Explore the sweeter side of Melbourne CBD
Join your local tour guide on a chocolate walking tour where we enjoy different tastes of milk and dark chocolate, learning the stories behind their makers as well as discovering some of the city’s laneways and arcades.
Please note: this tour requires a minimum of 4 participants to run.
What happens on the tour?
Meeting at St Paul’s Cathedral, opposite the iconic (and some would say controversial) Federation Square and famous Flinders Street station, you’ll join your local tour guide and your band of fellow chocolate lovers. Each tour has a maximum of 20 participants so no need for headsets on this tour!
You’ll usually find other locals joining our tours, also eager to uncover some of Melbourne’s hidden gems they were previously unaware of.
The tour commences with your local guide spending some time getting to know the group and explaining the itinerary for the afternoon’s walking tour. They will also spend a few valuable minutes talking about the correct way to taste chocolate. Yes, there is a right way and a wrong way and once you know how you’ll want to tell everyone else! Once armed with this knowledge you’re ready to embark upon your chocolate walking tour of Melbourne.
Over the course of about 90 minutes we will walk about two kilometres (1.2 miles) and visit four amazing chocolatiers and cafes. All of our partners offer couverture chocolate (the good stuff!). All of the places we visit are exclusively Australian and many are unique to Melbourne. They all have their unique tastings and experiences. While the specific partners we visit will vary from time to time (depending on their opening hours) we guarantee amazing chocolates on every tour.
On the chocolate walking tour, we will visit some of Melbourne’s most iconic arcades, chatting about the history and sharing some of the fascinating stories they hold. We’ll navigate down hidden laneways while your local guide points out some of their favourite haunts for drinks and dinner.
As we arrive at each chocolate store, we’ll spend some time getting to know the story behind the business and at some we are lucky enough to meet either the owner or the manager of the store (sometimes they are one and the same person!) before we enjoy our specially curated tasting experience.
There is then time to browse the store and take advantage of the exclusive participant discounts on offer before we compare notes on our favourites and continue our discovery. (Please note that all tour visits are pre-planned and there is no expectation for you to purchase products.)
The tour includes a lovely sit-down tasting experience where we rest those weary taste buds and share our favourite experiences from the afternoon.

Thanks a lot.

Well worth the money. It was a bonus to get 10% off any items purchased in the shops, too.
Lauren was fun and knowledgeable, sharing little tidbits about the places we visited. We were also afforded time to browse the stores at our leisure after each sampler. Overall, we made 5 stops this time, 2 at stores that happened to incorporate chocolate with their other offerings, 2 sit down places (a restaurant and a dessert place) and 1 actual chocolatier. All had very tasty and good quality chocolate, though favourites were still the dark ones.
Would recommend to anyone who wants to explore a bit of Melbourne with treats along the way.

I really enjoyed this tour. We sampled so much chocolate, cheese, tea, hot chocolate. I could go on. I can say I really ate my fill of chocolates
I was fortunate enough to also purchase some chocolate. Amanda had a personal relationship with each shop owner or employees.
Amanda had no control over the directions to the starting point we got from the website. We were a bit confused. But made it to the meeting point.
I’ve never been to Melbourne so any wrong turns we took were a bonus. Saw some things we hadn’t planned in advance. It turned out great
I recommend this your %110.

Tasting sessions were great and delicious. Very recommended for anyone who likes quality chocolate and desserts.

Jake made sure we had enough time to browse each store and shop at our leisure, which added a relaxed vibe to the tour. He was personable, engaging, and made the whole experience so enjoyable. We booked this tour as part of a staycation, and it was a great way to explore parts of Melbourne we hadn’t been to before. Highly recommend this experience, especially for locals looking for a fun and tasty adventure in their own city!

The arcades were interesting too and gave some time between tastings for taste buds to settle.

Highly recommend chocoholic tours and Jake

This tour isn't just tasting chocolate, it's learning about the history of chocolate in Melbourne along with an insight into the hidden gems this beautiful city has to offer.
We're from SE Melbourne and loved being tourists in our town for a day. Worth every penny. Thank you.

Tonya and molly were so approachable and kind. They pointed out places throughout the tour and got to know each person on the tour. They also recommended tours and where to see while in Melbourne. Will definitely be back ????

The tour takes you through some great little arcades and laneways which were all absolutely beautiful and a highlight of the tour.

Had the absolute delight of experiencing the 3 hour tour with my partner, led by the enthusiastic and knowledgeable Emily.
An experience more than just eating some chocolate, learning about the city, its history and culture, while also learning about AND getting to try a wide range of delicious chocolate along the way.
The staff at each and every store visited were extremely friendly and welcoming, excited to share some of their favourites from their chocolate offerings, all without any pushy or aggressive upselling tactics (the products spoke for themselves, we absolutely picked up some extra goodies throughout!)
As the highlight of my "special day", it was an absolute pleasure to share the journey with Emily and all the amazing chocolate (and more!) retailers!
