perfecto~
His knowledge and on road commentary was fantastic.
He looked our group, especially my wife who experienced very slight personal difficult at a small stage and made sure of her and our comfort.
I highly recommend this particular tour and Alex as a driver/guide and would do it again in the near future if it arises.
Thanks very much.

Grazie Alex!
Highly recommend – an unforgettable experience!
Frechinet NP and walk to lookout view of Wine Glass Bay was stunning. Despite the walk being a good 30 minutes one way, requiring reasonable fitness, it was well worth the effort. Alex really made the day, looking after all passengers and sharing his knowledge.
He proactively made sure to ask me regarding my parents' health beforehand so that they can be kept out of steep hikes due to their knee concerns. He ensured that my parents do not miss out on anything by dropping them in an excellent location at Freycinet when others including myself went for a hike to Wineglass Bay lookout.
Moreover, during the hike. Alex made sure to keep me motivated so that I do not fall behind the larger group. He is extremely friendly and i enjoyed the conversation I had with him during the Wineglass Bay hike trail.
Alex is extremely knowledgeable and went above and beyond to explain the significance of every place.
I would love to recommend this tour to all my fellow colleagues who will be visiting Tassie!.
Thanks for everything!
Alex was our guide, he made an amazing job, he gave us a lot of information about Australian animals and landscapes. He also told us about Tasmania’s history. The views were stunning. We even saw several whales breaching from one of the lookouts. There was a lot of stops on our way so we got to do so much in a day. It was really worth it.
Greetings from France and Japan!

Alex was great , def knew the area and a font of knowledge
Beautiful weather the day we did it and the stops we did were lovely and photogenic
Would def recommend this tour
There were several stops along the way and plenty of time for taking photos of beautiful Freycinet and surrounds.
At Freycinet, Alex provided options for all ages and fitness levels, but the walk to Wineglass Bay lookout was worth every step, that view is unbeatable!
Upon driving back to Hobart, we were treated to a stop at Richmond, the prettiest little town, with a delicious sweets shop.
Thanks again Alex, we highly recommend your tour!
(Ps- this review is written by a human, NOT A.I) 😊
Every stopp we stopped we had enough time, he didn't rushed us. The little hike up to the wineglass bay lockout was good too, he stopped in-between for people to have a break and it make it much easier. definitely recommend that tour .
I cannot recommend the Wineglass Bay Discovery Tour enough, especially with Alex as the guide. My friends had booked their tours months in advance, but due to my busy work schedule, I booked late in November for a December tour. When I logged onto Viator, I was disappointed to find the tour fully booked for the same date.
I reached out to Alex, and he went above and beyond to assist me. His prompt responses and genuine effort to accommodate me were remarkable. He assured me that I’d be the first to know if there were any cancellations. At one point, Alex even considered hiring a bigger bus just so we wouldn’t have to be apart from our friends. That level of service is truly exceptional!
Thanks to Alex’s dedication, everything worked out perfectly. The trip itself was fantastic—Alex’s deep knowledge of the area and his skilled driving made the experience seamless and enjoyable. We had an incredible time exploring the breathtaking beauty of Wineglass Bay.
If you’re planning a tour, this is the one to choose. Alex’s professionalism, kindness, and expertise ensure you’ll have an unforgettable experience. Highly recommend!
The tour not only provides stunning views but also insightful commentary from Alex, who shares knowledge about various points of interest along the way. His dedication to the group's well-being and his helpful nature enhance the overall experience, making it truly memorable. every moment on the tour is filled with wonder and beauty.
A heartfelt thank you to Alex for his efforts in making the tour unforgettable. I highly recommend Alex as a guide for anyone looking to explore the enchanting Wineglass Bay. His exceptional service and passion for showcasing the wonders of the area make him a standout choice for an extraordinary tour experience
Thank you Alex
Honeymoon Cove was just stunning. Lunch at Devils Corner winery, ice cream (or whiskey tasting for us) at Richmond and a dusk panoramic of Hobart from Rosny lookout topped off a perfect day.
But wait ..there was more .a drink together at a craft brewery as a little surprise.
Thank you Alex!! I loved your stories and little anecdotes of the sites we were seeing. You are a brilliant driver to! Grazie tanto ..Bravo
What a great day 🩷
Make sure you wear decent walking shoes for the hike to wineglass bay lookout. It was so worth it but it’s definitely a decent trek with lots of rock steps!
Also don’t forget your motion sickness tablets if you’re not good on windy roads in a bus.
Absolutely recommend booking this tour!
We felt very safe and relaxed with his driving too.
Favourite part of the day was seeing the massive boulders and terrain on our hike up the mountain.
AMAZING!!
We are going to tell our friends to do the tour when they visit Hobart .
