Coffin Bay Oyster Farm & Bay Tour - 12 Oysters - Inc Wading Experience
Duration:
Operated By:
Cruise 16km aboard CB01 to an oyster farm surrounded by crystal clear turquoise waters.
Along the journey you’ll experience all the beauty of the pristine Coffin Bay coastline including stunning views of secluded islands, pillowy beaches & witness pods of dolphins playing in the water alongside the oyster vessel (sightings cannot be guaranteed but are highly likely).
Once we arrive you’ll instantly discover the beauty & vastness of the world famous, prime growing oyster farms & be amazed by the crystal clear waters which surround them.
Now is your opportunity to wade among the oyster beds…!
Waders are provided so you can become fully immersed in the oyster farm & discover all of its beauty up close at your own leisure.
After the tour we retreat to the boat to indulge in some freshly shucked oysters that can be accompanied by a variety of local beverages which are available to purchase.
While you sit back & relax your host, a veteran oyster farmer, will share with you the history of oyster farming including how world class oysters are produced in Coffin Bay. You’ll also learn how to shuck like a pro!
The oyster farmer also gives an update on the Angasi Reef Restoration Project, a community based initiation to restore extinct angasi oyster reefs in Coffin Bay.
Before we return to Coffin Bay we have one more stop to make. We cruise past the Coffin Bay national park to Brother’s Islands which is infamous for herds of seals. These beautiful creatures love lazing on the rocks of this remote island (sightings cannot be guaranteed but are highly likely).
From here we take our time travelling back to the Coffin Bay marina so you can soak in every element of the beautiful, remote, Coffin Bay waterways. Please contact the office for your 3rd child free.
Important Information:
Minimum Numbers – We require a minimum of 4 people for this tour to operate. At the time of your booking you will be notified whether minimum numbers have been met.
If minimum numbers have not been met you will be notified once they have. Alternatively you will be notified that minimum numbers have not been met & the tour will not be proceeding (this scenario is unlikely however if it occurs you will be issued a full refund or you will have the option to move your booking to an alternate date).
Additionally if our schedule is not showing a particular day, time or tour that you are interested in please contact us & we will try to accommodate your request.
Checkin – Tour checkin time is strictly 15 minutes prior to you tour start time at the boat at berth 5 Coffin Bay Yacht Club floating jetty. The boat departs at the tour start time so please don’t be late as we would hate for you to miss the boat. We can’t wait unfortunately.
Tides & Weather – If a high tide or poor weather conditions prevent us from wading at the oyster lease, the wading experience will take place at Kellidie Bay, a stunning secluded beach engulfed with turquoise waters in the wider prime growing oyster region.
Tour Duration – Tour duration is an approximate only. If your tour finishes a little early it is only because of less numbers on board that day or weather has allowed us to finish everything a little quicker than normal.
What to Bring – We recommend you pack sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, a towel & camera (you are definitely going to want to capture this experience!) plus bathers if you prefer to swim then wade.
The weather can also quickly turn on the water, even when fine, sunny conditions are forecast, so we always advise bringing a warm jacket & beanie.
Minors – Children must be strictly supervised by their parents at all times. Please note if you have an infant on board during busy tour times and they have not paid for a seat then they will be expected to sit on your lap if required.
We welcome children & infants on our tours. We find that most children are really curious about oysters, how they’re grown, the oyster boat & all of the exciting marine life we encounter along the way. Plus love jumping on mum & dad’s shoulders while they wade in the water…! However our skippers talk is approximately 20-30mins long which is generally not of interest to little ones. Therefore we recommend parents bring a quiet activity for this part of the tour (an iPad with head phones is ideal) or an exciting snack to keep the kids entertained during this time.
Alternatively families have the option to sit in the outside seating area during this part of the tour if they’d be more comfortable, which is an ideal location to spot an array of sea-creatures in the oyster farm.
Occasionally we have a few oyster bags to return to the water, if your booking is a special occasion & you don’t want this to happen please let us know.
Wading – In the event there are unforeseen circumstances & we cannot proceed with the wading experience you will be issued a 25% off discount code that can be used on a future booking. Please note that children under 130cm in height will not fit into our waders and will need to bring bathers etc to facilitate for them to enjoy their time in the water while others are wading.
Public Holiday Surcharge – As a family business we are very aware of the importance for our crew to enjoy family time on public holidays so a lot of the time we will be closed for tours. If we are working on public holidays please be aware that large payroll award increases have to be paid to our crew for working on these days and unfortunately we need to pass on some of this cost to you during these times. 15% surcharge on Public Holidays.
We require good hygiene practices by each tour participant. Please adhere to the following requirements:
* wash your hands often with soap and water.
* use alcohol-based hand sanitisers when you can’t us soap and water.
* avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
* maintain your 1.5m social distancing requirements.
* cover your mouth when coughing etc.

These super fresh oysters are like nothing I've ever tasted - AMAZING!! Also had the opportunity to taste locally produced Coffin Bay Gin which I would highly rate.
The boat tour was thankfully calm and the boat well appointed and comfortable for the length of tour.
It’s an experience like no other!
Did the 3 hour tour with 12 oysters
Crew were friendly
Highly recommend it to others
Very knowledgeable and great information , highly recommend, oysters were so fresh!!
We then headed back home, stopping along the way to check out some local seal colonies and dolphins.
If you are wondering if it's worth the money.....yes yes and yes! Loved every minute of this trip.
We had an amazing morning, wading in the oyster farm, eating oysters fresh shucked by Lizzie the shucking Queen, seal and dolphin watching. Absolutely loved it!!!
I would recommend highly to get on a tour with these guys when in Coffin Bay, Port Lincoln and surrounds.
I am not a huge lover of oysters so just had a taste - they were certainly fresh.
On the way back we saw sea lions, an Australian Long Nose fur seal and some very inquisitive dolphins who played around our boat for a long time.
A perfect morning out on the beautiful bay - can highly recommend.
The woman opening oysters was amazing to watch, so fast. All in, a really good value experience.
Putting on waders and walking through rows of oysters was unique, and being able to eat oysters freshly collected from the ocean will stay engraved in my memory for a very long time!
Finally, the guide’s knowledge of the local oyster farming industry made this trip very interesting and educative.
The oysters were incredibly tasty—the best I've ever had.
To top it off, we saw seal lions and dolphins. Epic day! We highly recommend this experience!
Brilliant host
Wine bird in hand rose the best ever
Highly recommend
Tour was very informative, we didn't eat the oysters, as I personnel don't like raw
oysters.
I would recommend this tour to anyone, very professional run.
Well Done Guys
On our particular tour there were quite a few tourists and the deckhand was very capable in shucking the required dozens of oysters that were ordered.
The wading experience amongst the oyster lease was great and offered us the perspective of the farmers.
A very good tour.
Last but not least the history about the region and info about the oysters is fascinating. There's a reason these oysters are sought after all over the world!
Coffin Bay oysters will definitely be my number 1 choice from now on!
The water was crystal clear.
Scott and Lisa were brilliant hosts - Scott’s info chat on the oyster industry and Coffin Bay history was fantastic- clear, concise and very informative.
The oysters tasted amazing!
Would highly recommend this experience.
