A Corporate Cooking Event that Actually Brings Teams Together
Looking for a team building experience in Melbourne that is engaging, practical and genuinely enjoyable? Planning a team event shouldn’t feel like another project on your to-do list.
If you’re organising a team building day, incentive event or end-of-year celebration, you’re probably looking for something that feels engaging without being awkward, structured without being rigid and memorable without being over the top.
That’s exactly what this experience is designed to deliver.
Why Cooking Works for Corporate Teams
In a cooking location, titles disappear.
Managers chop next to interns. Finance collaborates with Marketing. Conversations happen naturally because everyone is working toward the same goal: creating something delicious together.
There’s communication. There’s coordination. There’s a little bit of pressure. And there are tons of laughter.
It’s not forced fun. It’s shared achievement.
By the time your team sits down to eat, something has shifted – people feel more connected.
Designed with Event Planners in Mind
If you’re planning an event for your team. you don’t just need a fun event.
You need:
- Clear communication
- A smooth run sheet
- Transparent pricing
- Dietary needs handled properly
- A reliable team
- No last-minute surprises
We understand that your reputation is attached to the events you organise.
From the first enquiry to the final clean-up, our team works closely with you to ensure everything runs seamlessly. You brief us on your goals, numbers and timing. We handle the rest.
What the Experience Feels Like
Your group arrives to a welcoming cooking studio in Melbourne. Aprons on. Quick introduction. A bit of energy in the room.
The chefs guide the group through a structured cooking format – sometimes collaborative, sometimes lightly competitive, depending on what suits your team dynamic.
There’s movement and hands-on activity. There’s teamwork. There’s friendly pressure. And then there’s the moment everyone gathers around the table to enjoy the results.
It feels social, not staged. Professional, but relaxed.

“Much better than expected. No elements were pre-made so we learnt how to do every step using stuff we prob already have at home. The teacher was friendly and welcoming and the venue I felt was the perfect size and setting. They were generous with ingredients for those wanting to try different things. Would recommend.”

“The menu was tasty, fresh and great variation across sushi, soup and okonomiyaki. I left feeling fully nourished and with some leftovers in tow which is always a great sign! Dylan was fantastic. He has a wonderful calm style, is always willing to answer any Q’s from the group and is incredibly knowledgeable. I love the combination of his knowledge sharing, demo cooking and helping us with our own preparation. I also love his ‘inside knowledge’ and tips on best places to find authentic ingredients. Will be coming back and have already recommended to others”

We made sushi, miso soup, okonomiyaki, and soba with tempura. Each dish was hands-on, and I loved that Dylan taught tips and techniques you wouldn’t normally get from a recipe. My favourite part was learning how to roll sushi properly — it was surprisingly beginner-friendly with his guidance.
The class also included free drinks, and I really enjoyed the wine.
Overall, it was a great experience and I’d definitely recommend Chef Dylan’s class to anyone wanting to learn Japanese cooking in a fun, relaxed, and welcoming environment.
Dillian was a great teacher who was engaging and didnt overwhelmed the class with too many directions at one time.
Even when our ramen noodle dough went a bit south he swooped in to help us out and encouraged us until we saved it.
Thanks again. Will be back!
The only constructive feedback / improvements worth to look at is that every student should have their own dedicated board when hand made their own pasta or pasties. At the moment all these are done on the cooking/dining table and we see it with possible hygiene issues. Hope to see this new change in our next classes, thanks
The only constructive feedback for improvement - All students should have dedicated board to hand make their own pasta and pastries instead of on the cooking table as it will be more hygiene
Large, well stocked kitchen, plenty of time to cook 4 different dishes.
Fun, interactive, well paced, Cooking demonstrator and assistant friendly and suportive.
very enjoyable evening
Highly recommend this cooking experience.
Had a great night learning to cook Japanese meals, the set up was fantastic and the class ran amazingly well, a lovely way to spend a friday night.
Anan was a great teacher and fun person to learn to cook from!
We'll be back for another type of cuisine soon I'm sure.
I could not fault it.
No one in our group had ever prepared dumplings the only experience we had was eating them in restaurants.
The chef was so thorough in his explanations, patient answering questions and helping novices correct technique.
We enjoyed the process and we were rewarded with a delicious lunch, washed down with our choice of wine or soft drink. Plus we were provide with containers to take home the remainder of the dumplings.
Excellent morning - thanks chef.
Anan was super generous with his time, you end up with a great amount of food to eat and take home as well
The facilities were clean and well set out. We had all the equipment needed to carry out the preparation and cooking of the meals. The drinks provided certainly helped to create a very relaxed and inclusive atmosphere. And, to finish things off, we were able to enjoy a very tasty dinner.
I can not recommend this experience highly enough. We would be more than happy to partake in another one of these courses.
Thanks again to Anan and the team at Otao.
Cheers,
Michael and Tatiana
I felt it was rushed and because I was paired up with someone that they did the majority of the cooking.
For what I was looking for, I felt like the $200 price was not worth it.
This review is in no way a reflection of the chef that demonstrated the class, but only my experience.
Throughout it all Dylan attentively makes sure we are all across the assembly and cooking steps. I thoroughly recommend this for all, from new to seasoned cooking enthusiasts!!
We would use this company again
The OTAO chopping knife is a handy souvenir I recommend you take home :-p
The preparation beforehand was excellent and we’ll be back again for sure
We wish it had been longer and our daughter's aged 14&12 loved the experience as well
Attention to detail and the help working through the courses was great.
We are confident that we can now make dumplings at home from scratch.
We bought the experience for our daughter as a birthday present we had a fantastic time and can't wait to return to Otao Kitchen with the whole family for another class.
Great fun, high energy, inclusive, an the food that resulted was delicious.
The kitchen class room was well laid out, the large screen for additional viewing was a good assist instead of having a recipe on the bench or looking at a mobile screen.
The instruction came at a good pace so there was no boredom time and yet there was no rush either. It didn't make a difference whether one was proficient in the kitchen or not it just seem to be at your pace. Thank you to Ang for his guidance and instructions.
Definitely looking to come back and try something else.
