Silver Bullet High Tea Experience– Departs Thursday and Fridays

Prepare to be delighted aboard the Heritage Silver Bullet Railmotor 2000 Class. This experience departs the Historic Gympie Station for a scenic journey winding through the beautiful hills of the Mary Valley.
This onboard experience includes:
Glass of wine onboard (can be substituted for soft drink can or water)
Variety of sweet treats
Station made savoury treats
Bottomless tea and coffee served by your service attendant
This 2 hour experience allows you to sit back, relax and enjoy the views.
A selection of cold and alcoholic beverages is available for purchase from the onboard menu via your service attendant.
Please note, the RM2000 Railmotor has the capacity to accommodate wheelchairs on board. Please contact us on (07) 5482 2750 to ensure availability for your travel date before booking. Please note ramp access is available please mention in your notes if ramp access is required.
Tips for the trip!
Check in at the Tour Desk at least 30 minutes before departure chat with the volunteer drivers and guides, explore the historic Gympie Station, retail shop and historical museum. Make sure you bring your camera!

From the breakfast in the Cafe, with the most enjoyable piano encompanyment, to the the lovely Cafe at Amamoor & the guitar/ukele concert.

Weather was beautiful and the service second to none.  Lovely time spent in Amamoor before watching the engine on the spinning platform to join up to the other end of the train.  Thoroughly enjoyed our time on the train.  Lunch of lamb shanks with mash and veggies and desert of caramel cookie cake and ice cream was the icing on top.  Highly recommend this for a relaxing day trip.

					Absolutely loved our trip on the Mary Valley Rattler! It honestly felt like stepping right back in time.



The heritage train is beautifully maintained, and chugging through the scenic valley was just gorgeous.

What really made the day special were the volunteers—they are super friendly, full of great stories, and clearly love what they do.

Definitely recommend booking your tickets online in advance so you don't miss out.

					We had THE BEST day out today on the Silver Bullet High Tea Train. Lovely people looking out for you ( we loved John), and a really nice morning tea. Having a glass of bubbles or two made it pretty special. We would highly recommend.

The whole trip was well organised from start to finish.  The seating was comfortable and the VIP carriage though at capacity was not crowded.  The volunteer staff were all very attentive, helpful and knowlegable.  The trip itself  was leisurely with the vintage sound of the steam engine hauling the carriages through the lush green properties of the Mary Valley to Amammoor, where the station has a cafe for refreshments and situated alongside the rail line to observe the steam train on the turntable in preparation for the return trip.   Back ot Gympie station, the lunch and the service was excellent to round off a great morning.

					A special slice of history awaits you on the Mary Valley Rattler. It was a wonderful way to spend a morning in Gympie and to learn about the history of the railway and the towns of Gympie and Amamour. From the moment you arrive at the old Gympie Railway Station, you step into yesteryear. The piano player in the cafe, the period signage and once you begin the journey, the volunteers share their knowledge with you along the way. The audio was loud and clear and we learnt about the old traditions that are still so important today. We also learnt about the Diablo ginger beer, the ginger plants being cultivated in the fields across from the railway. It was a real treat. Thank you.

It was lovely travelling through the valley. We enjoyed the food we'd purchased and the market, shops and cafe at Amamoor. What made our day so special was having the train attacked by robbers on horseback and having our gold stolen. The volunteers were welcoming, and it was clear that safety is a strong priority throughout the journey.



One helpful tip for visitors—when using Google Maps, make sure you search for Mary Valley Rattler in Gympie, as it can sometimes direct you to Amamoor Station instead.



It was interesting learning about Gympie’s gold mining history and hearing stories about the original railway line built in 1911 by immigrants and locals, taking three years to construct. Crossing Deep Creek and travelling at a slower pace gave us time to take in the scenery and history of the region.



We found the intercom system on the train very loud at times, which made parts of the commentary a little overwhelming.



The café staff at Gympie Station were also friendly and welcoming, both at the station and when they boarded the train. The train also offers a “Pets On Board” experience on selected days, which is a great option for dog owners.



