The beautiful and historic region of Clare Valley is almost a 2-hour drive north of Adelaide. It boasts a terrain of rolling hills and is situated in the northern Mt Lofty Ranges.
The region was settled in the late 1830s with vineyards and wine production starting in the early 1840s. With warm to hot summers and cooling afternoon breezes, this area is renowned for producing world-class Rieslings. Other well-known varieties grown in the area are Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Semillon, Grenache, Mourvedre, Tempranillo Malbec, Cabernet and Shiraz.
There is a 40km corridor between Auburn and Clare where you will find over 50 cellar doors, many of them Five-Star rated with some dating back to the first settlements. One of the very well-known is the beautiful and historic Sevenhill Cellars which is still owned and run by Jesuit Monks.
With some of South Australia’s most outstanding restaurants dotted through this region, it would be a shame not to book in and stop for lunch – Terrior Auburn, Skillogalee, Slate Restaurant, Mr Mick and Paulett’s Bush Devine are all exceptional options but don’t forget the many wonderful, genuine and welcoming country pubs, smaller cafes and bakeries.
If history is your thing, Burra has it in abundance with a ‘Heritage Tour’ that will take you back in time. Then there is Mintaro, the home of superior quality slate with the quarrying dating back as far as 1856 and still in use today. Another treasure is the National Trust-owned and managed, stunning Martindale Hall (built in 1879 – and used in the film ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’), which is well worth a visit. For the kids and young at heart, call into the Mintaro Maze and ‘lose yourself’ for a while.

Roger is a very sincere and professional person, and he made our time in Adelaide truly memorable. If we ever return, we would not hesitate to tour with him again and highly recommend Roger at Ambler Touring to anyone visiting Adelaide.
Roger shared his knowledge of the Barossa and wine, which allowed me to look at wine from a different point of view and make better selections. For me, a highlight of the tour was our visit to Corryton Burge. Wow! What a beautiful place! The wines are just as beautiful. I had a wonderful day and I couldn't wait to tell my family what fun I had.
Roger, thank you!
A great experience which will be remembered!

Roger, thank you for looking after me so well!

Our trip to the Barossa Valley was most enjoyable. We visited places I didn't know existed.
The wine tastings were well organised as was the chocolate factory. Lunch at Stockwell Hotel was great. Maggie Beers Farm was the highlight for me as well as the Last Drop Winery, home of Mothers Milk Shiraz.
Roger assisted in taking group photos and even agreed to be in some of them.
Even though I have been to the Barossa Valley many times this was still well worth doing.
Extremely informative throughout the day.
One of THE BEST tours we have had in our worldwide travels.
He was fantastic with communication in the lead-up, helping to plan our itinerary and ensuring the timing at each venue ran smoothly. Roger was punctual, professional, and very knowledgeable about the regions.
He also happily took group photos for us throughout the tour, which was very kind.
Highly recommend Roger for anyone looking for a reliable, friendly, and well-organised driver for a wine tour in SA!

to fully customise our itinerary. We chose to visit a diverse selection of wineries inbcluding Yaldara, Yalumba, Rusden and Seppeltsfield Road Distillers, allowing us to appreciate the different styles and nuances of Barossa Valley wines, as well as a stop at the Maggie Beer Farm for lunch, and a number of lookouts and points of interest in the region.
Our lovely guide Di had an expert knowledge of the local area, and made this tour an unforgettable experience. We were not only treated to an array of outstanding wines but also given insights into the region's unique history and culture. Di's attention to detail and warm, friendly demeanor made us feel well looked after, and she ensured we had a fantastic and memorable day out. She even bought us cookies!
Our tour in the Barossa Valley was an absolute delight and we would happily book with Ambler again to try some of the venues we missed. We highly recommend this experience to anyone seeking a truly immersive and memorable wine journey in one of Australia's most renowned wine regions. Thank you to Di and Roger for curating a perfect day and for looking after us!
