McLaren Vale Winery Experience - Small Group Tour
Duration:
Operated By:
Boutique Cellar Doors • Coastal Scenery • Regional Lunch
Enjoy a relaxed small-group wine tour to McLaren Vale, combining boutique cellar doors, local stories and some of South Australia’s most beautiful coastal scenery.
Your day begins with a scenic coastal drive south of Adelaide, showcasing the stunning beaches of the Fleurieu Peninsula — a favourite highlight for many guests and the perfect introduction to this world-class wine region.
While McLaren Vale is famous for its rich Shiraz, you’ll also discover a diverse range of varietals including Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Fiano, Vermentino, Tempranillo, and Sangiovese. Many wineries embrace organic and biodynamic practices, adding authenticity to every glass.
Our first winery visit is Maxwell Wines, one of McLaren Vale’s most iconic family-owned producers. Here you’ll enjoy a guided wine tasting featuring their renowned reds, with the opportunity to also sample their unique honey mead, made on site and loved by visitors looking to try something a little different.
Next, we visit Haselgrove Wines, a boutique cellar door known for its innovative style and premium small-batch wines, offering a wonderful contrast in flavour and winemaking approach.
Lunch is enjoyed at Richard Hamilton Wines, where you’ll relax over a regional platter lunch showcasing local produce, paired with a wine tasting overlooking the vineyards. On weekends, lunch may be hosted at Hugo Wines, an equally popular McLaren Vale venue, ensuring a consistently high-quality dining experience. Dietary needs can be accommodated with prior notice.
In the afternoon, we continue to Shottesbrooke Wines, a respected organic and biodynamic winery, producing elegant wines that beautifully reflect the character of the region — a fitting way to finish the day.

We visiting 2 wineries before our charcuterie lunch at a 3rd, then one more winery to finish the day. We also managed to squeeze in a short visit to the 'cube' and a winery known for their olive oil. One of our guests was very keen to buy some local olive oil. We all enjoyed the day and were good chums by the end. Bruce was full of local info as well as sharing his sense of humour.
The wineries were all good and the first one especially so. Each winery offered good information about their wines and we enjoyed all the samples! The charcuterie board was splendid and enough food for all. We had 3 boards for 6 people! It was a great visit to McLaren Vale!
Danny was an excellent tour guide and was very knowledgeable. He drove safely and gave a great commentary. I asked if we were going to go past the cube and he accommodated our requests and stopped there for great photo opportunities.
The wineries we visited were excellent. Maxwell's, Haselgrove, Hugo's and Wirra Wirra.
Adelaide's top food and wine tours is highly recommended and we plan to come back to Adelaide and do another tour at different wineries.
It was a wonderful day with lots of great wineries, food and most importantly, an expert guide.
Would thoroughly recommend!
A shortage of staff at one of the wineries unfortunately resulted in slow service and a reduction in wines offered.
He is so informative & told us just about everything that there is to know about the locations we visited & the sights that we saw.
The beautiful lunch was an added bonus by fast tracking the queues & the wine tasting was awesome aswell.
All in all, a great day out in the region, would definitely do it again & recommend to others.
Just opened & sampled the jam today, it was beautiful.
Thanks Danny, see you again next time we are in your neck of the woods.

The wineries were well selected and the lunch very delicious.
We did the tour in a group of 6 and I highly recommend taking small groups tour to have the opportunity to meet people and chat. Also, the pace is much more chill.
The meal included was lovely!
I highly recommend this tour!
NB: you should have breakfast before doing the tour because not every winery will serve you something to eat with the tasting.
Tasted wines from small, family run wineries which were handpicked to our taste.
Barossa Valley is very pretty with some stunning views. It feels a little of the beaten track and yet is only an hour away from Adelaide.
We had a very knowledgeable driver and learned a lot about Adelaide and the Barossa.
Absolutely loved it.
Our guide, Vince, was very friendly and knowledgeable.
A good time was had,
The 4 wineries we visited were all lovely. I did in particular like the last winery we visited as we could pick any 4 wines of our choice which was a lovely change.
I would like the winery company to consider people with not the same mobility as other guests and park where it is more accessible instead of having to climb a lot of stairs. And maybe another step to get into and out of the bus.
I did enjoy the tour but found not nearly enough time in Hahndorf. We only had 1 hour to explore Hahndorf which was not enough time and felt very rushed. The reason we picked this tour was mainly to see Hahndorf.
I would have preferred to have the extra time at Hahndorf instead of visiting the last winery which was only for 30 minutes.
I have some mobility issues and found getting on and off the bus okay, but having an extra step would have been a lot better.
Can highly recommend this tour
Being a small group, Danny was able to personalise the tour a little, like stopping at a chocolate shop in town along the way. Thanks for a great day out, Danny!
Awesome lunch included & Chateau Yaldara was our favourite with the lovely Susan making it a really fun tasting.
The driver was friendly and we had a small group so he suggested that we consequently had more flexibility than usual. He also stopped at a cheese stop (where we got a tasting of four cheeses) and a chocolate store (that didn't have a proper tasting available, it was only really a shop with a window into its production floor).
He never suggested we were choosing in between those stops and the fourth vineyard. If that was presented as an "either or" option, there is no doubt I would have chosen the fourth vineyard -- especially since the tour was supposed to cover the tasting fees for each of the four vineyards + lunch, but instead we only got three vineyards + lunch.
