We had an incredible Collectors Tasting experience at Jim Barry. George (10/10 for wine knowledge, storytelling skill prowess and good humour) took us on a journey from whites to reds, ending on sampling three vintages of Armargh Shiraz as a highlight. As a committed Riesling girl, the opportunity to compare vintages of Florita Riesling was also a delight. Coincidentally, the 2025 Armagh was being sampled in the lab and we were able to have a taste just as we were finishing up - what a treat! Highly recommend this premium experience to wine lovers visiting the region.

Our experience at Jim Barry Wines was one of the highlights of our Clare Valley visit. The tasting felt incredibly comfortable, cosy and intimate, more like being welcomed into a friend’s home than attending a formal cellar door experience.



Our hostess, Sue, was exceptional — warm, engaging and deeply knowledgeable. Rather than simply presenting the wines, she shared the stories behind the winery, the vineyards and the family in a way that felt like a conversation around a dinner table. Her passion for the wines was genuine and infectious, making the entire experience both educational and enjoyable.



The thoughtfully prepared cheese and snack platter was a wonderful touch, complementing the wines beautifully and helping to bring out different layers of flavour throughout the tasting. Combined with the relaxed atmosphere and outstanding hospitality, it was a memorable experience that we would highly recommend to anyone visiting Clare Valley.

					Fantastic wine tasting at the cellar door. I choose the discovery tasting - 5 wines for $15. The member of staff was perfect, knowledgeable, interested, looking after 5 different groups.

There was a good choice of wines and you could go at whatever pace you wanted to.

The tasting was free with $50 spend.

Lovely views.

I recommend.

					Amazing wine tasting experience today at Jim Barry cellar door! The experience was relaxed, educational with fantastic unique wines that you won’t find anywhere else.

George looked after us and he was brilliant. He is very knowledgeable and really happy to share his insights.

Jim Barry is a well known South Australian winery but today we were able to sample and buy some brilliant award winning smaller batch wines.

					We dropped in with our dog for a last minute tasting (did not book). We focused on the Rieslings and of course, they did not disappoint.

Our cellar door manager was knowledgeable but also afforded us some privacy whilst checking in with other guests.

We gratefully appreciated the opportunity for our dog to come into the cool cellar door on a hot 34°C summer day.

As per most Australian wineries, they charge a small feel for the tasting which is then taken off any purchase (completely acceptable and appropriate to compensate for staffing and time).

Would recommend to anyone who enjoys the knowledge along with good humour & stories On our first visit to Jim Barry’s in April 2024, George was our host. He amazed me with his depth of wine and glassware knowledge. 

Needless to say, it was a must on our next visit (Dec 2025) to bring my grown up children to share this wonderful experience in tasting Assyrtiko and The Armagh, amongst the wine tasting selection of our choosing. Sue was our host and we loved her knowledge, friendliness and helpfulness. 

I always look forward to my deliveries so I can continue to enjoy great wine, gift to special friends and make great memories when sharing a bottle with my family.

It ended up being a great day out, which we truly enjoyed.  if you are heading out to Clare, I would highly recommend this experience, well worth the price tag!



Our tasting was with Sue, who was warm, relaxed, and incredibly knowledgeable. She explained everything in such an easy, enjoyable way. A cheese and snack platter was waiting for us, along with expertly set glasses, and the view overlooking the rolling hills and Armagh vines, just beautiful.



What really made the day exceptional was Sue, she made us feel like part of the family. It didn’t feel like a formal tasting at all, more like sharing drinks with a friend who really loves what they do. We, of course, picked out a few special wines to take home.



From the moment we arrived to when we left, we felt genuinely welcomed and looked after. Sue, you are a treasure and we personally thank you for the most excellent experience.

