Testimonials:
Our guide, Virginia, gave a fascinating history of the market whilst her knowledge of the produce and the market traders was fantastic. The market itself is outstanding and the produce on sale as good, if not better, than anything we have experienced in any other country in Europe. We tasted a broad sample of different high quality foods including Chai Tea, mussels, kangaroo, fantastic Australian cheeses, locally produced cured meats and several other fantastic produce. By the end if the tour we were nicely full. A very enjoyable tour which we would recommend. Definitely a tour for people who love good locally produced food.
Our bellies and hearts were full with this ultimate foodie tour at Queen Victoria Markets. Within 10 minutes of the
tour starting we were sampling a range of beautiful mussel dishes and I was already smacking my lips over the chili coconut mussels and sipping up the sauce with bread. Then it was kangaroo steak, a few wonderful cheeses, some very tasty fruit and finally 2 hours later a famous jam donut! Lunch was not required. Our guide, Irene, was absolutely lovely and shared here knowledge and passion for the markets, the history, the people and the food. Even our teen
enjoyed it all!
My wife bought the tour for me and my sister as a Christmas present. We did the tour today with Hannah as our tour guide. Absolutely loved it. We tasted mussels, kangaroo, salamis, cheese, antipasto and fresh fruit and finished the famous American doughnuts. The sounds, smells and flavours we experienced were amazing. I’ve lived in Melbourne all my life and have been coming to the Market since childhood. It was so interesting to hear some of the stallholders tell us about their time as a stallholder. Hannah was a delightful guide for our group of 6, pointing out things we didn’t know. Thoroughly recommend the tour for locals and tourists.
Irene gave us one of the best tours in all of Melbourne! Learning about the Queen Victoria Market and its amazing traders was an exceptional experience. Add in all of the delicious food and wine we had the opportunity to try and you have a perfect day! What an absolute treat – don’t miss this if you’re in Melbourne.
We are locals and had always wanted to do the tour. Absolutely loved it. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, she knew all the vendors in the market. We got to try some interesting things that we would never usually eat and met overseas travellers and locals from down the road. Would highly recommend doing it.
The history of the market was very interesting but the food tastings were exceptional. It is highly recommended that you don’t have breakfast, because you are going to be very well fed. Seafood, kangaroo, bread, cheese, dips, chocolate, wine, fruit and finish with a sorbet. 2 hours of pure joy.
Our tour of Queen Victoria Market was certainly an ultimate foodie tour, thanks in large part, to our excellent tour guide. Because she has been a customer of the market for years and cooks with what she buys there, she brought a high level of authenticity to the experience. The tour was extremely well organized. Every stall we stopped at was expecting us; the vendors were charming and had interesting stories to tell, encouraged by our guide, who seemed to know each family’s history; the tastes were beautifully set out and we were able to cover a great deal of the market during our allotted time. The tastes were very generous and explained well by each vendor.
I went on The Ultimate Foodie Tour today and it was absolutely worth it. I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. I have been to Queen Vic Market many times and being able to go on a tour and gain deeper knowledge about the history of the Market, along with valuable insight and knowledge from the lovely traders and generous samples was well worth the price. The Tour Guides are a wealth of knowledge and incredibly friendly and helpful. Regardless of whether you are a local or an interstate/international visitor, everyone should do this tour. You honestly will not regret it!
It was a fantastic tour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable And passionate about Queen Victoria Market. The stall holders were fantastic, fun and knew their stuff. The food was sublime. Can highly recommend this tour.
This tour exceeded all of our expectations. Thanks for a most insightful couple of hours in which our guide showed her huge knowledge of the history of the area, the businesses and families in the markets and of course the wonderful food! Highly recommend (and was a terrific way to spend our wedding anniversary).

A vibrant and iconic spot — perfect for food lovers, souvenir hunters, or anyone wanting to soak in some local atmosphere. The fresh produce is top quality, the food stalls are delicious, and there’s a great mix of local crafts and quirky finds. Don’t miss it!
