Time and time again, the Kangaroos and Koala Experience tour impresses those who choose to take part. A half day, afternoon tour, we travel at the best time of the day to see some of Australia’s unique animals in the wild.
The tour begins with pickup at your accommodation before a half hour to 40-minute journey through the rural surrounds of Canberra to the Deep Space Tracking Station at Tidbinbilla. Here you’ll learn about the significant role played by our telescopes in the Apollo missions and first moon landing as well as current day deep space tracking.
From the Deep Space Tracking Station, we’ll travel the short distance to the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve where some of Australia’s most iconic native animals living in the wild. Through the reserve we’ll hopefully witness and get close to:
- Kangaroos
- Wallabies
- Koalas
- Platypus
- Colourful parrots and other birds
- Emus
After hopefully spotting platypus towards the end of the tour, you’ll enjoy the 30-40 minute tour back into your accommodation.
Key points
- Approximately 4-hour tour from pickup to drop off in comfortable tour vehicle. Approximately 1pm pickup winter months, 3pm pickup summer months.
- Stops at the Deep Space Tracking Station at Tidbinbilla.
- Several stops inside the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve to get up and close to different animals.
- Drive through the Hinterland close to the south-west of Canberra.

Neil, our guide, was well versed in everything Canberra. He explained history, back stories, current events and was amenable and very interesting. He gave us the tour of Old and New Parliament houses, and starting the tour at Mt Ainslie gave us the perspective we needed.
An excellent day and well worth it.
This tour has easily been the best tour we have ever been on and was made a lot better with a friendly knowledgeable tour guide named Neil. thank you very much. boss, give him a raise.
Graham was a fantastic tour guide and really made the day for us.
Well worth doing
We booked the full day tour on Viator. We were met at our hotel by Graham who was a fountain of knowledge regarding his home city. We learned so much about the history and architecture of this interesting and quite unique city.
It was a beautiful day so we were lucky enough to see the view of the ‘Canberra Triangle’ from the Mount Ainslie lookout. When visiting the Parliament, we were also fortunate to go into the public gallery at The Senate (Australian equivalent to the UK’s House of Lords) and witness the debate in question time. Probably the highlight of the day was the timely visit to The Australian War Memorial where we were able to see the daily ‘last post’ ceremony, which was an emotional and moving experience.
Thanks for a great day Graham!
Highly recommended tour.
Bob (your guide) is such an asset to this company, very knowledgeable and so friendly. Just book you wont be sorry
The weather was not the best, but Michael tailored the tour to lessen the impact of the rain. He was a great host, with a good knowledge of the places we visited.
I would recommend this tour to others.
We all enjoyed it very much and fitted so much into the day, Bob was the perfect guide and very knowledgable.
I would personally recommend this tour to anybody visiting Canberra.
Remember to wear good shoes, take water and a hat, we were all totally exhaused by the end of the day. Thank you Bob
Bob was a great tour guide and very easy to talk to, a wealth of knowledge.
Anybody going to Canberra try this tour, but wear your best walking shoe, take water and a hat.

The tour captured the main Canberra highlights with plenty of time to have a good look around.
Would highly recommend,
The tour among kangaroos and koalas was unforgettable and extremely well organised.
Neil is not only a highly professional guide, but also someone with deep knowledge, genuine passion and great respect for wildlife. His explanations were clear, engaging and full of interesting details, and his love for animals is evident in everything he does.
Thanks to him, we experienced Australian wildlife in a very authentic and respectful way.
Highly recommended to anyone visiting Canberra who wants more than just a standard tour.
Thank you, Neil, for such a memorable experience!
Greetings from you new Bulgarian friends
Day out , we advise everyone to join this small welcoming tour when next visiting Canberra, you won’t be disappointed.
Neil was a great tour guide with a great knowledge of the various Canberra sights and history
Neil was our guide and he proved to be a wealth of information, not at least about Australian politics and history. Difficult questions were answered clearly and meticulously.
The whole tour was above eight hours long and a fantastic introduction to Australia and particularly the uniqueness of Canberra for us.
We are so happy that we could go on this outstanding tour. Neil is one of the very best guides we’ve ever had, and we sign up for guided tours in almost every town we visit abroad.
Eric and Anita
I truly recommend this tour to be taken early in your stay. It explains so many aspects of Canberra.
A big thank you from us both.
If you want more personal insights into Canberra then the money spent on a personal guide is not wasted.
Highly recommend.
Anyway, all great news after that. Excellent guide, comfortable mini bus.
The guide, Neil, added so many stories to the facts that kept us engaged throughout. So many interesting places. Weather was inclement so the guide changed the order so we could have the best views.
He would stop in so many extra places so we could see churches, memorials and Kangaroos even.
Thoroughly recommended. We think we prefer Canberra to Sydney!
Neil was fantastic, getting everyone on the bus engaged in the tour and having a great time together. The tour itself was excellent and my wife and I would recommend this tour if you're visiting Canberra.
