We had the absolute best time at this winery, and it was all thanks to Kristy and the team! From the moment we arrived, Kristy made us feel incredibly welcomed with her warm and authentic hospitality. She took the time to walk us through the rich history of the site, sharing insights that made the entire experience feel personal and unforgettable.

Her knowledge of the area and the wines was impressive, and it was clear she genuinely loves what she does. We ended up staying longer than planned because we were enjoying ourselves so much — great conversation, amazing wine, and just a beautiful, relaxing atmosphere.

The wines themselves were outstanding — beautifully crafted and full of character. You can tell there’s passion behind every bottle.

We had a fantastic experience at Gibson Wines. Alex was brilliant — friendly, incredibly knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the wines. We sat by the fireplace in the Smithy, which made the whole tasting feel relaxed and intimate. The wines were excellent, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Definitely a highlight of our trip.

A hidden gem! After being recommended to come here from a different winery it didn’t disappoint! Kerry was absolutely amazing and just made our day. Plus the wine was incredible, especially beside the fire on a cold windy day.

One of the best cellar door experience ever! They offer free wine tasting and even a wine tour! My favorite wine was the Dirtman Shiraz! Amazing folks and vineyard!

Very nice winery. We spent a great time with a super friendly and very knowledgeable host. Tasting our way through white, rose and several reds. The reds were as great as expected for Barossa valley. My favorite was The Dirtman 2022 Shiraz. But, surprisingly, the Eden valley 2016 Riesling was a revelation. An aged white that was
Added bonus: we could bring our dog along and enjoy our wine while our snowflake doggy could stay at his favorite patch of grass outside :-)

An accidental find, well worthy of a visit Accidentally stumbled upon Gibson Wines driving from the Adelaide Hills to the Riverland. Wow, are we glad we did! Exceptional wines served in a professional and friendly manner by Judy. We learnt about the wine makers, The Dirtman and The Duke. We couldn't help but ship some wines home to Brisbane and now as luck would have it we are dining with The Duke tonight at the Port Office Hotel.

Such a lovely wine tasting experience here. Very personal service with great knowledge of the wines and local area. We spent over an hour here and really felt relaxed soaking up the stunning views and wines. Erica was an amazing host. We will definitely be back here the next time we are in the Barossa.

On the last of our 5 days in the Barossa valley we made a last minute decision to do one more tasting and ended up at Gibson Wines and we’re expecting more of the same when it came to tastings but it so wasn’t. Being a family owned business and having one of the family (Adam) run through it all it was not only insightful but a lot of fun and to be honest it was genuinely our favorite tasting. Definitely put this one on your list, good wine, genuine people full of history and knowledge that goes beyond the wine itself. Awesome

quaint and lovely managed to book a vip testing with Chad, we had a lovely old house w fireplace to try some excellent wines, the shiraz were all excellent but we all enjoyed the dirt man shiraz, we bought some lovely bottles to take home

Fantastic family winery. First introduction was at Novotel Barossa Valley where they were doing a free tasting. Liked it enough to go visit the next day. So many wineries, this is definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Beautiful little Cellar door. Recently renovated inside and has a lovely outdoor seating area as well. Great range of wines to chose from. Host is very friendly.

The approach to Gibson Wines is nothing but a truely Australian experience - a dusty road, surrounded by an abundance of beautiful vines, original rusty farm gates & huge gum trees that could tell a story or two & then, as you turn into Gibson there it is - Smithy Cottage in its original glory. Smithy Cottage has its own special story & its namesake wine 'The Smithy' Shiraz Cabernet is a must to add to your cellar. However, the 'Dirtman' Shiraz was what originally led us to make the trip from Melbourne to The Barossa. We regularly enjoy this hearty & moreish drop at our local wine bar 'Corked' & we were intrigued to visit its birthplace. The cellar door experience is intimate & unassuming. The staff are friendly, welcoming & knowledgeable & I highly recommend pre booking a tasting for the best experience. Spoilt for choice, you won't want to leave empty handed. Since our first visit, we have been known to drive to Adelaide for a few days, just so we can call past The Barossa & enjoy the experience of sitting outside with a bottle amongst the Gibson vines, breathing in the fresh country air & resetting from city life. Australia has so many amazing wineries to experience & support, but if you are looking for 5 star wines in an unpretentious setting, then a Gibson visit is a must. Oh & if you are a massive red lover & wanting to experience an extra special bottle, do yourself a favour & indulge in a bottle of the Bin 70. If this little gem is anything like the previous Bin 60, you definitely won't be disappointed - this elegant wine has layers of aromas to excite the palate & is the smoothest, silkiest wine I have ever experienced. Gibson Wines is definitely an old favourite of mine & I believe every bottle captures the passion of the wine maker behind it.

Beautiful wines, 5 star experiencec This is one of the highlights of our trip to the Barossa so far, a fantastic discovery. Our wine tasting with Judy was very special - I did the premium tasting and my wife did the standard tasting. The Gibson wines were stunning and I learnt that the owner Rob was the head viticulturist at Penfolds for several decades. Beautiful setting get yourself there.

Penny welcomed us and gave us the full treatment, we loved the stories about Rob Gibson and the history behind the great Dirtman and his wines.