Overall, a unique experience that highlights local history, volunteers, and the character of travelling through the Mary Valley.

It was great. Only downer was a storm passing through Amamoor just as we arrived. We shared a small table for 2 with comfortable chairs, complimentary bottled water and cheese and crackers plate each. We were met at Amamoor by a C&W singer with a smooth voice and some market stalls while we watched the engine being turned around on the turntable.

For some reason we did not stop at Dagan on the return trip and so missed the wine and cheese tasting that's mentioned on their website. A little disappointing.

Overall the experience was well worthwhile and enjoyable, the commentary provided while on the trip was informative and interesting and all volunteers were extremely friendly and helpful to the extent that as my wife is not a large eater, it was arranged for her provided lunch to be presented in a takeaway container for her to enjoy later - which she did.

It was fantastic from start to finish. The volunteer staff were all amazing and full of knowledge. The cafe at the station in Gympie was wonderful as was the little museum. The train was wonderful with very comfortable seats. The high tea and complimentary glass of bubbles was delicious . Holly brought endless top ups of tea and coffee.

What a treat. We did the Friday high-tea on the Silver Bullet rail car. Such a fun journey. The food and service from the volunteers was superb, plenty of room on the train and nice scenery. This is a great trip and is an easy drive from Noosa, where I was staying.

					I had the best day yesterday on this great train. Grab your dog a friend or two and do this wonderful train trip. If your dog doesnt enjoy loud noises give it something to keep it calm the whistle is loud. I gave my golden girl some Dr Chris calm balls. She was great. The stairs at Amamior where a little challenging for her but she got there beautifully after a bit of hesitation. The trains clickity clack lulls you into a time long gone of gentle imaginings. The green hills and quaint houses along the route, just joyous. Do your dog and your nervous system a big treat and book this you won't regret it. My gluten free cheese cake was delicious and all the volunteers are so cheerful and full of info. 5 stars.

Carriage supervisor Ralph was very good. He engaged with us and was very informative.



Part of our VIP experience included a meal at the station cafe, unfortunately this was not good which  rather spoilt the end of the trip for us all.  The staff in the cafe were excellent however the food really let them down.



Would recommend the train but avoid the VIP experience.

We have been wanting to do this experience for some years and what better way to celebrate my 60th birthday by travelling back in history on the Mary Valley Rattler train. 



 The local cheese platter, water on board in a memorable stubby holder, awaited us on arrival. The journey exceeded our expectations and the food served for lunch on return was delicious. Highly recommend 👌

All processes, from the initial booking & today taking the trip, were very straightforward and professionally handled. No problems at all. We just relaxed and enjoyed the experience.

In our carriage we were seated together on comfortable couches with a table to put out our snacks. 

Our pre purchased snacks were ready for us when we arrived this morning. 

The 45 minute stop in Amamoor was interesting and passed very quickly & productively. It gave us a chance to see what was on show at the little town, buy food, drinks and souvenirs, take photos, plus watch the locomotive being turned around on the turntable for the return trip.

Our carriage assistant, Meredith, was pleasant & informative. As well there was a great commentary given on the PA system at appropriate times by Cate. 

All of the team of volunteers were very helpful and friendly. Well done drivers on a smooth ride.

					This was a really good day out with my client. All the staff from entry to Carriage attendants were friendly and knowledgable. A great couple of hours to spend with your kids. Easy to find , good parking and food, coffee and drinks options

					This experience is a treasure! What a lovely thing to do with family. Very relaxing and so much beautiful scenery to take in. We had three generations in our party and everyone had a great time. I cannot recommend this enough, such an asset to Gympie.

We loved it — even more than we expected!



We took my mum from England along with my two kids (11 and 13), and it was so nice to see them genuinely engaged in everything our guide, Ryan, shared. He was young, enthusiastic, and clearly passionate about steam trains and railways — it was wonderful to see that kind of excitement!



The scenery was stunning, and the stops along the way were great. The cheese and wine tasting was a lovely touch too.



