We had such a lovely lunchtime experience at False Cape Winery. Julie and Jamie looked after us so well, delivering delicious wine tasting paddles and tasty kids and adult snacking platters with warm hospitality and friendly service. I was really impressed with their wines (the Pinot Grigio and Shiraz are my firm favourites on the island), and also by their sustainable practices and care for the environment around them. Our kids loved playing with the other kids visiting in the kid-friendly garden which includes a great little playground, basketball hoop and plenty of grass to run and play too. Thanks for a lovely experience Jamie and Julie!

Don’t miss False Cape wines if visiting KI! We stumbled upon this cellar door on a visit to Kangaroo Island. We had driven past the sign a couple of times and decided to pop in one afternoon. So glad we did. We were warmly greeted by Mel and decided to do a wine flight. The wines were great! Mel was knowledgeable and super friendly and lovely. She organised a cheese platter for us also and it was a perfect accompaniment to the wines. The fire was going and we settled near it in comfy lounges.Perfect for a chilly afternoon on KI. Looking forward to receiving our chosen wines which will be waiting for us when we arrive home.

Enjoyed a delicious lunch of Yellow Curry with choice of Tofu or Chicken which was perfect for 2 vegans and 2 non-vegans on a Winter day. Loved the sustainability philosophy incorporated at the winery. Tasting flight was great value and really enjoyed the 2020 The Captain and the 2022 Fortified Shiraz. The overall atmosphere and staff were welcoming with gorgeous surroundings and combustion heater. Thanks for a very enjoyable visit will recommend to any friends coming the island.

Lovely, friendly and knowledgeable staff! We had both the white and red tasting paddles which came with a story book of their origins. Also had the homemade red wine beef pie, and the dukkah and bread - highly recommend both!
Plenty of parking, lots of indoor (with a fireplace) and outdoor seating, playground, and petting ducks and geese area.

Is this the best cellar door on the island? The better question would be whether this is one of the best cellar door experiences in the state, it's that good. Staff are welcoming, genuine and know their product. We went for a tasting and and ended up staying for lunch and a leisurely extra glass. Food was excellent (recommend the brisket roll - see pics) if we lived in the area this would be a regular lunch venue. Not only are the wines the pick of the island they, and the food are very reasonably priced. Thoroughly recommended!

What a treat, probably the best wine experience on the island with some fantastic facilities, a cracker vege garden, bball hoop and delicious wines. We bought some clean skins cab sav (easy drinking front palate cool climate) for $80 a box and loved the grigio, rose and Chardonnay, but the fortified was the top of the pop. Loved the interaction with the front of house.

Well worth the visit. A very lovely setting coupled with decent wines made for a memorable 1-2 hour visit. Didi (or was it Lulu?) the Zimbabwean born staff member was extremely hospitable and knowledgable making our stay all the better for her presence and service. The wines are extremely well priced too..

Favourite winery on KI! We’ve been here nearly two weeks and have tried all the wineries and this place ticks all the boxes. Initially we arrived by accident on a VERY busy Sunday (pizza day) so we did a quick wine tasting, bought a few bottles and went on with the ambition to come back on a quieter day. 8 days later and we are so glad we came back to test this place out for lunch as well as some local beer & wine that we didn’t try first time around. Firstly, the staff on both occasions were friendly and welcoming, but the service by Mel today was exceptional. Thanks for looking after us in such an informal yet attentive manner, we felt this was the best service we’ve had in KI this whole trip. Hubby tried the drone wheat beer which he described as a true home-brew style. I enjoyed their excellent oaky chardy by the glass. We also got a bottle of the captain cab sauv which is their flagship wine, truly delicious! We even grabbed another bottle of this to store away. Lunch was two pies (one beef & red wine, the other chicken & leek) both generous in size with a little garnish of roasted veg and tomato sauce. Came out piping hot with crispy pastry - can highly recommend. Sitting out overlooking the gorgeous green garden & vines, surrounded by bird life, puppies and other farm animals we highly recommend you stop by for an hour or three to take in this wonderful cellar door.

