By the time we had finished our last wine taste we had been abandoned at our table, anyone who did want to purchase wine then chose not to.
We then had to stand around looking for somebody so we could pay for our tasting and leave.
I realize this is a very popular winery, (not that they were very busy during our visit) and I'm sure they expect visitors based on that but you should still uphold some decency and give every guest a great experience.
We had two of our party local and two interstate guests who were all left feeling mediocre about the whole ordeal. We were not rowdy, we were not rude. There was no reason why they should compromise our experience over other guests.
Prior to this we had an excellent experience at Wolf Blass winery and highly recommend their tasting.
We tasted the premium wines and it was $35 each for 4 wines (plus we could request more so we did and they were good to accommodate).
The regular shiraz and one of the premiums were quite poor, of course it’s a matter of taste, and the others were good (and expensive).
Some other wineries explain facts about the wine to us but here just poured them and told us the order to drink it.
So, some wines were nice and we ordered bottles even, but we won’t be recommending it.
The host was well informed and delivered in a very professional manner.
The tawny ports were amazing.
Shoutout to Russell… he was extremely knowledgeable in the tasting rooms and we really appreciated his expertise and friendly attitude.
It’s a very lovely estate and the grounds are stunning, bbq area and plenty of seating available. We were there on a Tuesday and it was reasonably quiet.
Tried a tasting package and the staff were really friendly.. special shout out to Russell as he absolutely knew his stuff!! What an asset
Perhaps the others might like to shadow as they didn’t seem as knowledgeable as Russel!
Absolutely worth a trip if you’re in The Barossa !
The staff were so great, customer service was excellent, they were all very knowledgeable and friendly.
We would definitely recommend this and look forward to coming back to do it again.
Thankyou so much!
The venue also has a small gin distillery and a wellness centre with handmade soaps and skincare products, which I’d love to explore more on my next visit. The scenery and buildings are beautiful, easy to get to, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming.
Highly recommend visiting I’ll definitely be going back.
Hannah took us in a tour of the vineyard and again was very knowledgeable and interesting. Would definitely recommend visiting this beautiful winery.
The original home provided a grand formal sitting room and dining room as well as a large, fully equipped kitchen.
The newer section offered a large room with dining table and comfy lounges by the fireplace, connecting to 4 bedrooms, each with ensuite
The beds were comfortable, and the living rooms were large, providing plenty of space for all of us. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Lodge for a family or group of friends - it's a very special place to stay
I highly recommend spending a good chunk of your day here.
I would definitely return here based on our experience.

Tasting for the wines was not the best. I felt as an Asian, we were all segregated to the one corner. Each new group with someone of Asian descent was automatically added to the same location. It felt a lot like racism. We were trying to justify it initially like they probably thought we would all need to speak in Chinese for the tasting but to be honest, we were speaking in English the whole time to the staff and had no difficulty communicating in it. In fact, we probably will have issues using Chinese as a medium. We just look Chinese I guess. It just didn’t sit right, especially after we noticed all Asians are delegated to our side.
We love port, but it was so interesting to note the differences between the samples of our birth years (2 years apart).
This has been the highlight of our quick Barossa getaway - but we will be back!
Despite their younger years, they were extremely knowledgeable about the wines as well as the history of the winery.
They made our tasting (which was amazing) even better.
Loved the layout of the place and it was buzzing for a Sunday afternoon.
Every dish we were served was spectacular and kept outdoing each meal each time. It was hard to choose a favourite. The option of Lobster Toast was received well by us all.
The staff were outstanding, they were constantly on the rounds of every table making sure everyone was taken care of. No one was left waiting and the kitchen was semi-open and you could see from the dining area just how busy they were as well.
My hat goes off to them for serving such fresh and delicious food to everyone throughout the restaurant at all different times.
The grounds outside are historical and beautifully kept.
Being the oldest vineyard in the region it was an honour to spend some time here.
I could not help but leave with a bottle of Muscat.
Onsite is a very tasteful shop Vasse Virgin, which is a natural olive oil producer. I spent so much time here sampling their products. The displays and decor are excellent along with the customer service. The stop here is a must when visiting the estate.
Would highly recommend for a visit, even if you don’t give the wine tasting a go!
For info, the wine tasting was free if you bought some wine. Otherwise, it was advertised at $15 per person (which gave you at least 8 wines… we only tried their 4 fortified wines so don’t quote me!). They also offer a tasting of their 100 year old port for $100!

Overall, this place is amazing for tours and stuff. If you're visiting Adelaide, make sure to visit this place. ????????
