An Unforgettable Minjerribah Adventure
Looking for an immersive Indigenous cultural experience from Brisbane that perfectly combines ancient Aboriginal culture, iconic Australian wildlife, and the spectacular coastal landscapes of North Stradbroke Island? 🌊
Spend a full day discovering the magic of North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) in an intimate small group of no more than 11 guests. This curated journey seamlessly blends the island’s famous natural attractions with delicious local flavours and a dedicated 90-minute Quandamooka cultural experience led by Quandamooka man Matt Burns.
Scenic Journey from Brisbane
Your adventure begins with a comfortable transfer from Brisbane City by private minibus, followed by a scenic vehicle ferry cruise across beautiful Moreton Bay to Minjerribah. Your expert local guide will accompany you throughout the day, sharing insights into the island’s unique landscapes and rich history while you sit back and enjoy the ride.
Spectacular Coastal Scenery and Wildlife
Prepare to be amazed as you explore the famous North Gorge Walk at Point Lookout (Mulumba), widely regarded as one of the island’s most breathtaking locations. 🦘
- Coastal Wildlife Spotting: Follow the pristine coastal trail to capture sweeping views across the Pacific Ocean. Keep your eyes peeled for wild kangaroos grazing along the headland, as well as dolphins, turtles, and manta rays playing in the crystal-clear waters below.
- Majestic Whale Watching: Visiting between June and November? Enjoy front-row seats to one of nature’s greatest spectacles as humpback whales migrate along the Queensland coast.
A Taste of Local Island Flavours
Savour a genuine taste of Straddie with a relaxed lunch overlooking the spectacular Frenchmans Bay. Stop at Point Lookout’s iconic Prawn Shack to pick up their famous signature fresh prawn roll—a true local favourite enjoyed in a picture-perfect setting. 🦐
Sacred Lakes and Natural Springs
Delve deeper into the island’s natural wonders with visits to two highly significant ecological sites:
- Bummiera (Brown Lake): Admire this spectacular perched freshwater lake, beautifully fringed by native paperbark trees. Its distinctive amber-coloured water is naturally stained by surrounding tea trees, holding deep cultural significance for the Quandamooka People.
- Myora Springs (Capembah): Wander through a tranquil, naturally flowing freshwater wetland surrounded by lush melaleuca forest. This pristine environment has sustained generations of life on Minjerribah.
Authentic Quandamooka Cultural Experience
The absolute highlight of your day is an exclusive, deeply personal 90-minute Aboriginal cultural experience on Quandamooka Country, hosted by Quandamooka man Matt Burns. 🍃
- Traditional Welcome: Begin with a respectful Welcome to Country before Matt shares captivating stories, ancient cultural knowledge, and traditions passed down through generations.
- Interactive Demonstrations: Examine authentic cultural artefacts and witness live demonstrations of traditional tools, including fire-making, spear throwing, and boomerang techniques. You will even have the opportunity to try throwing a boomerang yourself!
- Didgeridoo and Ochre Painting: Listen to the powerful, resonant sounds of the didgeridoo and discover the traditional uses of natural ochres.
- Guided Bushwalk: Walk along the foreshore as Matt explains how the Quandamooka People read the signs of Country, utilising native plants for bush tucker, traditional medicines, soap, and rope.

We saw numerous whales and dolphins, a sea turtle, kangaroos in various places and even koalas!
Recommend The Prawn Shack for lunch after the board walk. Delicious.
Huge thanks to Ivy. This trip is highly recommended.
Antonin was kind, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and overall a great guide.
The tour included plenty of opportunities to view wildlife, flexibility for us to venture off from the group during lunch and beach time.
The water and sand at Cylinder Beach is beautiful, and warm. Peaceful at this time of year, not too crowded.
In the end, we took some detours, on the way back to the ferry, to spots to view more koalas and kangaroos as we didn’t get to see many on the North Gorge walk.
It’s clear Antonin strives to portray the importance of history of the island, its wildlife and respecting the flora and fauna.
Would highly recommend, suitable for all ages.
Wildlife seen: kookaburras, dolphins, sea turtles, manta ray, kangaroos, koalas, and more!
Any animal lovers dream, Merci!
Jack was an awesome host and from the moment he picked us up until the time he dropped us off we couldn’t have asked for a better service.
We loved everything from the ferry trip, to the wildlife, to the beach and the sunset.
We saw whales, dolphins, turtles, kookaburras, wallabies, ospreys, kites, eagles, kangaroos and koalas.
The beach was wonderful and it was wonderful to swim in the ocean.
We saw many whales, turtles, tuna, a Manta Ray, Koalas, Kangaroos, Wallabies, Kookaburras, eagles and other birds of prey, Pelicans and other native birds. There were impressive views throughout.
We left with a far better understanding of the island, its people and history and of course Australian nature.
Highly recommended!
Big thanks to the tourguide, he did his best to make it an incredible experience!
Also I liked, that we could observe animals while keeping some distance to them, so we don't disturb the wildlife!
I can really recomend this tour and already shared with some friends!
