Best day with Martin. So knowledgeable and lovely to spend the day with. Did 3 vineyards, mt lofty, chocolate factory and Hahndorf village. Saw koalas as well in the trees. Strongly recommend.

My wife and I went on a tour of the McLaren Vale with Beyond the Vine in April 2021. We had booked on to a group tour, but discovered we were the only ones that had booked that day, so received a private tour for the same price! We had a fantastic time. Martin was an excellent guide, providing a lot of fascinating history of the region and recommending wineries based on our preferences. Highly recommended. We'll definitely book again the next time we're in Adelaide!

We went on the South Coast Wine Train recently with our 6 month old twins. Martin and his team (including the wonderfully helpful coach driver) were outstanding. They were so accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed to travel, including baby seats on the coach. The train and wine tour itself was outstanding. So beautiful and well organised. Travelling through the wonderful scenery by train was such a different experience than your usual car trip. Would definitely recommend, Thank you so much for a fabulous trip.

We were both new to wine tours in Adelaide but still had our fair share of wine in the past. I cannot recommend this tour enough for the knowledge of the guides and the outstanding service provided. We were fortunate enough to have an all day tour with our own private guide and we both agreed that this wine tour was our favorite part of our holiday. Martin was a fun and knowledgeable guide on our tour to McLaren Vale. The wineries he chose had knowledgable staff and terrific wines ( particularly Kays). Lunch was delicious and the ride comfortable. Highly recommended (Perth, WA)

Not Just for Wine Buffs - see the valley Mark our Tour guide started the day well picking us up from our accommodation on time in a clean and very comfortable SUV. There were only two couples and our adult daughter so the tour was very personal. Mark was a wealth of knowledge, the whispering wall was a delightful surprise, the kegelbarn was great fun and Mark added a couple of stops not on the itinerary which were very interesting. Of course the winery's we visited were all first class and the car was a lot heavier on the return journey. We all enjoyed the day with different aspects being the highlight for each of us. Thanks again Mum and Dad Tours for a great day.

Exceeded Expectations As is implied by its name, Mum and Dad’s Tours is a family operated business.

I managed to make an error selecting the date for our tour when booking through a discount voucher provider. Mark and Rosslyn Beverley quickly identified my error and contacted me to set things straight without any difficulty.

As our appointed pick-up time approached, Mark rang to advise that he was running a couple of minutes late because of delay caused by the major major transport infrastructure works being undertaken on North Terrace.

The pick-up location is conveniently located at the King William Street end of Rundell Mall, outside Charlesworth Nuts and opposite a Haigh’s Chocolate shop.

A Glenelg-Entertainment Centre tram stop is opposite Haighes in the middle of King William Street.

As we boarded his neat clean mini-bus, Mark handed us a small welcome package and invited us to sit close to him at the front of the bus as we were to be his only guests for the day. He made us feel very comfortable and it soon became apparent that he and Rosslyn had put a lot of thought into, and taken a lot of care in setting up their enterprise.

If you want a tour guide with a commentary that consists of nothing more than corny scripted jokes and facts that you already probably know, then look elsewhere.

Mark certainly has a good sense of humour, but with a focus on providing interesting information, much of which is not to be found in the standard visitor information guides.

Following good rainfall, the scenery en route to the Barossa was very beautiful.

I will only comment briefly on the places we visited that are well covered elsewhere and I would not like to spoil the surprises to be had at locations you may get to visit that are not on the formal itinerary.

At the Barossa Valley Brewery, we enjoyed a tasting paddle ( called a ‘flight’ in North America) of 6 interesting and unusual beers. We did not try the food there because we were snacking during the morning. We did not do a tour of the brewery, but as a born-again home brewer, I had a good chat with the bar attendant who also works in the brewery.

We arrived at the Tanunda Kegel Club ahead of schedule for our appointed visit and waited a couple of minutes for the club official to arrive (voluntarily in his own time) to give us access and to provide an interesting commentary on the history of the game, the club and the method of scoring. I had the opportunity to play a game against my wife, with Mark replacing the fallen pins and returning our bowls.

In the afternoon we visited ‘Tscharkes Place’ vineyards and winery. The tasting building is hidden away from the road, which was an early indication that these folk like to go about their grape growing and wine making with relative peace, quiet and privacy.

We were taken down to the tasting dungeon by our personal tasting host (Dianne?). I assume that there is no guarantee of a personal host for every visit.

The different wines were explained to us in a pleasant, informative manner without the overbearing snobbery and sales push encountered with many other wine tasting hosts.

The information was welcome because I had no previous experience with some of the source grape varieties, such as:
Savagnin; Touriga Nacional; Graciano; and, Montepulciano.

Some wine tasting hosts will not get out of your face until you pretend, under interrogation, that the aroma and taste of the wine presents ‘notes of’ berry, citrus, freshly cut straw, tropical fruit, chocolate, cigar box, pepper, cows hide or chicken blood etc. We were not forced to play that game at Tscharkes Place.

Remember when you are asked at other wineries what ‘fruit notes’ you detect in a wine, IT IS NEVER ACCEPTABLE TO SAY ‘GRAPE’ joking or otherwise. You could probably get away with it at Tscharkes.

All of the half-dozen or so wines that we tried tasted were good and were excellent value, mostly ranging from $10 to $20 dollars per bottle. So, leave some room in your in your car boot to stock up or pick up an online order form. I understand that they don’t sell through wholesalers or off-site retail.
