The Southern Forests and Valleys region is located in WA’s beautiful South West and features some of the tallest karri, jarrah, marri and tingle trees in WA. These sky-scraping trees have a lush understory with wildflowers, moss and fungi which makes for a delight when hiking through the forests. Off The Beaten Track WA has carefully crafted a very special Southern Forests Weekender featuring the best hiking trails around Pemberton, Western Australia.
You’ll hike through the forests by day and relax and unwind in your chalet set amongst the karri trees by night! Plus dine at the best local wineries and restaurants including Karri Valley Resort and Treehouse Tapas Bar! Three amazing days hiking, complimented with stunning accommodation and gourmet catering supplied by local providers – this is the Southern Forests Weekender Experience!
Off The Beaten Track WA provides a trained and experienced Guide/Host for our Hiking Experiences & Adventure Tours. We carry two-way communication devices, a personal location beacon when phone signal is not available and we’re a fully licensed, insured and accredited Western Australian tourism business providing hiking and adventure experiences with a twist!
Day 1 | Friday
We’ll depart Perth with our eyes set on Pemberton, stopping at the Old Coast Rd Brewery in Myalup for a bite to eat along the way. We’ll stretch our legs with a short hike around Big Brook Dam before we head to our chalets at the Karri Valley Resort. Dinner tonight will be at the Jaspers Whisky Bar, so prepare for your tastebuds to be delighted!
Day 2 – Saturday
Fuel up with a cooked breakfast made from ingredients in our breakfast basket before we hit the trails for a 8km hike along the Bibbulmun Track. Today we start at the Gloucester Tree and finish at the picturesque Cascades. You’ll hike along a former railway filled with fungi and wildflowers, through lush karri forest, past moss covered logs and an abundance of fungi!
After we’ve worked up an appetite we’ll whisk you away to a local winery for lunch before we head back to the resort for some down time. Eager hikers may wish to join us for an optional 4km hike around the lake and to Beedalup Falls, others may just want to relax and take in the serenity on the deck overlooking the forest.
Tonight we enjoy two delicious courses at the Karri Valley Resort!
Day 3 – Sunday
After another delicious breakfast, we’ll check out of our accommodation, and we’ll completely immerse ourselves in a 11km loop trail in the Warren River National Park. You’ll be captivated by the towering karri trees as the trail loops and winds through the forest leading you over hills, down gullies, past the Warren River and across moss covered bridges. We’ll enjoy lunch at a local bistro before hitting the road and driving back to Perth.

Absolutely recommend
We learnt lots about the local area on the way thanks to their great knowledge and spent a lot of time laughing. Would definitely join again and had a great time!
OFF THE BEATEN TRACK, led by Tracy and with wonderful help from Sarah and Anne Marie.
Every part of the walk was explained and advice was given.
The break in the middle was welcome, with tea and refreshments and a lovely platter of biscuits and cheeses and strawberries and other items.
Thank you for supplying the walking poles to me as a newby.
I thoroughly enjoyed the walk as a 77 year old senior.

As always, the experience was exceptional from start to finish. Our guides (Mikey and Kym) were outstanding – knowledgeable, supportive, and full of good humour – which made the whole trip even more enjoyable. We had plenty of laughs along the way, were treated to gourmet food, and even enjoyed some wine tasting on the journey back.
Everything was so well organised and thoughtfully planned. I always feel looked after and inspired on these trips.
Can’t wait to join OTBT for more adventures in the future!
Highly recommend.
Super fun and friendly.- will definitely be signing up for more adventures.
Australia is a world way away from many of us, and it takes a lifetime to fully experience everything it has to offer. Don't hesitate to do your research well ahead of your visit and benefit from the insider knowledge/tips that OTBT can share with you. Thank you, Tracy and Sarah!
I’m not a strong confident swimmer but the partnering tour companies were awesome and supplied life jackets or pool noodles to make me feel comfortable in the deep ocean.
The tours were amazing, the snorkelling surreal and can be summed up as WOW!!! No hesitation in recommending, even if your not a confident swimmer - book it I travelled with my husband who was also impressed and exceeded all expectations
From our first gorgeous sunset views at Vlamingh Lighthouse to our last stunning sunrise from Charles Knife Canyon, this trip was amazing!! The hikes were tough but worth it! Yardie Gorge and Mandu Mandu Gorge!! We got to see wildlife everywhere including Ospreys, bats and black flanked rock wallabies. The stunning Ningaloo reef experiences were even better than I had ever imagined! From sea kayaking, snorkeling, the glass bottom boat trip and the unbelievable Whaleshark experience! We saw whalesharks, turtles, dolphins, dugong, giant clams and so many reef fish! This is a trip I'll never forget. Thanks to our awesome guide Sarah for making this such an unforgettable experience.
Will be back for the guided multi days hike next time !
Accommodation in Albany was great, very central to cafe's and restaurants where we dined and the food was delicious.
First hike on the Bald Head Trail was challenging but the views were breathtaking.
Our second hike had to be cancelled due to weather conditions but the alternative was organised immediately including our winery lunch. We hiked Mount Hallowell in Denmark and this hike was fantastic definitely a contrast from the previous day and the views at the top were astounding.
We also did a sunrise hike to Point King Lighthouse ruins which was not on our itinerary but our guides went out of their way to get up early to take us and the sunrise was spectacular.
Will definitely do another tour with OTBT
