Your Unforgettable Itinerary

Day 1: Into the Wilderness

Your adventure begins with a scenic 4WD drive to the trailhead, where you will set off on a 3-kilometre walk to the iconic Lake McKenzie (Lake Boorangoora). Wander beneath towering eucalyptus trees as a chorus of native birds welcomes you to this paradise. You will arrive at Lake McKenzie’s secret beach, where you can swim in the crystal-clear waters and enjoy the absolute tranquillity of the lake all to yourselves. 🌊

Your knowledgeable guide will meet you with a freshly prepared morning tea (cake, tea, and coffee) in the picnic area before directing you to the next trail. This path leads you through the serene Basin Lake to the lush rainforests of Central Station and the Wangoolba Creek boardwalk. Walk beneath majestic rainforest giants before meeting your guide for a delicious picnic lunch of fresh salads and cold meat sandwiches.

In the afternoon, stroll along the pristine Wangoolba Creek to Pile Valley. Here, your guide will share fascinating insights into the unique flora and rich history of K’gari. A comfortable 4WD transfer will then whisk you away to your accommodation at Eurong on K’gari’s Eastern Beach.

As evening falls, arrive at the well-equipped Bringabeeralong Beach House for your night’s accommodation in comfortable quad-share rooms. Our friendly volunteers will prepare a wholesome dinner of fish or chicken stir-fry. Cap off your day with a stroll to the beach for a spectacular evening star show (weather permitting) as anticipation builds for Day 2. ✨

Day 2: Coastal Wonders & Ancient Giants

Rise with the sun and fuel up with a continental breakfast (selection of cereals, toast, fruit, tea, and coffee) before setting off to explore the coastal wonders of K’gari.

Walk along pristine, windswept beaches where the salty breeze and rhythmic crash of the waves invigorate your senses. Keep your eyes peeled for playful dolphins or whales dancing in the surf, and majestic seabirds soaring overhead. We exit the beach at Happy Valley and transfer to the trailhead of the K’gari Great Walk. Enjoy a scenic 4km walk to the tea-tree infused waters of Lake Garawongera, where your guide will meet you with a picnic lunch of fresh salads, cold meats, and wraps, with plenty of time for a refreshing swim.

After lunch, your guide will transfer you by 4WD along an old historic tram track deep into the rainforest to an exclusive, ancient area of K’gari where no other tours go: the majestic Valley of the Giants. Walk 5 kilometres along a well-signed track beneath towering, ancient trees to the walkers’ camp. Here, enjoy afternoon tea and learn how these giant trees remarkably grow directly out of the sand. 🌳

After a brief stop at the colossal Giant Tallowwood tree, your guide will transfer you back to the barge landing at Kingfisher Bay Resort. Enjoy a relaxing drink before boarding the ferry back to the mainland as the setting sun paints the sky in fiery hues of orange and pink.