Lovely, lovely, lovely...worked/lived on KI for 18mths . Have been back 4 times, first time to False Cape Wine. Beautiful day, gorgeous setting, Food was delicious and my partner enjoyed the wine by buying 3 bottles. Well done ????

Delightful cellar door. Lovely welcoming staff who were very knowledgeable. The day we were there the chef had prepared a Malaysian curry which we had and thoroughly enjoyed. The wines were the best on the island. We will definitely be ordering more when we get home. Well worth a visit!

Our family visited and the place is absolutely beautiful. It was well suited for the cold day with a nice undercover section on the decking with a fireplace. It was family friendly with a playground for the kids which was great. It is worth noting that although spending quite a large amount of money on the tasting flights and food platters for the group, we were surprised there is a corkage fee on their own wines to drink and enjoy there, none of us have ever encounter this before - this was the only disappointing aspect. We still highly recommend for an afternoon.

I recently visited False Cape Wine and had an absolutely amazing culinary experience! Let me start by saying that the food was beyond incredible. We decided to try the yellow curry and the red wine beef pie, and boy, were we blown away!

Now, I consider myself quite the pie connoisseur, and I have to say, the beef pie at False Cape Wine is hands down one of the best I've ever tasted. The richness of the flavors and the tenderness of the meat were simply out of this world. With every bite, the meat just melted in my mouth, leaving me craving for more. It was truly a gastronomic delight!

And let's not forget about the yellow curry. The blend of spices and the aromatic flavors were perfectly balanced. It had just the right amount of heat, making every mouthful a tantalizing experience. The chef definitely knows how to create a curry that hits all the right notes.

Now, here comes the best part: the wine pairings. False Cape Wine offers a great selection of wines, and I must say, they really know how to complement their food with the perfect wine. My personal favorite was the ships graveyard Shiraz which went incredibly well with my red wine meat pie. The combination of flavors was simply heavenly. The wine tasting experience overall was quite good, and I appreciated the thoughtfulness that went into pairing the wines with the dishes.

In conclusion, my visit to False Cape Wine was a true culinary adventure. The food was top-notch, with the beef pie and yellow curry standing out as absolute winners. The wine selection was impressive, and the ships graveyard in particular left a lasting impression. If you're a food enthusiast like me, I highly recommend paying a visit to False Cape Wine for an unforgettable dining experience.

Stopped here as part of a tour. We didn't have food, just tasted the wine. Perfectly paced, was seated for the tasting and plenty of information was shared about the wines, the property and the owners. Highly recommend.

A place I would return to again Stopped in here for both lunch and some wine tasting and both were good. The wine tasting paddle is good value, 4 wines with tasting notes. The port was so good we bought a bottle. Lunch was good and great; the daily special of chickpea soup with chicken was a standout out; fresh, tasty, presented well. The beef pie, however, fell a tiny bit short. I'm not criticising as I fully understand the issues facing small volume restaurant's and trying to project what you will serve each day; but the pie had been microwaved. It was tasty, full of meat, nicely presented and I enjoyed it, but I really had hoped it was warmed in an oven. Or perhaps it was that the chickpea soup was so much better? The premises are very nice, plenty of chairs, a fire inside and outside, a playground for kids and welcoming staff. I'd absolutely return for wine and food again.

Gorgeous wines Really lovely Sav Blanc, so much so that I bought home 2 bottles in my carry-on. They're almost gone after 2 days.

So relaxing. This our go to for a nice drop and lunch. Anytime of the week. Open seven days. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable about their products. It's lovely to be recognised when we arrive. Maybe this means we are there too much ????. Nope not possible.
The setting is rustic with the buildings set on lawns facing the vines. It's peaceful. A lovely spot to inhale nature at its best

Great lunch We came for lunch and had and enjoyable tasty meal. Dukkald Chicken. The meal was tasty and some of their own produce was included in the ingredients which mad it all the more special. We shared a couple of wine tasting platters to go with our meal. Several very nice wines to select from too.

Super friendly environment, great wines and ambiance. Visited False Cape Wines before making the return trip on the ferry and so glad we did. Set amongst vineyards thus boutique winery offers both outdoor and indoor seating with a fair selection of tasting wines and accompanying foods. The children particularly enjoyed the menagerie of sheep, pigs, llamas, chooks and ducks as well as having a basketball hoop to keep them occupied. Very friendly and informative staff in this family run winery and good wines.