There was a separate meat and fish market opposite. There are stalls where you can buy food to eat and sit down.
This trip, I discovered a charming new addition, a Turkish delight stand with cute, edible pots of sweet treats. Food vans and generous seating make it easy to pause and relax with family or friends. With trolleys for hire, ample parking, public transport and a treasure trove of souvenir stands for visitors, convenience is unmatched.
Insider tip: wear comfortable walking shoes—you’ll need them to discover every corner of this vibrant market!
The traders were also interesting with info about their histories.
Don’t have a big brekky or plan on a large lunch afterwards as the sampling was delicious and plentyful.
On our tour we sampled some delicious treats including oysters, salmon, kangaroo, chicken, cheeses and antipasto. A lovely vanilla slice and donuts.
What a great way to spend our Saturday mornin
The reason I’ve given three stars, however, is because the food experience didn’t quite live up to expectations. While the historical and cultural elements were strong, the culinary side felt fairly average.
Great place to watch a crowd do their thing and have a snack at the various food outlets inside or in vans outside.
Large set ou public toilets , clean, outside.
Good for coffee, chocolate, Italian delicacy and of course the seafood. Qualities if oysters are much much better than those in most restaurants in the city i tried.
Very reasonable price too.
The outdoor dry goods are relatively less attractive compared to the fresh ingredients in the wet market.
I was really happy about the variety. Everyone let you pay by card, and there were lots of places to take a rest and enjoy some food!! Visit this place if you are a tourist
Our guide Irene, shared fascinating historical information along the way, keeping it both informative and fun. The combination of great food, interesting stories, and a lively, friendly group made it a real highlight of our weekend. Highly recommend!
Night market is crazy busy with numerous food stalls and a few bars running. There are several stores to shop at, however most are at the day market.
It is easy to get to, very large and has plenty of toilet facilities.
The day market says it’s open from 6am - 3 pm, however nothing is happening at 6 am. Food and veges are setting up at 7.30 am and it’s 9.30 am before other stalls are opening. Most people turn up from 11.30 am. There is lots of variety , though some stalls sell similar things so shop around for the best price. Feel free to negotiate.
I think it is quite an essential service for locals but it is also great tourist attraction for people would like to do shopping with reasonable pricing and explore what local is. It is quite wide of products you may find; from fresh meat to souvenirs. I took lots of photos to show you how it feels. Enjoy, and if you decide to visit, spare at least half a day 😊
Morning market was nice, lots of choices to groceries, food, coffee and pastries! Spend a good time here
They have their own paid car parking, but might be confused to drive in due to the road sign instructions bit of confuse
All products are fresh and there is a huge variety of fruit and veggies.
They also have clothes, soap, pharmaceuticals, bags, jewelry, and other items as well as food. There are shops lined up and waiting to sell local goods.
Lots of stalls selling homemade style gifts and then the other side various food vendors, with some live music playing in the middle.
Our the back had more food vendors and some great looking comfy beanbags to enjoy the last of the summer heat and food on.
A variety of souvenirs, leather goods, vegetables, meat, fresh fishes, and even spices are sold.
You need a cash rather than a credit card in here, and you can see many local people pulling carts to buy fresh meat, fruit and fishes.
It is also nice that there are many shops where you can eat various flavors.
The food hall appears to be under major renovation which should be great when finished.
Meat & Fish etc. much the same and look to be doing well.
The place was bustling with people, there was a huge range of stalls of things for sale. Some of it was cheap and touristy stuff, but there were some goodies in amongst it. The food selection was really good too.
There were some young kids playing violen and piano for the crowds, and they were amazing.
I got some of the crepes and others in my group got Asian friend rice and kebabs, all of the food was highly rated.
The whole area was well maintained, toilets and facilities were clean and tidy and the market was set up in an easy to access and walk around way.
Recommend to anyone that is new to Melbourne and is wanting to experience a cool market
