Join us on this unique and special 3 hour kayak tour through the Dolphin Sanctuary and Ships Graveyard. We paddle down sheltered mangrove creeks that have been here for over 10,000 years, past spectacular shipwrecks that have been abandoned from a bygone era and along the way have the opportunity to see dolphins, birdlife and other marine creatures that make up this intricate eco system.
Participants don’t need any prior kayaking experience, and we travel at a comfortable pace, so there are plenty of opportunity for photos.
Demonstrations and all equipment will be provided on arrival.
Children rates are 9-15 years of age – children must be 9 years of age to participate in the kayak tours, however, children 9-15 must be in a double kayak with an adult. Children must be able to paddle.

The guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about the local wildlife. They made us feel completely at ease, even though we’re not super experienced kayakers. The pace was relaxed, allowing us to fully enjoy the scenery and each other’s company.
And the dolphins wow! Seeing them up close in their natural habitat was absolutely magical. At one point, a small pod swam right alongside our kayak. We even spotted a few other marine animals and learned so much about the ecosystem from our guide.
Highly recommend this experience to any couple looking to do something unique and meaningful together. We left with big smiles, unforgettable memories, and a renewed appreciation for the ocean and its incredible creatures. Don’t miss it!
We were really lucky to have two dolphins swim directly under our kayaks, apparently feeding.
Highly recommend.
Wonderful local Family business would highly reccomend!
The kayaking itself was peaceful and beautiful, with calm waters and plenty of time to enjoy the scenery. The highlight, of course, was seeing the 2 dolphins up close in their natural environment, a few different birds and a pelican as well
Our guide, Alex, was absolutely fantastic – knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about sharing the history and beauty of the area. Touring the shipwrecks was a highlight, and hearing about their history was so interesting. I even spotted multiple crabs and got to hold one, which was such a fun surprise!
While I only saw dolphins from a distance, it was still magical to see them in their natural environment. Hannah, who greeted us at the shore, was so lovely and helpful, making the whole process easy and welcoming.
Tip: Be prepared to get wet, and definitely make sure your phone is in a waterproof bag – you’ll thank yourself later!
Overall, this was such a peaceful and memorable trip. Huge thanks to Alex and the team for making it so special – you can really tell they love what they do!
The guides were friendly and knowledgeable, pointing out interesting facts about the local marine life and making sure everyone felt comfortable and safe. We even had some quiet moments just floating together, taking in the stunning scenery, it felt like our own little adventure.
If you’re looking for something unique and memorable to do as a couple, I couldn’t recommend this more. We left with huge smiles, beautiful photos, and a lovely shared memory we’ll be talking about for ages. Absolutely worth it!
It was my first time kayaking, and the initial session was both helpful and informative. The team gave clear instructions on how to paddle and control the kayak. A map was also provided, and you can choose your route based on your time and kayaking experience.
This is a must-do if you’re visiting Adelaide! I highly recommend it to anyone and would definitely do it again.
Came back both mellow and invigorated.
This would be a great outing for individuals and families. Thanks Fiona for a great time.
Paddy and Hannah led our tribe of newbies and more experienced kayakers, and kept us engaged with information and stories the whole 3 hours. They were very relaxed and you could see they love their job.
Think you can't do it?
My 75 yr old mum just did, so don't let your doubt stop you!
One of the highlights of the tour was the opportunity to see dolphins in their natural habitat while kayaking. Witnessing these majestic creatures up close added a magical touch to the adventure and made the experience truly unforgettable.
Since the tour lasts approximately three hours, it’s important to come prepared. We recommend applying sunscreen and wearing a long-sleeve shirt to protect against sunburn, as you’ll be exposed to the sun for an extended period.
Overall, this tour offers a perfect blend of adventure and nature, making it a highly recommended activity for anyone seeking a unique and enjoyable experience.
The tour was suitable for families of all different ages and abilities.
Extra stars for the dolphin 🐬 making an appearance. Highly recommended
First-time kayaking and loved every minute of it! Staff provided guidance for first-time kayakers like us. We kicked off our day with a thrilling dolphin sighting, explored ancient shipwrecks each with unique stories, followed by a serene kayaking adventure through the lush mangroves forest. Enjoyed the guided tour and can't wait to paddle again. Highly recommend!"
We opted for the 3 hour guided tour and our guide (Mitch) was awesome! We saw some wonderful wildlife and had dolphins swimming near us several times ????. The route took us deep into the incredible mangroves and the tour culminated it getting up close to some historical shipwrecks - each with an interesting story behind them that our guide expertly articulated.
I thoroughly recommend doing this tour - whether you’re just visiting or a resident who’s just not got round to doing it yet!
The guided tour gave us lots of interesting and relevant information surrounding the mangroves and also the dolphins, to which we were lucky enough to see.
I did have concerns about other “wildlife” that we might encounter however the area appears really safe and the sun is your only threat.
Tips/feedback - As British tourists, this location is remote, there is nothing there apart for toilets. Normally not really a problem, however when I realised that we didn’t have any data/wifi and we arrived via Uber, left me a bit concerned to how we were going to get back to the city. Thankfully, Paddy allowed us to use his phone as a hotspot in order for us to book an Uber back (thank you Paddy). Perhaps that might be a consideration for the owner to look into WiFi for customers instead of relying on the staffs goodwill.
Other that a very enjoyable experience.
Our tour guide Alex was helpful and knowledgeable, providing safety information and practical advice before getting into our kayaks.
On the water we were lucky enough to see 4 dolphins right away and again later in the tour.
A trip down a mangrove creek was another highlight and Alex provided interesting insights into the mangrove ecosystem.
The kayak was easy to manage, the atmosphere was relaxed and it was a privilege to see this beautiful environment.
We aren't sure if we saw this first on Getaway (TV program) or Red Balloon, but we were certainly keen to give it a try when next in Adelaide. It didn't disappoint, we booked a day with perfect weather and within 15 minutes of getting in our kayaks saw two dolphins. We watched them as they frolicked around. Totally a highlight. Our guide, Paddy then took us into the mangroves and pointed out birds, fish and plants to help us understand the area.
This tour was a highlight of our stay in Adelaide. The drive from the CBD is manageable and the cost of the tour totally affordable.
BYO snack or picnic lunch to eat before or after your experience.
Noah our guide was. Marine biologist, but all the guides seemed great and everyone seemed to have a good time. Each group was about 5 double canoes, great experience for us.
Dolphin Sanctuary Kayak tours is a very well organised operation. They also contribute to environmental conservation of the area. Thanks for a great morning, Alex.????
Pros:
- very knowledgeable guides
- they provide dry bags for phones and valuables you can take with you
- they have a place to set your bags if you don’t wish you bring them with you
- there are bathrooms at the property (but cannot use them once on the water)
- really fair price!
My recommendations:
- travel by train to port Adelaide station and then try and get a taxi/ Uber the rest of the way. This place was a bit hard to get to since there were not many public transport options in this area.
- bring polarized glasses. It helps you to see deeper past the waves on sunny days!
-bring lots of water and sunscreen. With the exception of the mangrove river there was no shade. They do provide a homemade bug spray mixture and water refill jug which was a pleasant surprise.
-wear shoes that can get wet! You will be getting in and out of the kayaks from a beach and will be standing in ankle deep water.
You get instructions, passionate tour guides who are very knowlegable in many areas, excercise and the amazing feeling from watching the beautiful dolphins while floating on water. You feel safe and valued.
