Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Oil Distillery is a family-owned business and has been a popular Kangaroo Island tourist attraction since 1991. We are the only commercial Eucalyptus Oil distillery in South Australia. Join us on one of our informative and interesting tours to find out how the unique Kangaroo Island Narrow-leaf Mallee is grown, harvested, and distilled to produce our amazing and versatile 100% pure Australian Eucalyptus Oil.
The 30-minute tour commences with a brief introductory DVD showing historical and recent footage of the oil production process and history of what was once the major industry on Kangaroo Island. From here you will head out to the distillery, passing our resident emu and the original Macgillivray Post Office along the way while enjoying the natural bush setting and collection of antique farm implements, and equipment dotted about the grounds. At the end of the tour, we visit the charmingly rustic shop, partially constructed with materials from the old shearing shed, to discover our range of beautiful natural products.
From here you have the option to enjoy the local produce while you wander in the shop or try out the Cafe for a coffee, meal, or cider tasting, or on the back deck, you may catch a glimpse of some local kangaroos.

The gift shop was one of the best we found on the island, full of amazing Kangaroo Island goodies like eucalyptus oil, honey, jams, and beautiful locally made products. It's a family-owned business, and you can really feel the care they put into everything.
The cafe was perfect for our family (two little kids and a grandparent). And the highlight? They had a kangaroo they’d rescued - which now has a joey in its pouch—our kids couldn’t stop talking about it!
This place is a must-visit. Great food, great shopping, and such a special experience. 💕

A must visit

They have some really good eucalyptus products
The outstanding group of staff makes the whole shopping expensive worth the visit

was well worth having a look at, with an array of top quality products in the Gift Shop & in the small theatre we were able to view the History as well as the process of Eucalyptus Oil
It was nice to see the Island namesake being hand-reared as an orphan in the Shop.

Great range of products and they had their own honey as well which was delicious and quite reasonably priced compared to other outlets.
Ended up buying some other items. It has tours you can do and ciders to try. Lunch menu read well.

It's a family business with a fascinating history, there's no pushy selling and the staff there seem genuine about their welcome for visitors. A great range of stock - I never thought we'd want so many eucalyptus products.
Top tips: Go early and have breakfast in their cafe - trust me on this, you'll not regret it.
Take the short but interesting guided tour - great value and well worth it.
We split a burger. They served us quickly. The burger was ok. Quite messy and I didn’t like beets on it. Worth a try though

Lovely gifts, wonderful aromas, sustainable products and a friendly kangaroo!
Good value too.

The friendly staff provided informative explanations.
I had the fortunate opportunity to observe kangaroo joeys up close as they roamed around inside the store.
Highly recommended if you're seeking a leisurely getaway on the island

It does not look much from the outside
We would have missed a treat
Friendly staff
Good food & coffee
Very nice cool veranda area
So well laid out

Wandering in further we sat down to a cider tasting paddle ($20 for two) which had three alcoholic ciders, all tasty and very different from eachother and their non alcoholic apple sparkler cider. This area also has an excellent looking cafe, which we didn’t try as we’d only just had lunch before arriving (oops).
A great stop for a local product and to spend about an hour.

Edit: After coffee in a few other KI locations, this was by far the best coffee. Enjoy!!!
they have a simple playground that may occupy the kids for a bit and even an Emu nearby
We had lunch here consisting on BBQ lamb sausage, chicken skewer, potato salad, coleslaw and green salad. With a warm bread roll... All fresh and delicious. A piece of carrot, walnut and pineapple cake topped it off nicely. While having lunch, we had the option of a tasting paddle of apple cider. For $10, a delicious extra with lunch.

A MUST if you are visiting Kangaroo Island
Café open on site for your coffee ☕️ plus cake ????
Give the cider pallet a try. Very nice.
The aroma of the eucalyptus is very evident
I brought a group of people here, and they had such a wonderful time.
The selection of produce substantial.
The staff friendly and knowledgeable.
It is clean.
Definitely worth the visit.
I bought cider and other Eucalyptus products from here.