We had such a fantastic day — highly recommend a trip on the Rattler! ❤️

We had a great morning with my parents who were visiting from the UK, as a local I can't believe we've never been before. Wonderful experience traveling in historic carriage, pulled by mesmerising steam train. Great commentary & lovely staff ( Ray was our carriage guide). Didn't break the bank & had  great $20 lunches at The Australian afterwards.

Small group of 4 adults. We had an enjoyable trip on a lovely old Red Rattler. The train rocked and rolled its way through beautiful scenery. Watching the loco being turned around on the turntable for the return trip was really interesting. The little market and General Store at  Aramoor were good, I made a purchase. Unfortunately the craft/art shop isn’t open on Wednesdays but it looked worth a visit. The rail volunteers were lovely and informative and very willing to have a chat. Well worth a visit.

Ralph in the 1st class was excellent as was the English announcer and the coach guard.

The booking was extremely.

Atmosphere was great with a really good sense of fun plus a sensible degree of safety precautions.

The train and the coaches were quite beautiful and the speed recreated an older sense of dignity while so much less hectic than modern transport. Above all it was restful and allowed one to actually see the countryside.

I cannot think of anything that I could criticise. The food and seating in our 1st class carriage was perfect and the station and museum were most interesting.

We have already recommended the Rattler to friends in the last 24 hours and will continue to do so.

It was the perfect activity for a spring day in southern Queensland. The train itself, especially the locomotive is a treasure. We loved the views and the interesting history we learned about the railroad and its importance to the region. All of the volunteers were very friendly. We chose the VIP experience, and it was well worth the extra cost. The lunch was much better than I expected. Thanks for making it a memorable day!

The high tea was very basic, store bough cakes cut up and a few small savouries. However they did provide a gluten free plate for one of our members which was appreciated. The staff were wonderful and we all enjoyed the complementary train chocolate and the cold towel to cool us down.

Just to clarify, the majority of our High Tea selection is actually handmade right here in our Rusty Rails Café kitchen, using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. A small number of specialty cakes are brought in to complement the variety on offer.

We had a VIP experience on the Mary Valley which was a very enjoyable day. Upon boarding you were given a mixed platter each, bottle of water and a stubbie holder to keep as a memento. The journey was relaxing and you were given commentary along the way. 

Once you reached Amaroo you were able to disembark and walk around the market and shops then witnessed how the train engine was uncoupled and turned around to be begin the journey back to Gympie. 

When we arrived back at Gympie we were seated in the cafe and served a two course meal which was part of the experience. The food was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. 

The “crew” on the train are all volunteers and were very helpful, informative and happy! Would highly recommend this experience.

					Sensational experience on this steam engine.  Customer service from all staff was outstanding.  The views from the carriage were fabulous.  Stops at Amamoor and Dagun station were great thanks to those communities providing stalls at the stations.  Well done to all the volunteers who contributed to make our trip memorable.

Such a great trip! The guys that keep this old girl running are all volunteers and they are all very passionate about her. Their knowledge and stories are amazing to listen to.

It was like going back in time. The little village where she stops to turn around on the turning circle was so welcoming and friendly.

Tip. Take some cash as there are a few market stalls selling homemade items made by the locals.

A throughly enjoyable trip. Would definitely recommend

					What a great experience! The trip was relaxing, informative and enjoyable. The high tea on offer was enjoyable. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The cafe was a great start for brekky before the journey, the museum and the shop offered some insight into the history of rail.

					🇦🇺Aussie Traveller we went on the Mary Valley Rattler today out of Gympie.  The old Steam Train and carriages have been immaculately restored.  The staff and Conductors are all Volunteers which is a great credit to all involved. Well worth the trip, it took about 1 hour each way. When we got to Amamoor  they had a little market, music and a Cafe.  We had a great day.

					We did the ‘Wizard’ experience on Saturday night. If I  would change anything it would be to experience the steam train during the daytime. There was not a lot of experiences regarding it being a Wizard experience, that in hindsight made the night trip worth doing. The journey was great as was sunset. After that there was nothing to see. Seeing the turntable for the train to turn around was great.

