Bruny Island is close to nipaluna/Hobart yet feels a world away as you cross the D’Entrecasteaux Channel on the ferry. This island provides the ultimate wilderness experience with spectacular sea cliffs, long beaches, tranquil waterways, and national parks. It’s home to fairy penguins, albatross, fur seals, and the rare white wallaby. It’s also known as a foodie paradise with freshly shucked oysters, artisan cheese, fudge, whisky, and wine.
We head to the southern point of the island to reveal the dramatic coastline and see a heritage-listed lighthouse built in 1836. We’ll stop for lunch before heading to the beautiful Adventure Bay. Check out the incredible views from the top of The Neck Lookout. Discover the history of explorers who have ventured to the island at the privately run Bligh Museum. If there’s time, take a stroll along the tranquil beach. On the way back to the ferry we call in to Get Shucked to sample sustainably cultivated plump oysters from the nearby pristine waters.

His insights kept the long rides interesting. The views were amazing along to route and we were blessed to have pretty clear skies.
Loved the Tahune Airwalk where we did the three tracks. Hastings caves were awesome with cave guide also super enthusiastic.
The warm apple pie and fresh apples Nathan stopped off to get us as we headed back were a nice touch to end the trip.
Thanks Nathan and Team!
We had a small group of 8 ppl which was good.
Our first stop was at a bakery to have something to eat or buy something for later on.
A drive through Huonville valley , which was a nice town with a big bay.
Then a stop at Hastings airwalk, have 3 walks to choose from, we did the tall tree walk, over a few bridges and a stream, which was nice on a beautiful day, the trees were not that big or special .
Next part of the walk over 2 very narrow bridges were a little nerve-wracking , but not that long so was ok, the other bridge , you could feel the vibrations more.
We stayed there for 2 hrs which was enough time to have lunch also.
The drive to the caves was 1 hr away.
We walked through a rainforest to get to the cave , with some amazing original trees that have never been logged.
The guide for the cave was great , and was so informative , with many nice dolomites and crystals there.
Then a stop at Franks cider bar, where we could purchase a 'paddle' of cider samples at $12 ea. Gino said it was about 2 full drinks worth when asked how much we get , so purchased one for each of us; when they arrived it was such a large quantity ( as l'm not much of a cider drinker ) each sample was labelled with the amount of alcohol in ea. ( gave many away to other people on the tour ) also treated to apple pie with cream which was great.
Gino was a great guide, as was the tour.
This day-tour was well worth the $396 for a couple (us). We took it on Sun 1 Dec 2024.
We took the bus tour 9 hours round trip, so that we did not have to drive (this day, anyway).
Pickup was very near our hotel (Salamanca, Hobart), at 10 to 8 sharp.
We were the last pickup, so we left immediately with 12 people on board.
The driver was a local Aussie / Tassie, and had a lot of the history which he shared (with jokes, of course). Thank you, mate.
First stop was breakfast at Banjo's in Kinston (own cost).
Then the Tahune Forest Walk (highly recommended).
Then the Hastings Caves (highly recommended).
The Thermal Springs (at Hastings Caves) was NOT included, and no time allowed anyway.
Then stopped at a Franks Cider Bar and Café (we purchased the Cider taste paddle, and the Apple pie and ice cream was on the house!).
Then return to Hobart, 5pm.
Tassie Tours Tasmania has purchased the tour, and now operates it (and many others).
We had one complaint:
The bus was really old - we called it "Shake, Rattle, Rock 'n Roll" !
It was a rough ride. Tassie Tours - time to upgrade this bus. Please.
Caves were great, cold and the tour guide sang for us, to demonstrate the echo in the caves. Beautuful singing voice!
Lots of walking and driving in between but Nathan kept us entertained. Stopped for lunch at Kermandie Hotel in Port Huon, was a nice break. I had the salmon, which was lovely.
I was a bit nervous about the Airwalk but we were kept entertained by Nathan chatting to everyone. Thank you for a lovely day, well worth it and will recommend to everyone.
Highly recommend tours around Tasmania from my first phone call to booking and paying to Huw meeting us with a smile when we got off the ship you guys made our visit to Hobart very pleasurable.
Being able to catch the next bus if needed
The tour guide was very informative.
There are stairs leading to the Hastings caves however we found that they were manageable, not too steep. The guide who took us through the caves was experienced and knowledgeable about the different rock formations and crystal found throughout the caves.
The Tahune air walk was another highlight, giving us some amazing scenic views over the Huon River and surrounds, even allowing us a perfect birds eye view over the river.
The Kermandie Hotel where we had lunch was also fabulous, I had the steak and it was very well cooked and flavoursome.
Gary was also clearly very passionate about the local area and what it has to offer, including Tasmanian wood and honey - he deserves a special mention for this.
All in all, this was a great experience and I would not hesitate to recommend this tour to anyone visiting Hobart, whether it's your first time or hundredth.
Hasting Caves was a neat experience as you travel into the depths of the earth. The cave is massive, and there's a chance for all lights to turn off, so you're surrounded in total darkness for a minute. There are also many chambers to explore. Note that there are several stairs to climb during this tour.
The Tahune AirWalk is an excellent way to see a heightened forest view. The walk is pleasant, and you're surrounded by beautiful nature the entire time. The bridges are also an incredible experience as you cross large rivers.
I recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes with a good grip, especially as the cave floors are wet.
Malcolm is a fantastic tour guide full of knowledge about the sites and history of Tasmania! He was also very punctual for the hotel pick-up.
We enjoyed our day Mewstone Winery Margy was excellent great wine and insights and the Grandewe Distillery was so much fun with lunch at Peppermint Bay we had a great action packed, well paced day!
Thank you Huw and team for our memories.
Also forgot to mention, thanks for the surprise selfie Huw it was a nice gift
