Friendly staff and a sweet little shack. Plus great views to sit at near the water.

The venue itself has considerable charm. A dedicated viewing window for oyster shucking would be a valuable addition, as the current setup required navigating through garden seating—and a few bumblebees—just to catch a brief glimpse of the process. A clear, intentional shucking display would undoubtedly be a strong drawcard.
I noticed they offered scallop kebabs and portable cookers for visitors to take down to the waterfront and enjoy with a view, which is a thoughtful touch. Large decorative piles of oyster shells added character and hinted at potential for repurposing, such as agricultural pH balancers.
Although the venue is not open on public holidays, it remains a beautiful spot, complemented by craft beers and the appealing colours of the serving caravan. There is significant potential here, and despite a few areas for improvement, it is still very much worth a visit.
The oysters were outstanding and super fresh. Really friendly service and for a moment life doesn't get much better than this.
Lady boss was very friendly and explained a lot about their oysters farm. Do get both the silver and gold ones. Both are really good and goes well with the DIY grill.
The place is also nicely decorated.
The skewers were super tasty, and having the little BBQ at the table to cook them how we liked was such a fun touch! The gold oysters were buttery, flavour-packed, and all a great size.
We also loved the thoughtful touches in the decor, loads of oyster shells, floats, and old buoys all cleverly repurposed instead of ending up in the ocean.
The staff were absolutely lovely and made us feel so welcome. Totally worth the drive, and we’re already looking forward to our next visit, next time we’re across the strait.

Their gold oysters are absolutely amazing! Super juicy, fatty, and fresh—you can literally taste the ocean! 🌊 We originally planned to try the silver ones too to compare, but they sold out so fast 😭

This one surprised me in the best way 🥹 It was my first time trying mussels served cold, and they turned out better than expected! The sweet chilli sauce pairs perfectly. We wanted to order more, but—yep, sold out again 😭

They have a DIY BBQ option at your table where you can grill scallops, prawns, and oysters. Unfortunately, everything sold out quickly again, so we only managed to try the scallop. It was still delicious! The flavor is different from woodfire-grilled ones, but the BBQ version is still tasty—especially with the sauce and the bacon kebab on the side! 😋
We sat up on the bank which overlooks the river enjoying our oysters and glass of Chardonnay. Highly recommend the nimjam dressing too, although not necessary with how unbelievably fresh and tasty the oysters are on their own!
Haven’t had oysters so fresh for such a good price. Highly recommend making the trip here.
Thank you!
An incredible must-see gem along the scenic east coast. Fun, easygoing and photogenic; seating along the water, and stacks of oyster shells in creative displays - what more do you need to say 🤩
The owners are also super friendly and always down for a chat!
And the oysters - you can see why Melshell gets the reviews they do. Arguably the best we've ever had - freshly shucked, delicious and humongous for the price, this is a place absolutely worth the detour.
We also had the mussels served with lemon, steamed with white wine - these were big and juicy, very good as well.
For the highlight we got both gold and silver oysters but we actually found that we liked silver more than gold, gold had an interesting aftertaste but the silver was classic.
We ate 6 dozens amongst four people in that day because it was just so good. there were also a few in house dressings that we tried which were all great.
Service is also great, the people working there were super friendly. Venue is cute and has a nice vibe & view whilst you’re eating oysters.
Amazing experience, will be back if we’re ever in tassie again 🩷
We tried their silver oyster and their mussels. Both were very fresh. The oysters were plump and large (bigger than all other oysters we’ve tried in Tassie). The flavour of the oysters was clean and crisp - perfect for those like me who prefer less creamy oysters.
There are plenty of seating in the area. If the weather is nice, look for the seats overlooking the oyster farm.
Love that they collect and reuse all the oyster shells. Hopefully, we’ll be able to try their gold oysters in our next visit.
I'm so sad I don't live here. Great view, nice people. Deserving of a detour to visit, and you'll want to go back!!
We ordered half a dozen natural to eat there and also took a dozen unshucked to do later!
Great play area for the kids. We could have stayed for hours!!
The BEST oysters my partner and I have ever had and the staff were super friendly. Due to our bushfire experience the night before, they even gave us some of the giant oysters for free. Cant wait to go back.
Oysters, a drink and beautiful view????.
The oysters - just amazing. We have always had great oysters in Tasmania and Melshell is right up there!
But to sit looking out over Pelican Bay on a lovely spring day was absolute heaven!
Be sure to stop at Melshell Oyster Shack near Swansea. You can thank me later!

I have never heard of gold oysters but I can safely say they were the tastiest oysters I have ever had. Nothing comes close.
Staff were really nice and it's a well set up area. My son loved the sand pit
Decided to drop in and see what they had to offer.
We bought 1/2dozen of mixed. Gold and silver.
Never had a gold oyster before and wanted to see the difference.
The gold oyster was plump and buttery.
The silver was also plump but crisp and salty. Loved them both????
We also bought a serving of pickled octopus.????????
Absolutely a gem of a place and 100% worth the drive just for them gold oysters. Honestly every oyster we shall ever have, will be compared to this place forever more! Best oysters hands down. We ordered a dozen of the gold oysters EACH, washed down with local craft beers with a spectacular view. Service was great & everyone was super friendly. Definitely on the "we'll be back list"
What a great concept, it feels like you are out in the middle of no where.
Golden lip oysters, kilpatrick skewers, served with your own stove to cook them.
To hard to explain. Just go and live the experience. Unbelievable.
Loved it.
Oyster pate’ exceptional.
Go and enjoy.
Also has a toilet and running water to wash up after eating the oysters .
This is the best place to eat oysters .
Love the wild area and landscape ????
The experience was a whole nother level and the freshness of the oysters are unbeatable. The best oysters we’ve had throughout our trip????
The lady (sorry I didn’t get your name) running the store was beautiful, she told us about the types of oysters that’s available and what she usually recommends. We went with half regular and half golden oysters.
These oysters are huge, like twice the size of your regular oysters. And the prices are extremely reasonable as well. You’ve got heaps of seating options, but we had to choose the one overlooking the sea.
The drive in was straightforward, you could either use google maps or simply follow the street signs that lead you there. Parking won’t be an issue.
We cannot recommend this place enough if you love your oysters!
The ladies there were very friendly. We also had the pleasure of meeting Homer ????????
10/10 would come back again for more!!
