We definitely recommend The Gentleman Magician!
Raphaelle & Nicolas
The show went for about an hour and a half. My son aged 16 is very interested in magic and he was gentlemanly enough to have a good chat with my son at the end of the show.
A great night out in Sydney, even for locals.
The strict restriction of food to keep costs down was disappointing. Maybe just a bowl of jatz and cube cheese - to assist with those the appetite is needed ..
For something different
For a good laugh
Something fun for date night .
Just make sure you eat and drink before you go .
Mr. Glen well looks after his guests. One example is the 19:03 start time, whilst the actual performance begins a bit after that. This allows all to arrive and nor disturb the performance with late arrivals; bonus is yummy snacks and champagne. His hostess comes around and asks some questions. There is audience participation as well.
A fun fine evening, frankly.
We received a glass of bubbly on arrival and three items of finger food.
Bruce Glen demonstrated some very basic magic tricks that were well practiced and expertly executed. A well researched patter keeps the audience engaged. Some of his explanations were a little too long leaving too great a gap between tricks. Perhaps some quick simple sleight of hand as he builds to the climax of a bigger trick ?
Why didn't his assistant get sawn in half ?
Too expensive for children, the real audience for this sort of show. My partner enjoyed it immensely.
Invited to join Bruce at the bar we instead went for pizza.
A very intimate and interactive experience. Highly recommended when you visit Sydney. Can be done multiple times as well because the stories and tricks change.
When you arive you are served champagne and hors d'oeuvres. Then you enter the room with approximately 40 others. So it is an intimate gathering. My 24 yr old neice was with me and she really loved it as well.
I highly recommend spending an evening with The Gentleman Magician!
Fantastic evening overall and would do it again.
This was our second time seeing the show and whilst I felt many of the illusions were similar or the same as the first time, there were enough new illusions for it to be worth the revisit. It had been about 5 years since we last saw the show so although I could remember some of what was happening I certainly had no idea how it was done or what was going to happen next. In fact most of the detail had “disappeared” from my memory (see what I did there?).
The evening started with sparkling wine and 3 or 4 different canapes and then we were seated for the show. The show went for about 90 minutes but I think it depends on the crowd as to whether the show goes a bit longer or shorter.
We found Bruce to be a wonderful teller of tales as he took us on a journey through early Sydney life and ‘magic’. I had a great time and even though I was determined to look closely and not get distracted I still was baffled and bamboozled by the magic that was before me. To be honest it took me back to my childhood where things were new and amazing and I had no idea how or why things worked the way they did.
My wife enjoyed the show just as much if not more that I did and we both felt it was definitely worth the cost to be taken away into the realm of magic and fun for an all too short period of time. We may even see The Gentleman Magician again one day.
With regards to the venue, The Sir Stamford at Circular Quay, well this is one of Sydneys hidden secrets as far as top hotels go. It has old world charm that takes you way back and the staff are fantastic. We especially love the Bar where we had pre and post show drinks.
My partner booked sets at the show as a surprise birthday present, preceded by dinner at the Sir Stamford. Hint hint to others if you are looking for a unique gift for that special occasion- or to make an occasion special!
The historical venue was the perfect backdrop for the show and the storytelling that was such a special part of the show.
A special shout out to Libby, the gentleman Magician's dutiful assistant.
I was fascinated the whole time and enjoyed the interactive parts of the show but b please know there was no pressure to participate.
The show appealed to all ages and it was great to see kids enthralled by the show.
Well Done Bruce and thank you for sharing your craft with us - I'm still trying to work out how you did the tricks!!!!!!
Alex
The magic was wonderful and totally entertaining.
Bruce is a brilliant showman, fantastic magic along with some amazing stories.Time just flew by. Highly recommended If you want to escape the world for a couple of hours and feel good in the process.
Was also wonderful to have a chat with Bruce at the Highlander bar afterwards.

We do a read up before attending the show, and we are impressed to hear the show is rated 2nd highest on trip advisor. And when you're second behind the Opera House in ranking, that's certainly testament to the quality of the show.

Bruce is a polished performer with a reputation that precedes him, having been selected as an Associate of the Inner Magic Circle, a club with only 1400 members worldwide. Bruce has performed around the world in events such as at the Fringe Festival and even in Edinburgh. Having been in this field for over 25 years, he has for the past 3 years has been holding his magical soiree in the Sir Stamford Hotel, Circular Quay on Friday and Saturday nights.
Sir Stamford is the perfect venue for the show, as the historic hotel, with its beautiful heritage features and hanging chandeliers is apt for a show that draws its inspiration from the ‘salons’ of 18 -19th century Europe. The show is held in a small room with an elegant setting on the third floor with its intimate seating arrangement seating anywhere between 10-45 people. The ambience is perfect for the show.
We meet at 7:03 for a show to start at 7:33 and are treated to a glass of champagne and roving canapes; dumplings, curry puffs and lemon meringue pie as we are met by assistant Catherine who ensures the guests feel welcome and comfortable in the setting. She is there throughout the show to assist Bruce.
We sit in rows, with Bruce on stage taking us through a series of magical acts that have been inspired by magician Eugene Robert-Houdin, Max Malini, Johann Hofzinser and Steve Cohen.
Bruce is softly spoken, charismatic and captivates the audience through his friendly smile and storytelling. He connects each act with stories about magicians and tales from the classics from Orson Welles, to Lewis Carrol, Mark Twain and his childhood favourite Rudyard Kipling. We love this aspect as it is a way to make this show feel like a story which has been carefully prepared, rather than a conglomeration of acts.
Bruce draws us in to the story with his magical imaginative performances and a melange of tricks using a rope, a cup and ball, wine glasses, playing cards and illusion which is surrounded in mystery and amazement. He encourages audience participation and despite the intimate setting and close seating we have no idea how these acts are possible -it is all about the illusion and imagination. We will not go into what each performance is, to allow mystery to remain and encourage you to see for yourselves.
You can even join Bruce for a drink afterwards in the Highlander bar, where you can have a chat, ask questions and learn more about the craft.
We thoroughly recommend this show as an experience that’s a little out of the box and something to provide wonderful entertainment, mystery and fun.
We left with a new appreciation of the artistry of a magician and were happy to be introduced into his world.
3 stars is not for the magic, but the presentation/experience overall versus the price.
Advertising it with Gourmet Canapes was misleading - 2 snacks (1 dried out prawn dumpling, 1 risotto ball) and a tiny Christmas-styled mince (in February? Made you think of leftovers). Nowhere to put your glasses or your spoons (you should leave them out) but on the carpet on the floor.
Room needed a repaint - paint was peeling on the ceiling and the room looked grubby and not maintained properly.
You couldn't see well from the back, one of the tricks was performed off to the left on the floor, blocked by everyone else in front.
The banter was repetitive and very tiresome after the first half an hour - it was putting me to sleep it was so repetitive and relentless. The second half of the show (the last 25 minutes) was SO much better - the relentless repetitive chatter stopped, and the tricks were the focus.
The entry music was loud, and quite miscellaneous - from grating pop music, to classical, and easy listening to weird dance music. Something to actually suit the soiree atmosphere advertised would have added some class to the whole thing and been a lot more consistent.
I wouldn't go back, and it was overpriced for a one off visit. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone either. If you ever get a chance to see James Galea - leagues ahead with the finesse and polish of the whole show and yet similar in pricing.
I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.
