Great views, fantastic wines and a knowledgeable and super friendly host Jimmy who made the whole experience next level.
Will definitely be back 😊
We were greeted with a great welcoming, decided on a regional tasting platter even though no booking, wasn’t too hard to do and had a tasting flight too..
Highly recommend, service was 5 star.. ⭐️
At other wineries, we had been very impressed with the knowledgeable staff who were on hand to provide information, make suggestions and answer questions. Disappointingly we did not have the same experience at Gumtree. The young girl who served us appeared disinterested. Her manner was off-hand at best and lacked any enthusiasm for the wines. We left after the tasting without having found anything that we really liked. Perhaps this was just the wine but I suspect that the service might have played a part.
Pro tip: they also host two tiny homes nearby, and it’s a lovely stay and wander around.
Tania our guide was an absolute treat and so much fun that it was the most enjoyable day. The wines we tried were all lovely and probably the best we had from 5 different wineries this week. Food was fantastic, the education tour was brilliant and I highly recommend this for everyone. If you live on the land or work in agriculture, their principles and systems for growing is extremely interesting. Their wines are lower sulphate too and may be great for anyone that suffers from gout. Add this place to your tour list.
We had some lovely wines and the nibbles platter was a perfect complement to the wines.
We all ended up buying wines and sending them back home.
And, for the environmentally focussed, they have a commitment to organic and biodynamic practices, a tasting room purpose built using recycled materials, are powered by solar panels, use only rainwater and have an eco trail to have a wonder along!
Add to that the fact that the staff are welcoming, friendly and professional They are the whole package!
We were greeted by a personalised sign which was a very nice touch. The wines, the tour around and information exceptional. Our picnic lunch was definitely a highlight and full credit to the team for creating such a beautiful natural environment. Our family included two children under 6 who were made most welcome. Many thanks 😊
day , I can’t believe we haven’t been there before , it was amazing and the gorgeous girl who served us was very delightful and informative ( sorry that we didn’t get her name ) it was a really hot day so we didn’t get sitting outside but we will definitely be back and taste more wines , definitely see you soon
Afterwards we walked on the Gemtree Eco Trail, where the owner of Gemtree planted more than 50.000 plants. Half way, at the lake a picnic was prepared for us. It was prepared with a bottle of Gemtree wine (our choice) and by The Salopian Inn and really extraordinary food! Nearly Michelin Star quality!
After another hour, we were picked up again overall very recommended and very unique at McLaren Vale!
Their wines are fantastic, the platter was delish and Tania was a great guide.
Their wine making methods are fascinating.
Could not recommend Gemtree Wines highly enough.
I particularly appreciated how we could each choose five wines to taste from a comprehensive list. The wines were delicious- especially the April’s Dance sparkling!
We tasted 6 different wines then enjoyed a glass with an amazing platter of local ham, cheese & other goodies.
They have a 1km eco trail with emus and koalas. Great stroll with kids. There is a small playground as part of this. Would only be fun for smaller kids but mine still enjoyed themselves and had some good imaginary play. Bbq area at park (looks to be 1$ per use). They encourage picnicking here.
Unexpected experience at winery (in a good way).
We'll be looking to return with some friends and their kids.
Thanks
One of the highlights was the very nice staff which had in off time for us to explain everything in detail.
Definitely worth the visit.
no side effects. We will be buying your wine and recommend it very highly. The wine tasting and platter were above our expectations. Staff very interesting and informative .
Mark and guest
We received the biodynamic tour as a gift. Best gift ever.
We learnt a lot, plus the wines taste so good.
Then topped it off with a great platter of local produce.
Thank you Nikki for a very informative and fun day.
The tour was topped off by the v tasting of some great wines and an excellent platter of local produce.
Great wines, the lunch platter was a showcase of local produce it was delicious.
Look fwd to visiting again and maybe doing one of the tours.
Judy, who attended us was an awesome person! Very caring and explained all the finer details of the wine-making process and sustainable farming. It was an invirogating experience. What impressed me most was the warm welcome sign we received upon arrival.
Three cheers to Judy, an absolute legend!
Our platter at the end was just wonderful.
Thanks for making our experience very special.
But it was the flagship range that really impressed. In particular the Obsidian. A deep, smooth, classic McLaren Vale shiraz. Easily the best we drank on this visit, it outclassed higher profile producers at a similar price (eg. Wirra Wirra, d’Arenberg).
As we were the only people in cellar door on the day of our visit, we found the service a little lacklustre. The staff member was distracted and seemed to be going through the motions.
But if you’re travelling with younger children, Gemtree is worth a stop. From the cellar door you can see their alpacas and sheep. Beyond that is the eco trail. Here you can see rescued koalas and emus undergoing rehab along with a variety of other wild birds. There’s also a children’s playground, nature trail and picnic areas. This is free, and you can visit the eco trail without going to the cellar door.
