Escape the city and step into the cool, green world of the subtropical rainforest on this relaxed, small-group nature experience. Designed for travellers who enjoy quiet immersion in nature, this tour offers a deeper connection to one of Queensland’s most beautiful and lesser-known environments.
After pick-up, we travel along the winding road up Mount Glorious, where the air cools and the landscape transforms into dense rainforest within D’Aguilar National Park. The journey itself is part of the experience, gradually leaving the city behind as towering trees and thick vegetation surround us.
At Maiala, we explore a peaceful walking track through an ancient forest, where towering trees, lush ferns, and a rich canopy create a truly immersive environment. The rainforest is alive with sound, and your guide will help you tune into the distinctive calls of species such as the Whipbird, Catbird, and Wompoo Fruit Dove. With patience and a bit of luck, these birds can often be spotted among the foliage.
This is also a great place to encounter some of the rainforest’s more elusive wildlife. Along the track, we may see skinks, land mullets, or even lace monitors. Pademelons, a small and shy member of the kangaroo family, are often seen near the walking track, quietly moving through the undergrowth.
The walk is approximately 5 km and is taken at a relaxed pace over around three hours, allowing plenty of time to observe wildlife, take photos, and enjoy the forest atmosphere without rushing.
We pause for lunch and refreshments in a tranquil picnic area surrounded by nature, offering a moment to rest and take in the peaceful setting. In the afternoon, we continue on the western side of the mountain, where scenic lookouts offer beautiful views across the forested landscape and provide more opportunities to experience the diversity of this remarkable environment.
This tour is ideal for those who want to slow down, breathe in the rainforest air, and experience the sights, sounds, and subtle details that make this ecosystem so unique.

Anita has superb knowledge of the area and access to locations that you can't normally get to. The tour was tailored around our restricted walking abilities and the recent weather, which made sure we could both had a lot to look at. Which included a lot of trees, birds, fungi, mist obscured mountains, pademelons, an informative visitor's centre and two dogs that were very disappointed that we weren't staying around longer.
I did the "Bellthorpe Rainforest Tour" and it was great to see all the wildlife which is quite different from anything in Europe. If I would have had more time during my stay in Brisbane, I would without hesitation booked another tour with her!
Thank you very much for the day out in the woods :-)
Coffee and cake, then a delicious lunch completed a thoroughly enjoyable and informative day.
Maiala Rainforest. She is knowledgeable and gives plenty of opportunities to appreciate such a beautiful place! Would book her again without a second thought.
I recently had the pleasure of experiencing a day trip with Brisbane Nature Tours to Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), and it was truly exceptional. Our guide Anita crafted an experience that perfectly balanced natural beauty, cultural education, and local cuisine.
The day began with a scenic ferry ride to the island, followed by our first stop at the studio of respected local Indigenous artist Delvene Cockatoo Collins. This thoughtful introduction to the island provided valuable context about the natural materials sourced from various locations and set the tone for a day of authentic experiences.
The highlights continued with the stunning Gorge Walk, where we were treated to breathtaking coastal views. One of the most magical moments was encountering kangaroos and koalas in their natural habitat - not in a zoo, but living freely in their home environment.
Brown Lake was another standout experience. Swimming in its tea tree-infused waters was both refreshing and therapeutic. Our lunch featured the local delicacy of Moreton Bay bugs, which was absolutely delicious and perfectly showcased the region's seafood.
What truly sets this tour apart is Anita's genuine passion for the region. Her deep knowledge and obvious connections with local communities ensured we were welcomed warmly wherever we went. She provided rich context about the destination that transformed what could have been just a pretty sightseeing trip into a meaningful cultural experience.
If you're looking for a day trip from Brisbane that offers natural beauty, wildlife encounters, and cultural insights, I cannot recommend Brisbane Nature Tours and Anita highly enough. This tour is the perfect way to experience the wonders of Minjerribah with a guide who truly cares about creating authentic and respectful experiences.
