As the Original Laneways walk of the Central City of Melbourne, this is the tour to really discover the inner heart of Melbourne. Discover local designers and specialty retailers, that often are only found in the city. We showcase some of the laneways you may have heard about, but also many you may not know so well. A walk in the city is not complete with out a wonderful drink stop, at a local chocolate salon. This is a tour with a few added indulgences. A little history, and attention to amazing architecture will inspire locals and visitors alike. See many of Melbourne’s amazing local businesses and return to those you like best, make a day of it in Marvelous Melbourne! Two departure times are available – 10.00am and 2.00pm. Tour conducted in English.

- Group size is kept small – minimum 2 to generally max 8.
The tour starts at Federation Square and concludes not too far from there. Morning tours run from either 9am – 12pm (Special requests in Summer only) or 10am – 1pm and afternoon tours run from 2pm – 5pm. Please double check your start time above (in the dark area) and please meet your guide at the lower steps outside Time Out Café in Federation Square (café opposite the Flinders Street) at least five minutes prior to your tour start time so as not to delay departure. Please look for your guide holding the large yellow umbrella with ‘Hidden Secrets Tours’ written on it.

The walk is approximately 2km, with a few stairs along the way. Heels are not advised. Please advise if you have any mobility or access requirements so we can best accommodate you. We look forward to showing you some of the Hidden Secrets of Melbourne’s creative community!

This was such an fun and interesting tour, little alleys that were full of art and fun little restaurants and shops. The historical buildings that have been kept with updates to types of businesses just made me happy to see. Excellent hidden secrets tour of Melbourne! After a brief history of the city we explored several of the historic buildings/arcades that have been transformed into shopping/dining venues. We were shown alley ways to a mass display of local art works painted on historic buildings. Secret alleys found only with the help of our excellent guide, Liz. Adventure includes chocolate tasting, coffee and a delicious lunch with wine at a Peruvian restaurant.

I had no idea what to expect of Melbourne: my mom booked our Australia trip as a gift for both of us, and I decided to let each day be something of a surprise. Despite a rainy, chilly day, Alice's excellent Lanes and Arcades Walking Tour showed me parts of the city I 100% would not have noticed if I had just been wandering on my own. She was extremely considerate of my mom (who walks very slowly, and with a cane), never made her feel like she needed to hurry up, and was so kind as to get on the free tram with us and show us to the Queen Victoria Market (even though it wasn't on the itinerary). Great tour. Melinda knows her stuff. Melinda was a great guide, taking our interests into consideration, as we walked the lanes and alleyways of the CBD, on this private tour. She was filled with stories and insights and patience for my slower walking.The only "meh" part of our tour was lunch, but in fairness she chose a gluten free restaurant that was on my list of possible "go-tos." The meh-ness was not her but the restaurant.
I would take this tour with her again in a second. She did a great job and was a highlight of our visit to Melbourne.

SO many fun things to see, eat, and learn - exceptional! Our guide Dee was fantastic - she gave us the right amount of fun facts, history, and humor. She loves Melbourne and now I do too. From explaining the bounciness of Federation Square, the emu and kangaroo on the Australia coat of arms, the Clocks, Chloe, and showing us many hidden secrets - chocolates, bakeries, shops, a whole-person kaleidoscope, graffiti, and many more things, she kept us smiling and interested. If you asked your spunky aunt to give you a private tour of her town, that is the experience you will get with Isabel! She has a great source of knowledge about Melbourne, and brought us around a number of hidden ally ways and streets showing us the street art and the eclectic array of restaurants that are nestled along the center of the city.
Isabel warmed right up to the group and by the end I felt like family. She was very fun to spend the afternoon with.

Ok and a few decent things but too short and too much money The concept of this tour is amazing as there are so many hidden ally's and gems, it's the best part of Melbourne. This tour isn't bad , but it's not great, it's ok. Definitely saw some great ally's and things I would have walked by on my own. For 3 hours, most of our time was standing around and listening to way too much history. And a long time having chocolate and tea. Which was a great spot. But we saw maybe 5 ally's , there are hundreds . The area walked was way to short , the route needs to be expanded exponentially and I would have wanted to see a lot more in 3 hours . Also it's was way too expensive for a 3 hour walking tour. It should be about $40 usd or less not $88 . I would probably do it again but feel like I paid way too much by a lot. In contrast I did an ocean road tour which was about 14 hours, the entire day and we traveled over 500 km, and it was about the same price at $98. What a great tour.
Even having lived in Melbourne (many many years ago) there was so much interesting info to learn.
So many great little alleyways that would be so easy to just walk past without knowing what pieces of magic can be found in them.

Excellent tour of the inner city. Our guide Melinda was both friendly and knowledgeable.
We found we learnt a lot about the city and there were plenty of opportunities to ask questions.
Best of all was the insider tips on places to visit, restaurants and bars. There really is a plethora of hidden secrets tucked away in the Laneways of Melbourne and this tour is the best way to discover them.

Our Lane and Arcade Walking Tour in Melbourne We had a fabulous time on our walking tour on Friday with Rob. Melbourne has such a fabulous history and the architecture is incredible. Rob told us of the music /rock history in AC/DC lane ..amazing. Would have been awesome to have been there! Please Melbourne keep what is left of the beautiful old buildings you have including their interior. They are stunning and once gone.. it’s gone!

Cannot recommend this trip more This was the highlight of our trip! We have been to Melbourne many times and learnt so much. Even our 14 year old son loved it and that says a lot. Deanne was so so knowledgable and went out of her way to make the experience very personalised,

Judith provided a friendly, fascinating tour through Melbourne's arcades and central area streets. We learned much about the city's past and present and she highlighted many 'hidden in plain sight' features that we would have missed on our own. A good pace, a nice chocolate surprise, and excellent value for a three hour walk.
