What’s a Boom-net?
Our purposely built, secure and safe boom-net is a unique way of experiencing the marine life around Hervey Bay. Suitable for ALL AGES it is an excellent way to stay cool and have a heap of fun with friends and family on a warm summers day. The net is a large structure that is lowered from the side of the vessel and easily accessible from the side steps. The boat cruises at a slow leisurely pace, and sometimes dolphins have been known to swim alongside.

The boat had a toilet on board and complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits that you could help yourself to. There was also more drinks and snacks that you could purchase on the boat. There's plenty of indoor seating on the main deck and seating upstairs under the shade.
The captain and deck hands on the boat were very friendly and knowledgeable giving us lots of information about the whales and their behaviour.
After the tour we had a delicious lunch at the Boat Club overlooking the marina which topped the morning tour off perfectly. Will definitely be back again in the future!
Phil, the captain, is a very lovely guy, in general the team was great! I learned so much about whales and their behavior.
4 hours passen like nothing and they are so respectful with the animals.
I can highly recommend that tour!
The water was choppy due to high winds but the boat was comfortable and the highly trained captain Phil knew which way to point the boat to avoid discomfort. I enjoyed my first trip so much I went another 2 times.
Prices were fair and whales were super close.
Highly recommended 👌
Thanks again to Captain Phil, crew Claudia, Cal and Aiden for making my holiday so memorable.
Lots of wildlife and great sunset, moon rise. Highly recommend
Tbh there wasn’t much to see apart from large stretches of ocean water. We did go close in to one sandy islet.
It was nice to receive a glass of champagne and some nibbles.
Perhaps more lively music and a chance to ashore would have enhanced the whole experience.
Up close with the whales 🐋 couldn't have asked for a better trip.
Highly recommend 👌
Inexpensive and pleasant. Served bubbly on arrival and nibbles I’m on cruise. Would do again.
The staff were lovely and the music they played was very upbeat felt like a bit of a party
I live in the Bay and would go again
Was a little breezy so the Captain decided to motor across the bay to Moon Point on K’gari - gave us a wonderful evening out of the prevailing wind alongside beautiful beaches and clear water
The crew were fantastic and it was our skipper’s very first solo, in-charge of the vessel. She did a wonderful job, made the cruise very enjoyable and returned us safely to the marina
This short scenic cruise is perfect for locals & visitors alike, and helps give another perspective of beautiful Hervey Bay
The vessel is large, stable, clean, modern and very spacious
Purchase your tickets on-line or at the service desk as you enter the Boat Club. On-line tickets are available for collection at the front desk, when you arrive for your cruise. Hold onto your tickets, as everyone receives a food & beverage discount in the bistro or restaurant, after the cruise ????
Here’s a little tip - sit out on the bow for the best views ☀️
The commentary was informative and just the right amount talking about Hervey Bay, Kgara and the whales.
Morning tea was generous and varied with mini muffins, biscuits, fruit cake or cheese dip and crakers pk. Tea, coffee, water or cordial was offered but difficult to drink due to the swell.
We saw numerous pods of whales including mother and calf, young males and pods trying to breed. Some were willing to linger near the boat , just as inquisitive as we were. But others shied away and the boat was quietly maneuvered into place so we intersected with the pods progress on their terms and we got to see tail slaps, head lunges and bubble curtains by the males trying to impress the females.
We saw two rare whales one mottled black and white and one with white fins, both stood out in the water.
We were fortunate that the wind had died down the morning we went but even then I would recommend wearing sunscreen and long sleeves as hats are difficult to wear and sun and windburn affected everyone.
The whale watching experience is both informative and humbling. We were told there was over 200 whales in the bay that day, the same total number of whales in 1980. Since banning whaling their numbers have steadily increased and now these gentle giants are hunted with cameras instead.
You will need a power bank or extra battery for your camera to be able to take all the photo opportunities you get on this adventure and we will definitely book another tour next time we are in the area.
A bonus was getting so close to the K'gari/ Fraser Island shoreline. What an incredible place.
Well worth doing.
Back to the Boat Club for lunch, for a burger and beer
The boat consist of 2 levels, upper deck with outside seating with 360 degrees views. The lower level has fronts/back of boat seating and inside with a Bar/Kiosk area with amenities.
While on the cruise you have an opportunity to seat in the BOOM-NET that lowers down to the water from the side of the boat as you slowly cruise along.
Great views on bird life, dolphins and dingos on the Fraser Island coastline. Didn’t see any whales as it was the wrong time of year but the cruise was informative about the history of Hervey Bay, Fraser Island and its surrounding areas.
Only downside was light refreshments provided was only tea and coffee.
Big thanks to captain Phil and the crew for an insightful and pleasant cruise.
You can also use the upper deck to spot dolphins ,some people chilled with a wine up there just taking it all in. The views are spectacular . Some people had their Titanic moment posing for a pic at the front of the boat.
This is the only boat with a side net that let us watch where we were going plus you can even buy a beer on board and take it into the net with you.
The captain is so knowledgeable and he and the crew are involved in protecting and recording the dolphins and whales in the area to help the conservationists .
I never knew these islands had such an amazing history. Yes Fraser or K'Gari Island is truly a magical place. This was big fun!
Well done Boat Club and thanks heaps to Capt Phil & your friendly crew.
Climate is devine and prices and quality of restaurants was excellent
The staff and the captain were very polite and professional. Will do it again definitely.
Highly recommended!!
