The "City of Adelaide Clipper Ship" Paranormal Lockin
Duration:
Operated By:
Are you ready to get locked inside the oldest surviving clipper ship in the world—the City of Adelaide!
The ship hold many adventures since its launching in 1863. The ship made 23 annual return voyages from London and Plymouth to Adelaide, and was responsible for 250,000 descendants of the first settlers in South Australia. After her sailing career in 1893, the ship became a floating isolation hospital, caring 23 cases of scarlet fever in just one year of operation, until it was purchased by the Royal Navy in 1923.
The 154-year-old clipper ship was known to have many deaths recorded during its operation. During the lock-in, you will have the chance to investigate about the 7 people who died on its first voyage to Adelaide. The lock-in includes an exclusive access to the lower decks of the ship, which is not available on day tours or to the touring public.
Our team will provide you with all the paranormal equipment needed including EMF meters and EVP devices. Our investigators will gladly show you how to use these apparatus and teach you how to investigate and capture evidences of the paranormal.
Paranormal groups with their own equipment are more than welcome to book.

She started out by apologising for reading from a printed script, saying she’d just begin doing that and regaling us with some “cool stories” later, but she read from the script THE ENTIRE TOUR. The script didn’t have any flow or segues, just a series of disjointed paragraphs and was terribly timed - hardly any of the stories matched up with the location (the skipper interjected several times to say “Yes, that happened back there a bit” or “We haven’t got there yet”)
There were some audio technical challenges, in that the Oktoberfest celebrations were being held on Pinky Flat on the riverbank that night and the sound system was LOUD. Jo claimed not to know the event was on - what kind of tour guide doesn’t know the MAJOR events that are going on in their city, especially when they might impact on their own tour? Rather than adjust her commentary to avoid speaking right next to the amplified speakers blasting dance music, she tried to compete with the noise! She kept mentioning it as well, which refocused our attention back to the music and the spectacle of 1000 people dressed in lederhosen and dirndls, rather than our tour.
When it came to the more shocking and gruesome crimes (which exactly what you’re expecting to hear on a “Ghost and Crime Tour”, no???) she almost burst into tears and was visibly shaking when she read out the story, skimming over the details. Violent crime should not be romanticised or celebrated, but I believe it’s important to tell these stories respectfully and truthfully to understand the human psyche and Adelaide’s dark hidden history. She did not do this at all. I got so bored towards the end, I amused myself by wildlife spotting along the banks (pelicans! ducks! herons!) The script ran out 5 whole minutes before we docked, so it was spent listening to music, instead of the promised “cool stories”.
For someone who claims to have been a history teacher, plus apparently running this specific tour for FIVE YEARS, I would have expected basic knowledge of riverside landmarks, adaptability to challenges and a greater level of storytelling prowess in front of an audience. A person who’d never set foot in Adelaide previously could have walked in off the street, read from the script themselves and been more engaging.
The ship is stunning and the "tour" side of the night taught us just how amazing her life was! And why she deserves to live on..
Our guide Jo was amazing, so welcoming and fun. She had everyone feeling comfortable and at ease from the moment we arrived. She's full of knowledge and is so easy going and you can just tell how much she loves what she does... thanks so much Jo. We look forward to seeing you again!
Jo is so knowledgeable and it is obvious how much she loves what she does. Such a massive personality and hilarious. Definitely recommend Ghost Crime Tours and the amazing Jo!
Thanks Jo. We can’t wait for our next adventure.
Thanks for a great night. We would highly recommend this tour.
Now we just need to find out his connection to the ship. Fascinating.
Will definitely be looking at doing more of Jo’s investigations.
When we got seated into the room upstairs, the person hosting the 4 hour session stated to explain how to use the equipment to what she hardly didn’t know how to explain she keep changing on how everything worked. She then went into saying that we can use apps if we want to but shouldn’t be using our Apps for the evening.
Then she gave us the equipment and told as to go off on our own, problem was that there was people including my party that haven’t even been there we asked her just to give us a quick guide of where stuff was to what she then turned into a long story about her experiences around the place upstairs that wasn’t including the rooms in the basement to what we didn’t know about until almost half way through the night.
When we decided to go into the nursery to investigate more the host came in to give us another equipment to use, when she found out we were using an app she wasn’t happy about it telling us that it’s not good and that, ( the app we use has been used, tested and verified by more than 4 different investors from different groups over Australia and the world) the equipment she gave us she asked if we knew what it was “sprit box” i told her what it was to that she said no and then said the exact same thing that I said it was.
The whole time there me and my friend felt unsafe and uncomfortable not because of the ghost but because of the guide, the whole night felt very very off putting.
We’ve been to different places with many different groups and host but by far this was the worst experience/host
Worth doing, Laura was excellent and full of facts as a tour guide. The stories and deaths in the town topped it off and very interesting hearing of the towns past! Tour went longer than expected so we can say we got our moneys worth on the night! The North Kapunda Hotel was very interesting and we also got in the Chapel St Theatre in Kapunda!
Highly recommend!