					One's first (grand)fathers' day has to be something special. What more special than your own booth in a steam driven train? 4 adults and a baby, we had all the space we needed and Meredith, our service manager to boot.

Great catering during the trip, nice communities at the stations and a good dinner to top off what will be a long lasting memory to cherish.

A great experience. Run entirely by volunteers both young & old. 

Very comfortable seating & lovely cheese platter for each of us at our table. 

A pleasant stop at Amamoor where we watched the loco being turned on the turntable. Everything ran smoothly. 

On our return we had a beautiful 2 course meal (beef cheeks, so tender, panna cotta & Nutella choc mousse cake). Also a rum & red wine. 

Excellent value. Excellent experience. Would highly recommend.

Seats at a table, small cheese and crackers plate and bottled water while on the way up the line. The beautiful train stops at Amamoor a cute little village where they had a choral group singing for us, market stalls, a general store, toilets and a restaurant. Back on the train on the return trip we stopped for half an hour at Dagun .tiny place. We wandered around the station looking at the stalls and there was wine and cheese tasting too. When we arrived back at Gympie we enjoyed a delicious two course lunch included in our VIP experience. There is a gift shop in the gorgeous old railway station so we bought some souvenirs of our wonderful steam train trip. We highly recommend this !

					Loved the steam train ride. Anamore a great little stop to turn the train around. We did the pet carriage our boy was very comfortable and there was a bowl for water for him if needed. The guard chatted for awhile to make sure we were happy with the ride. The staff are great both on the train and at the station lovely little Cafe and shop/museum.

					Great experience all round. Great food and coffee at Cafe, so if you have an early start, just have bfast there. Service is fast and top. Train experience was lovely with each carriage having it's own staff to advise of the history. Great day. Thanks to all the volunteers that makes this possible.

Experiencing this old train trip is a must in the Gympie area. It is so nostalgic and special riding on the old steam train. From booking through to boarding, then the train ride itself, the process is seamless. The staff are so friendly and obliging. Mostly run by volunteers who are fantastic. Our train carriage attendants (Lee and John) were so passionate about what they do, competent and welcoming. We were aboard for 3 hours with a halfway stop at Amamoor where there was live music, refreshments and food available to purchase.

The high tea was lovely with 2 tiered platters which had savouries and sweets and a good plentiful selection. With it you could have a soft drink, sparking rose, or brut as well as coffee or tea including herbal teas. You were offered multiple refills of tea and coffee. The country scenery was lovely, and the slightly rocky train ride was fun. There was a stop at a station halfway through where you could do wine and cheese tastings if you like, and then a trip back with a chocolate treat and more tea and coffee. Highly recommended!

From the start when we were received at the Old Gympie Station, we had a fabulous fresh breakfast to the stop in Amamoor and Daigo, where we tasted Cheadle and wines. We had a tea/coffee in the Rusty Rails Cafe before boarding and decided to eat lunch there when we returned.



The train travelled from Gympie to Dagun. We crossed the Mary River, passed beautiful farms and could not have asked for a more delightful day weather wise. I got to go up and chat to the driver and guard which was an unexpected treat. When we reached Dagun we enjoyed a cheese and wine tasting which was very tasty. 



The service on board was amazing and the staff were incredible.

					We had a great day enjoying the beautiful train and great views. Our carriage tour guide was a young man who was really passionate about this  train and the local area. We stopped at two stations and had the opportunity to meet some locals, hear some live music and taste some local produce. All in all a great experience that I highly recommend.

					We upgraded to the VIP package which includes for each person a platter of mixed cheese, crackers and assorted treats. Bottled water and a stubbie cooler    were also provided and lunch options after the trip. I ordered beef cheeks which were cooked beautifully. Train crew members were all very friendly and knowledgeable as were station and booking staff. The return trip to Amamoor was relaxing and there was plenty of time to wander at the programmed stops and check out the local markets etc. Combined with glorious weather, it was a totally enjoyable experience.