					We were at Jim Barry Winery on May 13 and had a fantastic time! George and Sue were such warm hosts. Sue, the cellar manager, shared the winery’s history and Clare Valley’s unique geography. George’s wine knowledge was impressive, explaining each wine clearly, especially the amazing Armagh and Florita ,we all loved them! Lunch with fresh local food was super delicious and paired perfectly with the wines. Everyone enjoyed so much! Highly recommend this lovely winery for a fun, tasty experience!

					I highly recommend spending some time here. I am the biggest fan of JB so when I accidentally stumbled across their Cellar Door boy I was was chuffed with myself. The man behind the bar was super nice and helpful. The tours weren't on during my time here but I'll definitely be coming back. I was able to buy a few wines from here and do some taste testing. Highly recommend

As we knew many of the wines, the host George was super flexible and curated a special tasting experience just for us



As we tasted, he entertained us not just with the history and philosophy but also chatted very knowledgeably about comparisons and differing styles both in Clare, wider South Australia and indeed the world ( we’re from Europe)



He was informative, relaxed, amusing and a great ambassador for Jim Barry Wines - his passion shone through



Really made it a fabulous experience

A bit steep when other well known wineries don’t have a tasting fee! However our attendant was knowledgeable and efficient. The wines were wonderful as always.

					Enjoyed a chilly, leisurely Saturday afternoon at the cellar doo with George who was friendly, informative & generous with his knowledge & tastings :-) The Assyrtiko is unique, but the Clare Valley Cabernet Malbec & Armagh Shiraz were definitely worth tasting. My partner and I went in the florita tasting experience and had one of the best experiences we’d had all trip. Not only was the wine exceptional and paired with an amazing cheese board, the host Olivia, treated us like family. We came away feeling more knowledgeable about the wines and region as well as experiencing that famous local hospitality. We cannot thank Jim Barry, and especially Olivia enough for such a special little escape. We certainly will be back.

After a slow start our host warmed up to the guests, shared fantastic stories and facts about the history, wine making and the special wines.

The wines are very good, the service better and the presentation even better.

					Whilst a smaller sized cellar door, it did not disappoint with the tasting experience. George was a wealth of knowledge and his pairing recommendations were spot on.

We were fortunate to spend time with Sam and it was amazing to hear first hand from a direct family descendent and hear about the strong future of this family brand and their dedication to the industry.

Simple cellar door layout, nothing fancy. Our tasting guide was very helpful, knowledgeable and generous with tastes of wine not on the list like aged riesling and even a vintage Armagh. It's easy to see why Clare Valley is so famous. The Armagh was amazing. I certainly agree with the notion that 2 Armaghs are better value for money than one Grange!

					Absolutely amazing experience at this cellar door. Person who was working (sorry I forgot your name) was an absolute legend. Knew all the wines, and was able to talk in detail about seperate vineyards and vintages. As a fellow industry worker, this is how customer service should be done. Bought two cases, and I’ll probably get some more. Visited probably 40-50 cellar doors across McLaren Vale as well as Barossa/Eden/Clare Valley in the last week - definitely the best experience I have had. 100/100

					Be aware the place is very elegant but small with no much view or outside sitting. If it is busy is hard because seating is small and service area is small too. besides that the wine is very good and the girls behind the counter very friendly.

					The $10 wine tasting fee was very reasonable and was deducted from purchase of wine.  Brilliant wines and a great guide.  JB continues to make seriously good wines and they are well priced too.  When in the Clare Valley, Jim Barry this is a must!

We were also extremely fortunate to meet Peter Barry, current owner and son of the original winemaker, Jim Barry. Peter gave us an extraordinary insight to the history and current activity. It was a great privilege to become his guests. The wines are outstanding and we left with bottles of Wolta Wolta (a Riesling collaboration with Germany) and Armagh, the top Shiraz. Jim Barry wines not to be missed at the Clare Valley.

					An incredible tasting experience with a mix of great wines and a snack board to go with it. Staff are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about their craft and very generous with the tastings. They have great deals at the cellar door as well. Highly highly recommended.
