Dive Safety & Equipment
Advertised dive destinations are always subject to weather, numbers and safe diving conditions at the site. Under WH&S law in Queensland, you must carry a safety sausage and whistle. You should also carry a dive knife if there is the risk of entanglement on the dive site. Mandatory equipment is supplied in all hire equipment from Subsurface Scuba. If you require your own, these items can be hired or purchased from Subsurface Scuba on the day of your dive.
Why do we have this cancellation and refund policy?
When you make a reservation on a dive charter, administration costs are incurred and bookings are made by us with our boat, skipper and dive guides. Subsurface Scuba will hold the dive charter place for you and turn others away who would like to book onto your place. With cancellations and transfers, it is unlikely your place can be re-sold. Cancellations mid-trip are not eligible for partial refunds as Subsurface Scuba has already paid for the boat, skipper and dive guides for their service required to run the dive charter.
Required Documents
Please find attached your PADI dive medical and waiver forms. Please complete these and return them.
Have a great day and we look forward to seeing you soon.
Cheers,

They never refunded me. They no longer answer phone calls or emails. I had to open a dispute with my bank to get my money back.
Do not trust them. Terrible service.
What I don't appreciate is that by the time we got there, Steve told us again it's too big a swell to safely get out there (fair enough, safety first), but because we chose to drove the 20 minutes instead of cancel, we couldn't get a refund. I said, since we can't get a refund, let's try anyway and maybe by some miracle the swell calms down. It didn't and we drove out to the mouth of the river and back to the harbour.
I would have appreciated a text at 5:30 or 6am saying not to bother, but I didn't get that. I would have also appreciated him telling me in the car if I had chosen not to come then maybe I could have gotten a refund (because his crew wouldn't have needed to be paid).
But now I am out $300, got a quick boat ride out to see strong swell and turn back to the harbour.
To his credit, Steve even said come back tomorrow and we're almost definitely going diving. So we re-arranged all our plans again, made arrangements to come first thing the next morning but got a text saying the swell was too big again (whether that's true or not I have no idea).
I appreciate Steve and the team prioritise safety. I can also appreciate a business needs to make money in order to survive, and can't just bleed hours here and there due to bad weather. But given the nature of the business, surely you need to allow partial refunds for the people who are paying good money for an experience which isn't delivered. Just a shame...
We saw a wobbegong shark, scorpion fish, and a turtle that hung out at our dive boat all morning.
The equipment is in working order, but old. Weight belts (not integrated), my pressure gauge had no depth gauge attached, and my son’s depth gauge did not work. My BCD was only a large, and was too tight on me, even though I ordered an XL. Steve said that it was an XL if you adjusted the buckles. I dove a few weeks ago with a BCD that was labeled XL and it fit. I still dove, it was just tight. I deducted a star for the equipment.
The boat was big and the many snacks and icy drinks were far better than expected.
There were big roller waves, which made a different diver yesterday extremely sea sick. I was a little sick, but only for a few minutes. The dive ladder is tough to get up in the big roller waves.
I was concerned with the written policy of no refunds if the dive is canceled and there is no convenient time to reschedule. My dive was canceled twice due to wind (which was the right call by Steve) , and I only had three days left in my vacation. Luckily the weather improved and I got the dive in. Steve should/could offer a refund in his policy- and raise his price by 5% or so to compensate.
I’ll finish by saying how nice Steve & Ash are, and that we had a good day of diving.
My dive was cancelled due to weather the night before. I received no dive and no service. I couldn’t reschedule as I was only visiting briefly.
To be clear, I have no issue with the dive being cancelled. Safety is most important, and they must act responsibly. My issue is with what came next.
I requested a refund and (after being ignored for a week) was pointed to the “no refund” section in the “booking notes” — which were only provided after payment, not before (the cancellation policy page on their website is blank).
Under Australian Consumer Law, when a service is not provided at all due to supplier cancellation, a refund is required regardless of internal policies.
I was then told by Steve on the phone that a refund had been processed, but no written confirmation was ever provided, no refund appeared, and follow-up emails/texts were ignored. Steve ever so politely hungup on me when I called to chase this and reminded him of my consumer rights.
Businesses cannot rely on internal policy or “no refund” terms to override statutory rights outlined in ACL. I confirmed this with a solicitor.
If you book, be aware that:
- Operator-initiated weather cancellations will result in refund refusal
- You will likely need to pursue a card chargeback to resolve it (which is what I have done)
- The owner can be incredibly unhelpful, rude and aggressive