We dropped in to try the wine at Gibson Winery. We had a beautiful lady Penny looking after us. Very knowledgeable and accommodating! We would definitely recommend dropping in to try their wines.

Our afternoon at Gibson wines was a winner. Sunshine and beautiful wines in the vineyard. Adam in the cellar door is a classic human and is a super host. We were made to feel very welcome.

My husband and I were exploring Barossa Valley and stopped here per a recommendation given in Hahndorf. It was our favorite winery by far! They take great pride in their wines and are incredibly friendly. Although it was busy they still spent quality time with each table to discuss the wines. They had typical and uniques wines to The Valley, but the Vintage Vineyard wines were exceptional and delicious. They have many options that would accommodate any wine drinkers palette. Janene and Mat made it such a pleasant experience, that we came back the next day for a bottle and sat outside overlooking the vineyard with a cheese platter we purchased at a local market. I highly recommend!

The reviews are bang on. We went on a quiet Monday and had a brilliant time. Great wine, great staff, fantastic outlook.

The best winery tour in decades, by the ‘dirtman’ winemaker himself. Set amongst picturesque scenery and historic buildings, Gibson Wines is also a treat for the eyes. We have a brilliant time and will definitely be back.

Highly recommend visiting Gibson Wines. We visited on Saturday, the weather was hot and on arrival our large group was set up under the most beautiful trees. We were then looked after by Hugh who was so knowledgeable about the wine and entertained us throughout our wine experience. The group hasn't stopped raving about the Wines and the experience. Thank you again Hugh for accommodating us and making the experience a memorable one.

The customer service that I received today was outstanding- both genuine and authentic and tailored to myself and friends. The gentleman was calm and collected despite having a full cellar door and provided a unique and enthralling experience! It’s this service that made myself and three others purchase a bottle- this is definitely because the wine was fantastic but also due to the brilliant experience. Fantastic range of wines at great prices. Their reds are all winners from your everyday drinkers to those to put away. Family owned and great service, the lady running the tasting took her time to chat to us and fill is in on all things production. An instant favourite.

Beautiful wines, professional staff This was a beautiful and quiet location. The wines were superb, and the cellar door manager was professional. She allowed us to enjoy our tasting, and was on hand to explain and describe as needed. Unlike some other cellar doors in the area, we felt that the wines were left to sell for themselves - and we had to grab a few!

My wife and I recently visited the cellar door and were really impressed. Great wines and great service, even though they were busy and under the pump at times. We’ll be back for sure.

Recommend. A quick call confirmed a visit without a booking was possible. The cellar door setting is rustic but beautiful with lots of glass to view the surroundings. An easy relaxed tasting followed with knowledgeable explanations about source vineyards, the growing season, crushing, barrel selection and aging. Great wines, check out the awards.

Saved the best till last! This was the final stop on our full day wine tour and I think it’s fair to say, we saved the best till last. What a fantastic experience at the cellar door. We received such a warm welcome and tasted some amazing wines; everything was just delicious. Well done team!

Go here for sure!! Not well known like Peter Lehmann or Yalumba but really good wine and very knowledgeable staff. Gorgeous 11 year-old wine doggo to greet you and we met some lovely locals while tasting. Highly recommend. The Grenache was our pick but paying $10 to try the old vine wines was worth it too.

Don't waste your money Some of the rudest people I've ever encountered. Couldn't believe how they talked down to my husband. Haven't been to their winery, but had the misfortune of interacting with them at the Good Food & Wine Show. My husband asked to taste some wine. He didn't know the price, not that it matters, since we're at a wine tasting show. If for whatever reason they didn't want to serve him (which, again, why???? We're at a wine tasting show!!) they could have just politely declined, but they were so rude, insinuating he couldn't afford it (based on what??) and then, when they reluctantly did allow him a taste, the staff member literally said he "wasn't worthy of his respect" and again insinuated that it was a waste of wine to serve him.

There are sooooo many excellent wineries all over Australia (we've toured many of them!). There is no need to give your money to those who can't even be bothered to treat people with basic human decency. Go literally anywhere else.

On a recent trip to the Barossa my wife and I were determined to visit some wineries that were still locally owned and operated, and we were absolutely delighted with our experience at Gibson wines. Hugh was pleasant and very easy to get along with and gave us so much history and knowledge on the winery. We did a detailed tasting, looked around at the beautiful surroundings and purchased a box full of wine and were on our way. It was not only a great experience but the wine was absolutely delicious as well. We will be back for sure. Thanks Hugh ????

Best cellar door experience ever. Hugh treated us like old friends and took the time to understand our tastes and steer us in the right direction. Wines are all great with some excellent Shiraz on offer. A must to visit when in the Barossa.

Hidden Gem Light Pass Barossa Had a very enjoyable wine tasting at Gibson’s. Hugh took us through the wines and he was lovely very knowledgeable and attentive. The wines were interesting, well balanced and reasonably priced. Found a few favourites. The ambiance was good. Would definitely recommend a visit. Only downside was the Dirtman Shiraz had sold out. Oh well reason for another visit .

What a to spot on a warm autumn day We were made extremely welcome, and led through a tasting of exceptionally good wines, in a most pleasant area, under cover beside the main tasting room. We were joined by the winery dog too, which was a nice touch. The preamble to each taste allowed us full appreciation of these splendid drops. A really nice place to visit, with heaps of character, and great product.
