atmosphere was super fun, would definitely recommend going!

Loved it,& 10/10 recommend

We found the shop team really helpful and happy to talk surfing. The shop offers a bit more and has a nice community feel to it.
Ross was great in the lesson. Really helpful, calm and friendly, putting us at ease and getting the best out of us! He delivered on getting both us novices standing quickly.
Great all round so thank you again!!

I booked the Surf and Stay option, which I can highly recommend as well. The Surf House is a good hostel.
You can easily join the course every day of the week and you can add additional days if you'd like. The course is spilt into different experience levels, so everyone receives the support they need. The contact is very personal, so you always feel that you are in good hands.

The staff where great and the beach and waves selected where perfect.
Will go again.

We started the day by heading out to Flat Head, where it is safer and quieter for us newbies.
Matt then led the session for the beginners and truly made us feel safe, whilst also being super friendly and entertaining. Once we got to grips with how to use the board and practice standing etc, it was off to the water to try it for real.
It was both exhilarating and frustrating at the same time. It’s much harder than we anticipated, but by the end, we started to feel more comfortable and successfully managed to ride a couple of waves.
Thank you all for the amazing lesson and for getting us started on our surfing adventures to come 😁
Thank you for the great care and clear explanations. It was an amazing experience, and we managed to catch some great waves! I highly recommend this surf school to everyone. We had a beginner group lesson, and despite the group size, we still received personal guidance. Truly an unforgettable morning!

We have easily booked sessions in store a few days ahead. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable and advised what the best options for us would be. This time we booked a private 2 hour lesson for 2 kids.
Everything you need is supplied. You just need to wear your bathers, bring a towel and sunscreen. Our instructor was Will this time. He took us out to The Pass in Byron Bay. It was an absolutely stunning spot with perfect sized waves for beginner surfers.
The kids had an amazing time while learning to surf. They learned basic safety, how to paddle the board out and how to paddle and stand to ride a wave. Will was very patient and encouraging. Thanks so much to Will, he was great with the kids.

Thanks guys!
And the bikes from the shop were really great (basic but we didn’t need more!) and we could explore a bit!
We did the two day group classes, we started as beginners so they took us specially to a beach that would work better for that which was great. We had Levi as our surf teacher and he was supper supportive, in the beginning helping us catch the waves and after learning the basics we started catching our own waves. We learned a lot in just one session.
The next day there was not enough people to make up a group but they had the class just for us any way. We got Levi again, which was great and we got learn even more things in a different beach.
Overall, we had an amazing time. Levi was an amazing teacher, he is encouraging and very nice. He also gave us some tips about Byron Bay.
Highly recommend!

If you want to try surfing this is the place to go:)
The negative points, and why my rating is a 3 and not a 5:
- I paid $25 for the 1 day photo package. Advertised as “individual surfing shots & group shots” sent to your email after the lesson. While surfing, I noticed there was no photographer. Today (3 days after my lessons), I called the shop inquiring where my pictures were. I was told that there was no photographer either day that I surfed (Friday 2-6pm and Saturday 2-6pm). I was offered a refund for my $25. While I appreciate the refund, I am from America and was in Byron Bay for 2 nights. I’m not sure when I’ll be back, if ever. I specifically chose a surf school that offered photos. If there’s not a photographer for the day, I shouldn’t be offered and advertised a photo package and then told after the fact that it doesn’t exist. I would’ve preferred to pay the $25 and receive what I expected. I have emailed directly letting them know my frustration and haven’t gotten a response yet.
****IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR PHOTOS of you surfing, book elsewhere** I am disappointed to write this, because the rest of my experience here was wonderful.
- With the package I booked, I was supposed to receive a tote bag, water bottle, stubby holder, stickers, and discounts, per their website. I had to specifically ask on the 2nd day to receive this (seemed like they forgot?), and I was informed that they “don’t give out water bottles anymore.” Obviously, not the end of the world, but semi frustrating. Update the website to reflect this change.
** BESIDES THE PHOTOS…:
The hostel: I stayed in a 6 person dorm and my experience was great! Everyone was incredibly friendly and I was never alone (as a solo traveler) because of the friends that I made. The room was clean and the beds were comfy.
The surf lesson: Also great! Once again, the people in my group were friendly and it was super fun. This was my first time ever surfing and the instructor was helpful and nice. By the end of day 2 I was catching my own waves and standing up!

All in all take your to learn first skills. The team and surf school is highly recommended.
Thanks for the beautiful afternoon in the water.

please don’t make the same mistake and book the 2 days from the beginning!! :)