So I checked with PADI and he was booted out. The Steve seemed need to see people fail so to console his feeling. But you are in tourism industry, doing this kind of act is really inappropriate and eventually people will see through you
Steve was so kind and relaxt, boatride was a bit bumpy but he warned us the day before so we could get some seasickness tablets. Felt safe the whole trip. Diving was out of this world. Both corals, clownfish, slugs, we saw turtle or two from the boat. Amazing sighting of a group of bronze whaler sharks. So exiting! On the way back humpbacks. Spacious boat and good dive instructor- Maria. A certain 5 stars for this trip.
Steve's passion for the ocean and his friendly demeanor both on the phone and in person were immediately reassuring. He told us they do this because they love what they do and essentially the profit motive was secondary. This was well demonstrated throughout the trip. There was no rush, everything was done at a comfortable and safe pace, and we even took a break between the two dives to watch some whales that were putting on a show nearby.
Our divemaster was an extremely kind, knowledgeable, funny, reassuring, warm, and patient woman who led us, at times quite literally, by the hand through both dives. She took great care of us both so that we could focus on seeing some of the amazing plant and wildlife Australia has to offer. The cherry on top was hearing the whalesong while underwater- the kind of rare and fantastic experience you get to take with you forever.
10/10 experience, thank you both again!
They looked after me the whole time.
I'm not fabulous on Cold Water Dives anymore as I'm small and over 50.
But they were all great.
Still haven't seen the Elusive Grey Nurse Sharks but there's always next year.
Last dive saw lots.
Josh my Dive Instructor was amazing.
Michelle is so helpful and welcoming.
Well done team.

The only thing that would have made it five stars would be a better snorkel mask. I don’t know why, but it seems like every snorkeling trip I’ve been on, about one and three people have a mask that just leaks water all the time. We switched one mask between people and it leaked on everyone. It was a small leak and I could handle it. Still a great experience. I would go with them again.
Saw turtles and an eel and giant lobster
Thanks to Steve and great dive instructors.
Our day & dive location was changed for safety & we got the best experience ever!
We had our own instructor Josh & rescue assistant Kiara. I had 2 panic moments, but Josh (the GOAT) was so kind & kept me calm. If not for him I wouldn't missed out on one of the most incredible experiences of my life!
My daughters (14 &12) haven't stopped raving about how truly incredible it was.
One of the best days of my life!
Thank you for working with nature & with us so we could have an unforgettable experience.
On a side note I feel as though Mel was professional, patient, and sweet. I hope he doesn’t yell at her like he yelled at me on the phone.
(all other dives cancelled due to adverse weather conditions).
The 2 dives that did occur were great and our French dive guide was brilliant.
I have been unable to contact the owner Steve, and have had no response regarding a refund for the 8 dives that did not happen (despite numerous texts, emails, FB posts etc)
Steve has completely ghosted me and still owes over $1000.
I will be taking this to the small claims court.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Just a warning for anyone looking in to this.
Extremely disappointing.
The cancellation policy page on their website is (I suspect intentionally) blank.

We got to snorkel with turtles and saw so many beautiful fish. Personally I am quite afraid of boats and the ocean but he made us all feel safe and comfortable. Comfortable enough for me to decide to jump in and actually snorkel at the end of the day! The kids decided last minute that they would like to scuba dive and the crew was prepared. I didn't think a 13 and 14year old could just up and learn to dive but they were truly professional about it and bang the kids were doing it!!!! How can you recommend a service and experience highly enough, when its a once in a lifetime experience ?? 10/10!!!
I paid $248 for two dives that never happened. I booked in for Tuesday then Wednesday then Thursday then Friday then Saturday.
Needless to say none of these dives happened.
Then I noticed a cancellation policy on the email he sent me with the receipt which was there is no refund.
It seems as guys a scammer and you advise stay well away from him. Possibly sometimes it goes out taking dives I don’t know. But if you’re on holiday visiting and you can’t reschedule forever do not give him your money.
Highly recommend due to the experience, the gear, the boat and the pricing.
Ive been on many boat charters and this no stress one is probably the best so far.
Everybody was so easy to get along with and chat, good vibe under water and on the boat.
We saw dolphins and whales where Steve drove us to get closer to them, but still keeping our distance.
Was a great day. Thank you guys :)
I’m really disappointed in Steve. I live 9 hours drive away and phoned a few weeks before a trip to the Sunshine Coast to enquire about diving in my week up there. He encouraged me to book the dives so they didn’t sell out and didn’t mention the reschedule policy should they be cancelled. The rescheduling seems to be mentioned in the fine print once you’ve purchased the dives. I spent approx $450 on two dives which were both cancelled and he advised he would give a refund. 2 months later despite multiple phone calls and emails this hasn’t happened and clearly he has no intention of giving a refund. DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS

Steve mentioned there was 12 booked originally but with the weather conditions he didn't want the boat crowded so put some off for the next day! We certainly felt the benefit of that .
Do yourself a favour- book with ANYONE ELSE! 1 4 hr pool tutorial for $700 - NEXT JOKE! Stephen Kerry - you need to get an administration team to support you and your business as your customer service SUCKS!
Thanks guys!
Our family really enjoyed the whole experience.
Thanks guys
Booked with this Company online and was really looking forward to diving. They cancelled on me claiming that the weather was bad. Yet the weather was perfect! I was in any case unable to reschedule as they had asked me to do, due to travel commitments. So I asked for a refund. All I got was a pushy guy on the phone asking me to reschedule and avoid the topic of a refund.
Since returning home I have taken the issue up with my credit card company.
Take the advice from me and all the other commenters here Avoid this company ! !
