Hi Steve & thanks for the message. I'm sorry you are unhappy with our service, however I need to run through a few things with you in response. As a small family business, in a very tight financial climate - we sometimes have to make really difficult decisions, which at times means cancelling a tour – the absolute worst for us I can assure you as we work really hard to try and stay in business (not easy at times!) We tried to work with you for an alternate departure, but that didn’t work out. We tried to get additional bookings for that date as well, but that also wasn't successful. Running a business is incredibly challenging at the best of times, and balancing the wishes of our customers, alongside paying for the business and keeping a roof over our heads for our children is an unenviable task! Consideration of some of the expenses below may give you an understanding of how things are for small family businesses: - Staff wages (with your booking falling on a Sunday, the rate is close to $60/hour for a driver (this info can be pulled from fair work SA pay calculator) - fuel for the vehicles - superannuation - insurance for the vehicles - public liability insurance - booking platform monthly fee (up to $500 per month) - website fees - computer software fees ie Microsoft office, in design etc - Inspections and maintenance on the vehicles to ensure it falls within DIT guidelines - GST (on every single booking made) - of course there’s the tax as well (not forgetting the accounting fees) - office expenses (printers, inks, paper etc) - internet costs and phone costs - marketing budget to enable promotion of business including the cost of brochure dissemination (yes we need to pay $2400 for our brochures to be put in brochure stands by two different marketing companies - if you don’t pay the fee the brochures cannot be placed in hotels etc) - printing of brochures, banners and all marketing material - sponsored ads through social media - staff training ie First Aid etc - loan fees - accreditation fees with TicSA - fees for staff accreditation - fees for vehicle accreditation - all on board safety equipment and the continuous maintenance of that equipment - maintenance of vehicles (& pray the vehicles are maintained enough to remain roadworthy) - deduct 25% for bookings completed through agents such as Trip Advisor, Viator, Get Your Guide (Please note, for bookings made through an agent such as TripAdvisor, they hold the money received from bookings regardless of when they were made and we receive funds at the end of the month the booking actually operates in). -pay fees charged by suppliers for tastings and lunch. The above is just an off the top of our head outline of what is involved in operating a tour, whether it be just for one single person or a full bus. If you had a full understanding of the enormous pressure small family businesses like us are under to ensure the business is viable you may crumble – some do falter and close their business but we are working to push through what has been a quiet winter, but unfortunately can’t operate at a loss. I hope this gives you an understanding of how much is involved. We know and accept the above challenges and work hard to maintain a positive experience for all our customers - as evidenced by the numerous 5 star reviews - unfortunately we can't work magic with our booking numbers (no matter how hard we try). It's so great to hear when people have fun on our tours - and this is no exception! This tour really does have something for everyone doesn't it - & sometimes it's hard to choose your favourite, so you have to come along on another tour to decide lol!
