A 7-day adventure through Kakadu National Park & Arnhem Land seeing some of the best natural sites Australia has to offer. Immerse yourself in the local culture and learn about the traditions and beliefs of the aboriginal people, as well as see historic sites and rarely seen ancient rock art paintings.
Starting in Darwin we’ll drive out to Corroboree billabong for a morning cruise. This a great opportunity to see Saltwater crocodiles in their natural habitat and observe the local bird life.
We’ll enter into the world-famous Kakadu National Park and go for a walk and a swim in two of Kakadu’s most-loved waterfalls, Jim Jim Falls and Maguk (Barramundi Gorge) and watch an unmissable Top End sunset at Ubirr rock. We’ll also visit a couple of cultural centres to learn about the local culture and the beliefs and traditions of the aboriginal people.
We’ll go on the Guluyambi Cultural Cruise on the East Alligator River, where an Aboriginal guide provides an insight into the local culture and mythology, the river’s abundant food chain, traditional uses for many plants and animals as well as bush survival skills. About midway through the tour we’ll cross the East Alligator River into Arnhem Land and make our first stop at the Injalak Arts & Crafts Centre in Oenpelli where you’ll experience men painting and pandanus women weaving baskets.
Once we reach the Cobourg Pennisula, we’ll jump on a boat and cross the water to the Victoria settlement at Port Essington for a guided tour. You’ll learn about the white settlers who once lived there as well as the Makassar people who visited the area and traded with the local aboriginals. As we make our way back camp they’ll be an opportunity to make a catch for dinner!
We’ll also explore Garig Gunak Barlu Park by land and take a visit to Smith Point Beacon, a stone structure which sits on the northern most point of mainland Northern Territory. We’ll also see the nearby wetlands and take a walk around Caiman Creek, both activities present great opportunities to see local wildlife in their natural habitants.
As we make our way back to Darwin we’ll take in the sites at Mamukala Wetlands & Bird Hide and Fogg Dam.
We look forward to meeting you and taking you on an off-road adventure!

Niall, our guide, was passionate and knowledgeable about all aspects of the Kimberleys. Through his infectious enthusiasm and humour, Niall brought the best out in everyone and helped us to experience the Kimberleys on a deeper level. A master chef on gas ring and camp oven, Niall created great meals each night, with lots of help from everyone, the ingredients always fresh and good quality. Sunsets, moon rises and stars, while sitting around a camp fire, heaven! Thankyou Nialll, thankyou Kapalga. Bring on Broome to Perth in 26 with Niall of course.
The days and night flowed beautifully and if camping under the stars is your thing I couldn’t recommended it more. If getting involved with cooking, camping, swimming and relaxing in a fully A/C bus is you then jump on board.
We’ll be looking forward to another trip with Kimberly Off Road Adventure Tours as soon as we have the opportunity.
There was so much to see and do whilst travelling in a well equipped four wheel drive truck that can access so many amazing places.
With the vehicle holding only 16 passengers the group got to know each other and is a great size to be able to enjoy other like minded peoples company.
Setting up and breaking camp was seamless as Martin, our tour guide is an "old hand" at knowing his stuff and ensures everything runs smoothly whilst making sure we get as much as possible packed into each day.
His knowledge of astrology and the lands we travelled over was very informative.
The food was plentiful and very enjoyable with our snacks always being refilled.
Each day we witnessed so many different things that added to the adventure and saw how the people of this area have looked after it for thousands of years, amazing!!
If you are a lover of unique experiences where tourists rarely go this trip is definitely a bucket list experience.
Thankyou Kapalga for another great trip.
It was a holiday that did it all! Amazing scenery from beginning to end. All landscapes were of epic proportions and made so much more magical to with the music onboard. Non-stop waterfalls, swims, scenic hikes, sunsets and insta vibes. It was the best way to see the Kimberly and experience the Gibb without any of the planning and responsibilities of navigating.
The itinerary was well planned to have locations to ourselves. Spiritual moments were felt at sunrise at the Bungles and on Lake Argyle, with a morning swim to follow. We still had the glam of dining at El Questro and scones at Ellenbrae Station with every natural attraction along the way! It was a comfortable outback experience with swags, tents and campfires. Amazing food like: Roast Lam and Veg, Chicken Pesto Pasta, Silverside, Chicken Curry, Kangaroo, Spaghetti bolognaise, Mexican Beef wraps and nachos. Always with plenty of vegetables and sides. Lunches were sandwiches, wraps or sausage sizzles and snacks/fruit were on hand. This tour is a hands-on experience coordinated and facilitated by the best in the business. Martin kept us all entertained and informed throughout the tour. He provided options for hikes and different abilities to get the most out of each location. This guy is gold!
My Fav: Swimming in a new location each day, the warm weather and epic sunrises!
Husband: Campfire food, Lake Argyle camping/cruise & helicopter at the bungles.
Thanks Adam and Lucy!!