INTERESTING WINES . Stopped in the afternoon and were welcomed by a very pleasant hostess. French winemaker we are told ,who spends half his time in France and half in Kangaroo Island. Opted for the 3 Red and 3 White tasting paddles(($10 each) and it was no problem to change the Chardonnay to Sauvignon Blanc. I surprised my partner by ordering the chicken rillettes(($18) with plain crackers to accompany the wines and this was a good decision. Enjoyed all 3 whites Pinot Gris ,Sav.Blanc and, Riesling being the standout. The reds were Ok but the best was the Sangiovese which was surprising. The rillettes went so well with the wines. On leaving we noticed a big turkey out in the semi high grass. Cheekily I asked how much to buy it. The hostess said NO it has 12 young, which it did and only a few days old. Very cute. Nice way to spend your time and money!!!

Great winery stop off. Loved that it was dog friendly, great playground for the dogs too. Would have liked a little more explanations about the wine but that seems like what most do on KI. Definitely worth a visit if you’re visiting KI

Nothing false about False Cape Wines We visited False Cape on one of the worst weather days possible ,it was extremely cold and wet outside but so warm and friendly inside . We got the last table ( by the fire ) and sat and enjoyed a tasting board of wines and a cheese platter. Food and wines were excellent as was the friendly nature and passion of the staff Well done to all . Will definitely buy wines online and visit again next time we are here .

Home Made Pies Be sure to book a table to secure your seat. We enjoyed a delicious lunch, choosing the different home made pies. They were amazing! The wine flight with lunch was great. We loved the Sav Blanc and the Rose. Well worth the visit.

Friendly, warm and good food False Cape was a lovely, relaxing and friendly place for a family or couple. We went for lunch one day and sat inside the warmth of the restaurant whilst we tasted drinkable wines and let the kids play Connect 4 by the fire. Would definitely recommend for a relaxing few hours. Best to book if a table instead is desired as we found outside was packed and noisy with young ones.

Beautiful winery and informative tasting We thoroughly enjoyed our tasting at the False Cape Winery. Our hostess was lovely and passionate about their winery and the whole process of wine making. We were given generous serves of many wines. The roaring fire helped with the cold. A lovely experience.

What a calm place that was. Isolated from any other disturbance, with extremely supportive staff, delicious food and amazing wines. The calmness of outdoor sitting is just wow.

Another Hidden Gem The trip to False Cape Wines was not planned but we saw the sign on our way back (along a graded road) from Cape Willoughby Lighthouse. What a hidden gem this place is! The wines are beautiful and I bought a box. But there is also a welcome outdoor area where a number of people were having lunch, surrounded by a lovely garden, play area for the kids and dog and chickens roaming around. We had a very generous platter for two, which was enough for our little toddlers to eat from as well. The winery is superb and highly recommended. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Like all good things on kangaroo island keep following the dirt track to enjoy what's at the end. The setting, the food and most importantly the wine was delightful, so good, we joined the club for deliveries.... Now that has to be a good advertisement for the wine. We had the platter and a few wine samplers to relax while watching the chickens walk around the grounds. Merchandise to purchase, lots of parking, inside, outside and outdoors seating.

Great wines and food and to top it off they have a big playground so you can relax while the children are entertained. Beautiful views and the kids loved all the animals!

Beautiful and Relaxing We dropped by one afternoon and the kitchen had closed however we were still made welcome and enjoyed a relaxing tasting board. We then returned 2 days later for a lunch with our daughters and a lovely relax. Wonderful to visit.

The story behind this winery is very endearing and beautiful.
The actual location is fantastic with a beautiful property and well designed architecture to highlight the beauty of the vineyard. The various animals around the property with the introduction of some new alpacas that had only just arrived at the winery.

The wine was delicious and we were thankful to have a tasting with delivery of passionate words about the making and ingredients and story behind the name of the wines as well. This always makes it special.
What I also thought was special was one of the winemakers herself joined us and hosted us with her love for her wines.

Absolutely loved this place. For those interested they do have a wine club you can join as well.
